Objective: The study assessed microbial etiology and multi-drug resistant profile of the pathogens isolated from children diagnosed of acute otitis media (AOM) at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka. Method: Ear swab samples were collected aseptically from 40 children that visited the children out-patient clinic of the hospital. The samples were cultured within 20 minutes of collection and the isolates identified microbiologically. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was done by Kirby-Bauer’s disc diffusion method. Results: A total of 2025 children visited the hospital during the study period and 40 (1.98%) had clinical diagnosis of acute otitis media. Ten (25%) of the 40 samples did not yield any microbial growth. Children aged ≤one year had the highest prevalence of AOM (55%). Staphylococcus aureus (34.9%) was the predominant bacteria isolate followed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (30.2%) while Candida krusei (14%) was the predominant fungi isolate. All the bacterial isolates were resistant to ampicillin and coamoxiclav. Staphylococcus aureus isolates were marginally susceptible to gentamicin (60%) and sparfloxacin (73.3%). Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were resistant to ceftriaxone, ciprofloxacin, streptomycin, cefuroxime, erythromycin and azithromycin. Nystatin and voriconazole had comparable effect (60%) against the fungal isolates and fluconazole was ineffective. Conclusion: The incidence of multiple antibiotic resistant bacteria associated with acute otitis media in the pediatric patient was very high. Empiric treatment of the infection in the community should be discouraged. AOM preventive strategies should be targeted on the very young children to reduce the risk of recurrence.

The stationary distribution and stochastic persistence for a class of disease models:Case study of malarial

This paper presents a nonlinear family of stochastic SEIRS models for diseases such as malaria in a highly random environment with noises from the disease transmission and natural death rates,and also from the random delays of the incubation and immunity *** analytical methods and local martingale characterizations are applied to find conditions for the disease to persist near an endemic steady state,and also for the disease to remain permanently in the system over ***,the ergodic stationary distribution for the stochastic process describing the disease dynamics is defined,and the statistical characteristics of the distribution are given *** results of this study show that the disease will persist and become permanent in the system,regardless of(1)whether the noises are from the discase transmission rate and/or from the natural death rates or(2)whether the delays in the system are constant or random for individuals in the ***,it is shown that"weak"noise is associated with the existence of an endemic stationary distribution for the disease,while"strong"noise is associated with extinction of the population over *** simulation examples for Plasnodiurr vitar malaria are given.

Threshold conditions for a family of epidemic dynamic models for malaria with distributed delays in a non-random environment

A family of deterministic SEIRS epidemic dynamic models for malaria is presented. The family type is determined by a general functional response for the nonlinear incidence rate of the disease. Furthermore, the malaria models exhibit three random delays -- the incubation periods of the plasmodium inside the female mosquito and human hosts, and also the period of effective acquired natural immunity against the disease. Insights about the effects of the delays and the nonlinear incidence rate of the disease on （1） eradication and （2） persistence of malaria in the human population are obtained via analyzing and interpreting the global asymptotic stability results of the disease-free and endemic equilibrium of the system. The basic reproduction numbers and other threshold values for malaria are calculated, and superior threshold conditions for the stability of the equilibria are found. Numerical simulation results are presented.

Sepsis and the blood-brain barrier(BBB):Sepsis is a life threatening systemic inflammatory condition involving multi-organ *** World Health Organization estimates that about 30 million people are affected by sepsis every year,and at least 6 million people die from sepsis each *** of approximately 24 million sepsis survivors,it is estimated that 70%of these individuals will experience some form of long-term neurological impairment(Iwashyna et al.,2010).Thus,when combined with prevention,diagnosis,and therapeutic management strategies,a functional understanding of the mechanisms that promote sepsis-associated neurological impairment is necessary to address the clinical challenges and economic burdens faced when treating sepsis.

Attentiveness to Early Warning Drought Information:Implications for Policy Support and Climate Risk Reduction in Ghana

Successful drought planning is dependent on the generation of timely and accurate early warning *** there is little evidence to explain the extent to which crop farmers pay attention to and assimilate early warning drought information that aids in the policy formulation in support of drought risk reduction.A socioecological survey,using a structured questionnaire administered to 426 crop farming households,was carried out in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region,*** data analytic techniques used were frequency tables,relative importance index,and multinomial logistics embedded in SPSS v.20 *** results show that crop farmers predominantly rely on agricultural extension officers for early warning drought information,with an estimated 78% of them paying little to very much attention to the *** likelihood ratio Chi-square test showed that there is a significant improvement in fit as X^(2)(20)=96.792,p<*** status,average monthly income,and age were the significant predictors for crop farmers paying no attention at all to early warning drought information,while household status was the only significant factor among those paying a little *** drive to build a climate-resilient society with effective early warning centers across Ghana will receive 60% lower support from crop farmers paying no to a little attention as compared to farmers paying very much attention to early warning drought *** stakeholder engagements should be carried out to harness inclusive support from crop farmers to build a climate-resilient society in Ghana.

改善刚果外交关系的愿望激发了我们对公共外交的研究。考虑到刚果民主共和国是一个贫穷的国家,面临着各个层面的问题,本研究提出了解决外交问题的短期目标和研究的方向。因此,在研究论文主题的过程中,有必要认清阻碍刚果民主共和国改善其外交的挑战,然后清除刚果政治气候,使其有利于新的外交实践。从这个意义上说,当前外交形势的改善有赖于外交政策的更新。最后,本研究旨在说明一种新的外交:公共外交将会产生什么积极的结果。之所以需要一种新的外交手段,是因为我们观察到,不仅刚果外交官在与外国打交道时很吃力,而且他们通常也无法达成对刚果有利的交易。因此,在理解和提出公共外交在刚果的实施过程中,本研究分析了刚果的政治气候如何影响外交实践和效率,首先是与该国的政治历史,然后是与国内组织和国际外交的关系。在评估刚果外交时,值得注意的是,刚果民主共和国对待世界政治的方式已经过时,不符合当前世界的要求,因为它是建立在硬实力的基础上。不仅如此,国与国之间的相互依存使得强国和弱国相互依存;鉴于刚果民主共和国的政治弱点,在与较强国家谈判时使用硬实力是不合适的;而软实力则是弱国的最佳选择,它可以帮助弱国利用情感,赢得人心,实现国际目标。多年来,对公共外交有利的观点得到了以下事实的支持:外交事务的处理转向了较为柔和的外交方式,将注意力集中在外国公众影响其外交政策和加强国家关系的能力上;这就是对“公共外交”概念总体理解的意义所在。因此,本研究旨在证明刚果民主共和国需要将公共外交实践置于其外交技巧的核心位置,以增强其在国际区的实力。然而,这类项目的实现需要处理伴随其建立而来的要素。因此,有必要掌握公共外交的几个关键组成部分,以及支持或阻碍其有效运用的重要因素。因此,刚果公共外交分三步出现。首先,有必要研究刚果的历史,以了解政治事件的进程。过去的政治框架证明,刚果民主共和国有着悠久的政治和外交纠纷历史。撇开过去,在第二个位置,我们已经确定了对实现刚果公共外交的负面影响。事实上,腐败和部落主义等刚果民主共和国的结构性问题打破了民族凝聚力,使该国从内部分裂,并阻止该国与外国建立良好关系。第三,研究表明,刚果民主共和国的一些困难,无论是在国内还是国际层面,都与几个超级大国在刚果国家领土上的活动有关,与他们的贪婪和对维护刚果权力的意愿有关。通过公共外交将国际公众整合到刚果问题中来,确切地说是文化方面,为刚果开辟了与外国建立牢固关系的空间。公共外交的应用,特别是在刚果,确保了从良好外交关系到确保领土安全的许多积极成果。尽管刚果偏爱以国家为中心的政治管理模式,但在21世纪,非政府组织的个体和团体正在全球事务的斗争中获得权力。在这方面,鼓励不同国家公民之间的辩论和文化交流有利于建立关系,促进国家之间的相互理解,促进合作。

The growth in the sizes of business organizations and the advent of corporate governance has made investors to heavily rely on the necessity of internal and external controls for prudent management of their *** controls are indispensable in ensuring that processes operate as designed and business risk management are carried out in a bit to achieve the ultimate goal of *** such,the study sought to examine the implications of internal control systems on the performance of financial institutions in Ghana with the particular case of Access Bank Ghana in view of setting out standard procedures for internal control *** achieve the aims,primary data was gather from workers in the different branches of Access Bank Ghana in Ghana via *** data was gathered was analysed using tables,charts and test *** results revealed that Access Bank Ghana already has a good internal control mechanism back by a high level of implementation of the rules and ***,it also showed a serious problem being that of providing feedback and having the potential of jeopardizing the entire system and eventually ***,the chi-squares test showed significant relationship between internal control systems and financial performance of Access Bank Ghana at a 5% level of significance meaning that internal control systems directly affect the performance of the ***,the major recommendation was that feedback on routine internal control should be accessible to those concerned so as to reduce the risk of bribery and or organized crime between defaulters and internal controllers.

Simultaneous Voltammetric Determination of Cd^(2+), Pb^(2+), and Hg^(2+) Ions Using Aminosepiolite-Coated Glassy Carbon Electrode: Optimization of Detection Parameters via Response Surface Methodology

Adsorptive stripping voltammetry using a glassy carbon electrode modified by a film of aminosepiolite was utilized for simultaneous pre-concentration and trace detection of cadmium,lead,and mercury ions in aqueous *** modified sepiolite exploited as electrode material was obtained by grafting on its surface of[(3-(2-aminoethylamino)propyl)]trimethoxysilane(AEPTMS).The results demonstrated that the amine groups on sepiolite efficiently affected the voltammetric detection of heavy *** full factorial design matrix and response surface methodology were applied in designing experiments,to determine the optimal conditions and to evaluate their mutual *** high values of adjusted R2 obtained of the fitted model show that the experiments data were well explained by the model,which then allowed to acquire optimum parameters for the electroanalysis and detection of the analytes by differential pulse *** pH 6.5 of accumulating medium,with an electrolysis potential of-0.9 V and in the concentration range of 10^(−8) M to 10^(−9) M,calibration plots were *** limits of detection(3Sd/m)were 8.689×10^(−10) M,8.197×10^(−10) M,and 8.099×10^(−10) M,respectively,for Cd^(2+),Pb^(2+),and Hg^(2+)*** interference effect of several cations and anions on the response of the analytes was also evaluated,and finally,the sensor was applied to the simultaneous detection of metal ions in tap water with satisfactory recovery rates.
