Prevalence and Clinical Characteristics of Chronic Constipation in Senegalese Children

Introduction: Constipation is the infrequent emission of hard stools. It is common, most often of functional origin, with a prevalence ranging from 0.7% to 29.6%. The aim of our study was to investigate the prevalence of constipation in children undergoing paediatric gastroenterology. Methodology: This was a bi-centric retrospective study carried out at the Albert Royer Children’s Hospital and the dalal Jamm Hospital Pediatrics department. Children followed in the pediatric gastroenterology consultation during the period from January 1, 2013 to February 29, 2020 were included. Results: A total of 337 children (205 boys;60.83%) were included, representing a prevalence of 25%. The median age was 3 years 6 months. The 13 - 24 months age group was the most frequent (27.6%). Rare stools were the main reason for consultation (92.8%). Rare stools were noted in 92.88% of cases. Bristol types 1 and 2 accounted for 6.53% and 54.60% respectively. The main associated signs were abdominal pain (29.4%), followed by abdominal bloating (20.96%). Abdominal pain was functional in 73.58% of cases. Under treatment, 90.19% of children had a favorable outcome. Conclusion: Constipation is common in Senegalese children with a prevalence close to that reported in Western countries. In most case, it is functional with good prognostic.

Superconductor samples of type (CoFe2O4)xGdBa2Cu3O7-δ (0≤x≤0.1) were synthesized by the conventional solid-state reaction technique, whereas nanosized CoFe2O4 was prepared by co-precipitation method with grain size of about 8.5 nm. The elemental content of the prepared samples was determined using particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE). The temperature dependence of real (χ') and imaginary (χʺ) components of AC magnetic susceptibility (ACMS) at different magnetic field amplitude (3–15 Oe) was investigated. The analysis of the temperature dependence of ACMS was performed using Bean critical state model. The values of the critical current density J c at T > T p (T p is the inter-granular loss peak temperature) were calculated as a function of magnetic field and nanosized CoFe2O4 content. It was found that the low nanosized CoFe2O4 addition content (x = 0.01) improves the critical current density J c of Gd-123 superconducting phase. The observed variation of J c with temperature indicated that the weak links are changed from superconductor–normal metal–superconductor (SnS) for free sample to superconductor–insulator–superconductor (SIS) type of junctions for samples added with nanosized CoFe2O4 of x > 0.01. We also discussed the experimental results in the framework of the critical state model to estimate the effective volume fraction of the grains f g using Cole–Cole plots.

A mathematical model of quantum dot intermediate band solar cells （QdIBSCs） is investigated using two intermediate bands （IBs）. These two IBs arise from the quantum dot （Qd） semiconductor material within the bandgap energy. Some parameters such as the width of the Qd （WQd） and the barrier thickness or the inter-dot distances between the Qds （BT） are studied to show their influence on the performance of the QdIBSC. The timeindependent Schr6dinger equation, which is solved using the Kronig-Penney model, is used to determine the posi- tion and bandwidth energies of the two IBs. In our proposed model, the cubic shape of the Qds from InAs0.9n0.1 and the barrier or host semiconductor material from GaAs0.98Sb0.02 are utilized. It is shown from the results obtained that changing the parameters WQd and Bx has more influence on the bandwidth energy for the first IB, A 1, than in the case of the second IB, A2. The optimum power conversion efficiencies （PCEs） of the QdIBSCs with two IBs for the model under study are 58.01% and 73.55% at 1 sun and maximum solar concentration, respectively. One can observe that, in the case of the two IBs, an improvement of the PCE is achieved.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of potassium fertilization source and dose on productivity and quality parameters of strawberry. The trial was conducted in 2016-2017 at the experimental greenhouse of hassan II Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary Sciences in Rabat. Strawberry plants of the cultivar “San Andreas” were planted on november 6th in 12 liter pots equipped with a gravity fertigation system. The experimental design was a split-plot with eight treatment combinations of two potassium fertilizer sources: 1) Potassium Sulphate for the whole growing cycle (PS/PS);2) Potassium nitrate during the vegetative period and Potassium Sulfate during the fruit production period (Pn/PS) and four potassium fertilizer doses: 100, 200, 300 and 400 kg/ha of K2O replicated thrice. Potassium sulfate source was superior to potassium nitrate on the improvement of productivity and quality parameters of strawberry fruit. Potassium sulphate improved the number of flowers by 16%, fruit production by 21%, sugar content by 3%, and titrable acidity content by 0.5 g/L. The highest yield was recorded in plants receiving 300 kg/ha K2O as potassium sulphate. The 300 kg K2O/ha dose gave also superior results regarding quality parameters of strawberry fruit. This optimum potassium dose enhanced number of flowers by 35%, fruits produced by 44%, sugar content by 25% and titrable acidity content by 0.9 g/L.

We present a patient with a primary intraosseous meningioma of the calvarium that recurred three years after initial resection and reconstruction with a free anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap. The patient re-presented with progressive swelling in the same area. Imaging confirmed aggressive tumour recurrence with both intra- and extra-cranial diseases and also extension to the ipsilateral orbit. The original anterolateral free flap was raised on anterior pedicle and further debulking of the tumour was performed. Histology confirmed widely infiltrative atypical meningioma (WHO grade II). This case highlights the benefit of using a fasciocutaneous free flap for reconstruction given the potential for tumour recurrence.

Effects of bimetallic catalysts on synthesis of nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes as nanoscale energetic materials

Well aligned nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes （Cnx-nTs）, as energetic materials, are synthesized on a silicon substrate by aerosol-assisted chemical vapor deposition, Tungsten （W） and molybdenum （Mo） metals are respectively introduced to combine with iron （Fe） to act as a bimetallic co-catalyst layer. Cor- relations between the composition and shape of the co-catalyst and morphology, size, growth rate and nitrogen doping amount of the synthesized Cnx-nTs are investigated by secondary and backscattered electron imaging in a field emission scanning electron microscope （FESEM） and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer （XPS）. Compared to pure iron catalyst, W-Fe co-catalyst can result in lower growth rate, larger diameter and wider size distribution of the Cnx-nTs; while incorporation of molybdenum into the iron catalyst layer can reduce the diameter and size distribution of the nanotubes. Compared to the sole iron catalyst, Fe-W catalyst impedes nitrogen doping while Fe-Mo catalyst promotes the incorporation of nitrogen into the nanotubes. The present work indicates that Cnx-nTs with modulated size, growth rate and nitrogen doping concentration are expected to be synthesized by tuning the size and composition of co-catalysts, which may find great potential in producing Cnx-nTs with controlled structure and properties,

Photopic negative response in diagnosis of glaucoma:an experimental study in glaucomatous rabbit model

AIM: To determine whether the photopic negative response(Ph nR) elicited by transient white flash on white background is characterizing for glaucoma model in ***: Glaucoma was induced in twelve rabbits by subconjunctival injection of 0.05 m L of betamethasone in right eyes(each 1 m L contain betamethasone dipropionate5 mg and betamethasone sodium phosphate 2 mg).The intraocular pressure(IOP), electroretinogram(ERG) and visual evoked potential(VEP) were measured successively prior and on the 3, 7d, two weeks and four weeks postglaucoma induction. After four weeks, the animals were sacrificed and the globes were histopathologically ***: The IOP increased significantly after one week(P =0.0001), then it gradually returned to the control level. In ERG examination, the means of a and b wave amplitude and latency were not affected *** nR amplitude decreased significantly within one week(P =0.0001), but its latency was not affected significantly(P =0.132). The means of VEP latency and amplitude were significantly affected after two weeks and four weeks of glaucoma induction(P =0.0001 and 0.02,respectively). The histopathologic examination of the globes showed reduced number of cells in the retinal ganglion cell layer with multiple vacuoles in the retinal nerve fibre *** was significant positive correlation between ganglion cell layer cells and Ph nR amplitude( r =0.8, P =0.002).COnCLUSIOn: The rise in IOP resulted in irreversible changes or incomplete recovery of VEP and Ph nR amplitude. Both Ph nR and VEP represented good additional tools in early diagnosis of glaucoma.
