Dynamic Evolution of the Joal and Djiffère Spits under the Influence of Atlantic Ocean Activity

Changes in the coastline are characterized by accretion and erosion. The aim of this study is to contribute to a better understanding of the dynamics of the coastline and the study areas with a view to mitigating and preventing the risk of coastal erosion in order to propose a coastal occupation model with planned development policies in the future. These phenomena lead to changes in the position of the coastline. After extraction, the satellite images are compiled, then superimposed and processed using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for statistical calculation of coastline change rates. A morphosedimentary study is carried out using topography and sedimentology. The topographic method is used to calculate sediment volumes using monthly profiles. The sedimentological method is used to determine the granulometric variations in the morphological units by calculating sedimentological indices. With erosion rates of −2.13 m/yr and −2.17 m/yr respectively at Djiffère (Palmarin and Sangomar breccia) and Joal (Joal Fadhiouth and Ngazobil), the EPR index revealed a sediment deficit. Palmarin Ngallou and the island of Fadhiouth are undergoing accretion at rates of +1.43 m/yr and +1.14 m/yr respectively. From a topographical point of view, the respective accumulations of −13.74 m3/m of beach and −8.65 m3/m of beach at Djiffère and Joal respectively point to significant erosion on all the aerial beach units, while for the underwater beaches, accretion was noted with accumulations of +4.00 m3/m of beach and +5.94 m3/m at Djiffère and Joal respectively. As for the sedimentological results, the mz index shows a decrease in grain size from the high beach to the surf zone. Some points show bimodal deposits, showing the impact of the dune on beach activity, confirmed by the dispersion on the mz-sigma diagram. The three methods used in this work show that the Djiffère sector in Joal is dominated by erosion, even though accretion points can be noted.

Effects of material and Dimension on TCF,Frequency,and Q of Radial Contour mode AlN-on-Si mEmS Resonators

this paper investigates the effects of material and dimension parameters on the frequency splitting,frequency drift,and quality factor(Q)of aluminium nitride(AlN)-on-n-doped/pure silicon(Si)microelectromechanical systems(mEmS)disk resonators through analysis and *** parameters include the crystallographic orientation,dopant,substrate thickness,and *** resonators operate in the elliptical,higher order,and flexural *** simulation results show that i)the turnover points of the resonators exist at 55°C,-50°C,40°C,and-10°C for n-doped silicon with the doping concentration of 2×1019 cm-3 and the Si thickness of 3.5μm,and these points are shifted with the substrate thickness and mode variations;ii)compared with pure Si,the modal-frequency splitting for n-doped Si is higher and increases from 5%to 10%for all studied modes;iii)Q of the resonators depends on the temperature and ***,the turnover,modal-frequency splitting,and Q of the resonators depend on the thickness and material of the substrate and the *** work offers an analysis and design platform for high-performance mEmS gyroscopes as well as oscillators in terms of the temperature compensation by n-doped Si.

Application of extreme gradient boosting in predicting the viscoelastic characteristics of graphene oxide modified asphalt at medium and high temperatures

Complex modulus(G^(*))is one of the important criteria for asphalt classification according to AASHTO m320-10,and is often used to predict the linear viscoelastic behavior of asphalt *** addition,phase angle(φ)characterizes the deformation resilience of asphalt and is used to assess the ratio between the viscous and elastic *** is thus important to quickly and accurately estimate these two *** purpose of this investigation is to construct an extreme gradient boosting(XGB)model to predict G^(*)andφof graphene oxide(GO)modified asphaltat medium and high *** data sets are gathered from previously published experiments,consisting of 357 samples for G^(*)and 339 samples forφ,and the se are used to develop the XGB model using nine inputs representing theasphalt binder *** findings show that XGB is an excellent predictor of G^(*)andφof GO-modified asphalt,evaluated by the coefficient of determination R^(2)(R^(2)=0.990 and 0.9903 for G^(*)andφ,respectively)and root mean square error(RmSE=31.499 and 1.08 for G^(*)andφ,respectively).In addition,the model’s performance is compared with experimental results and five other machine learning(mL)models to highlight its *** the final step,the Shapley additive explanations(SHAP)value analysis is conducted to assess the impact of each input and the correlation between pairs of important features on asphalt’s two physical properties.

Tree species diversity and utilities in a contracting lowland hillside rainforest fragment in Central Vietnam

Background： Within the highly bio-diverse ‘Northern Vietnam Lowland Rain Forests Ecoregion＇ only small, and mostly highly modified forestlands persist within vast exotic-species plantations. The aim of this study was to elucidate vegetation patterns of a secondary hillside rainforest remnant（elevation 120–330 m, 76 ha） as an outcome of natural processes, and anthropogenic processes linked to changing forest ***： In the rainforest remnant tree species and various bio-physical parameters（relating to soils and terrain）were surveyed on forty 20 m × 20 m sized plots. The forest＇s vegetation patterns and tree diversity were analysed using dendrograms, canonical correspondence analysis, and other statistical ***： Forest tree species richness was high（172 in the survey, 94 per hectare）, including many endemic species（〉16%; some recently described）. Vegetation patterns and diversity were largely explained by topography, with colline/sub-montane species present mainly along hillside ridges, and lowland/humid-tropical species predominant on lower slopes. Scarcity of high-value timber species reflected past logging, whereas abundance of light-demanding species, and species valued for fruits, provided evidence of human-aided forest restoration and ‘enrichment＇ in terms of useful trees. Exhaustion of sought-after forest products, and decreasing appreciation of non-wood products concurred with further encroachment of exotic plantations in between 2010 and 2015. BTEX pollution caused by motorcycles in the megacity of HoChiminh

monitoring of benzene, toluene and xylenes （BTEX） was conducted along with traffic counts at 17 roadside sites in urban areas of HoChiminh. Toluene was the most abundant substance, followed by p,m-xylenes, benzene, o-xylene and ethylbenzene. The maximum observed hour-average benzene concentration was 254 μg/m3 . motorcycles contributed to 91% of the traffic fleet. High correlations among BTEX species, between BTEX concentrations and the volume of on-road motorcycles, and between inter-species ratios in air and in gasoline indicate the motorcycle-exhaust origin of BTEX species. Daily concentrations of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, p,m-xylenes and o-xylene were 56, 121, 21, 64 and 23 μg/m 3 , respectively. p,m-xylenes possess the highest ozone formation potential among the BTEX family.

Incorporation of hydroxyapatite in crosslinked gelatin/chitosan/poly(vinyl alcohol) hybrids utilizing as reinforced composite sponges, and their water absorption ability

The crosslinked gelatin/chitosan/poly(vinyl alcohol)/hydroxyapatite(GEL/CTS/PVA/HAp, GCPH) sponges were fabricated by a freeze-drying method to yield the reinforced composite sponges with proper features. The porosity value and pore size of the crosslinked GCPH sponges reached ～80% and 50–100 μm, respectively, which can be an appropriate range to allow cells to migrate into the reinforced composite sponges in the tissue engineering technology. Besides, the proper bonding presence between HAp particles and the crosslinked polymeric matrix or the crosslinked network formation between the polymers were also proved through fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), X-ray diffraction(XRD) and thermal gravimetric(TG/DTG) analysis. Owing to incorporation of HAp particles and good distribution of HAp particles inside the crosslinked polymeric matrix, their mechanical properties were improved through the determination of compression tests. Concomitantly, their water absorption ability reached effectively in both the distilled water and Na Cl solution, and their recovery also maintained well for 10 absorbing–squeezing cycles to be considered as an effective reusability for the crosslinked sponge ***, the crosslinked GCPH sponge prepared in the present study can become a potential candidate to apply especially in the biomedical/medical applications and tissue engineering technology.

Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of Orostachys japonicus

Objective: To determine the bioactive compounds of Orostachys japonicus(O. japonicus)(maxim.) A. Berger extraction by different solvents(70% ethanol or water) and to evaluate the in vitro antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. methods: Total polyphenol, flavonoid, and anthocyanin contents in O. japonicus extract were measured. Antioxidant activities were determined by DPPH, ABTS, and superoxide radical-scavenging ability assays. Anti-inflammatory activities were evaluated by nitric oxide production, tumor necrosis factor-α, and interleukin-6 expression techniques. Results: Extraction with 70% ethanol yielded the highest total polyphenol(60.03 mg/g dry weight) and flavonoid(55.50 mg/g dry weight) contents. The total anthocyanin contents in 70% ethanol and water extracts were 57.25 and 91.71 mg/g dry weight, respectively. The 70% ethanol extract also showed stronger antioxidant activity than the water extract. Antioxidant activity and reducing power increased with the increasing concentration of O. japonicus extract. O. japonicus extract at 0-400 μg/m L did not affect the growth of RAW 264.7 cells, whereas dose-dependent inhibition of nitric oxide, tumor necrosis factor-α, and interleukin-6 production was ***: O. japonicus inhibits oxidative and inflammatory reactions with potentially positive health-related effects.
