Articular cartilage has a limited capacity to self-heal once ***-specific stem cells are a solution for cartilage regeneration;however,ex vivo expansion resulting in cell senescence remains a challenge as a large quantity of high-quality tissue-specific stem cells are needed for cartilage *** previous report demonstrated that decellularized extracellular matrix(dECM)deposited by human synovium-derived stem cells(SDSCs),adipose-derived stem cells(ADSCs),urine-derived stem cells(UDSCs),or dermal fibroblasts(DFs)provided an ex vivo solution to rejuvenate human SDSCs in proliferation and chondrogenic potential,particularly for dECM deposited by *** make the cell-derived dECM(C-dECM)approach applicable clinically,in this study,we evaluated ex vivo rejuvenation of rabbit infrapatellar fat pad-derived stem cells(IPFSCs),an easily accessible alternative for SDSCs,by the abovementioned C-dECMs,in vivo application for functional cartilage repair in a rabbit osteochondral defect model,and potential cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying this *** found that C-dECM rejuvenation promoted rabbit IPFSCs’cartilage engineering and functional regeneration in both ex vivo and in vivo models,particularly for the dECM deposited by UDSCs,which was further confirmed by proteomics ***-Seq analysis indicated that both mesenchymal-epithelial transition(MET)and inflammation-mediated macrophage activation and polarization are potentially involved in the C-dECM-mediated promotion of IPFSCs’chondrogenic capacity,which needs further investigation.

Electrical energy is essential for modern society to sustain economic *** soaring demand for the electrical energy,together with an awareness of the environmental impact of fossil fuels,has been driving a shift towards the utilization of solar ***,traditional solar energy solutions often require extensive spaces for a panel installation,limiting their practicality in a dense urban *** overcome the spatial constraint,researchers have developed transparent photovoltaics(TPV),enabling windows and facades in vehicles and buildings to generate electric *** TPV advancements are focused on improving both transparency and power output to rival commercially available silicon solar *** this review,we first briefly introduce wavelength-and non-wavelengthselective strategies to achieve *** of merit and theoretical limits of TPVs are discussed to comprehensively understand the status of current TPV *** we highlight recent progress in different types of TPVs,with a particular focus on solution-processed thin-film photovoltaics(PVs),including colloidal quantum dot PVs,metal halide perovskite PVs and organic *** applications of TPVs are also reviewed,with emphasis on agrivoltaics,smart windows and ***,current challenges and future opportunities in TPV research are pointed out.

The reliable application of field deployable fluorescent dissolved organic matter(fDOM)probes is hindered by several influencing factors which need to be *** manuscript describes the corrections of temperature,pH,turbidity and inner filter effect on fluorescence signal of a commercial fDOM probe(fDOMs).For this,Australian waters with wide ranging qualities were selected,*** organic carbon(DOC)ranging from∼1 to∼30 mg/L,specific UV absorbance at 254 nm from∼1 to∼6 L/m/mg and turbidity from∼1 to∼350 ***-based model calibration experiments(MCEs)were performed.A model template was developed and used for the development of the correction *** each factor,data generated through MCEs were used to determine model coefficient(α)values by fitting the generated model to the experimental *** discrete factor models were generated by determination of a factor-specificα***αvalues derived for each water of the MCEs subset were consistent for each factor *** indicated generic nature of the fourαvalues across wide-ranging water *** correlation between fDOMs and DOC were achieved after applying the four-factor compensation models to new data(r,0.96,p<0.05).Also,average biases(and%)between DOC predicted through fDOMs and actual DOC were decreased by applying the four-factor compensationmodel(from3.54(60.9%)to 1.28(16.7%)mg/L DOC).These correction models were incorporated into a Mi-crosoft EXCEL-based software termed EXOf-Correct for ready-to-use applications.

Statistical variability and fragility assessment of ballistic perforation of steel plates for 7.62 mm AP ammunition

The paper describes field test results of 7.62×51 mm M61 AP(armour piercing) ammunition fired into mild steel targets at an outdoor *** targets varied from 10 mm to 32 mm in *** tests recorded penetration depth,probability of perforation(i.e.,complete penetration),muzzle and impact velocities,bullet mass,and plate yield strength and *** measured penetration depth exhibited a variability of approximately±12%.The paper then compared ballistic test results with predictive models of steel penetration depth and thickness to prevent *** parameters were derived for muzzle and impact velocity,bullet mass,plate thickness,plate hardness,and model error.A Monte-Carlo probabilistic analysis was then developed to estimate the probability of plate perforation of 7.62 mm M61 AP ammunition for a range of impact velocities,and for mild steels,and High Hardness Armour(HHA) *** perforation fragility analysis considered the random variability of impact velocity,bullet mass,plate thickness,plate hardness,and model *** a probabilistic analysis allows for reliability-based design,where,for example,the plate thickness with 95% reliability(*** 1 in 20 shots will penetrate the wall) can be estimated knowing the probabilistic distribution of ***,it was found that the plate thickness to ensure a low 5% probability of perforation needs to be 11-15% thicker than required to have a 50/50 chance of perforation for mild steel *** would need to be 20-30% thicker if probability of perforation is reduced to zero.

Risk Assessment and Optimisation of Blast Mitigation Strategies for Design and Strengthening of Built Infrastructure

A probabilistic risk assessment procedure is developed which can predict risks of explosive blast damage to built infrastructure, and when combined with life-cycle cost analysis, the procedure can be used to optimise blast mitigation strategies. The paper focuses on window glazing since this is a load-capacity system which, when subjected to blast loading, has caused significant damage and injury to building occupants. Structural reliability techniques are used to derive blast reliability curves for annealed and toughened glazing subjected to explosive blast for a variety of threat scenarios. The probabilistic analyses include the uncertainties associated with blast modelling, glazing response and glazing failure criteria. Damage risks are calculated for an individual window and for windows in the facade of a multi-storey commercial building. The paper shows an illustrative example of how this information, when combined with risk-based decision-making criteria, can be used to optimise blast mitigation strategies.

Crop production in semiarid regions is always challenging because of the high variability of amount and distribution of *** regions become more important each year, however, because the rapidly increasing and more prosperous world population seeks greater consumption of animal products（meat, milk and eggs） that requires additional grain to that consumed *** dry areas of the developing world where approximately 40% of the world population lives comprise about 40% of the earth＇s land *** production, particularly cereal grains, must increase in these areas to meet these growing *** yield of cereal crops is a function of the amount of water used for evapotranspiration（ET）, the portion of ET used for transpiration（T）, the units of water as T to produce 1 unit of biomass, and the harvest index（HI）.The most important factor is the amount of evapotranspiration not only because it is closely proportional to grain yield, but because it tends to also make the other factors more ***, even small increases in ET can be *** for manipulating soil and plant conditions for increasing ET, and how additional ET affects the other factors, are discussed for water deficient *** use of crop residues as mulch is highly beneficial but often insufficient in dryland regions or is required for animal feed and *** mulch, mainly restricted to China, has significantly increased grain yields in dryland areas by decreasing evaporation from the soil surface.

Risk Acceptability and Cost-Effectiveness of Protective Measures Against Terrorist Threats to Built Infrastructure Considering Multiple Threat Scenarios

Decisions are often needed about the need and/or extent of protective measures against explosive blast loads on built infrastructure. A decision support analysis considers fatality risks and cost-effectiveness of protective measures expressed in terms of expected cost spent on risk reduction per life saved for terrorist threats to infrastructure. The analysis is applicable to any item of infrastructure, but in this paper is applied to casualties arising from building facade glazing damage. Risks may be compared with risk acceptance criteria in the form of quantitative safety goals. The risk acceptability and cost-effectiveness of protective measures includes cost of the protective measures, attack probability,reduction in risk due to protective measures,probability of fatality conditional on successful terrorist attack and number of exposed individuals.
