Epidemiological, Clinical, and Evolutionary Profile of Children Admitted to the Pediatric Emergency Department of the Maroua Regional hospital, Cameroon

Introduction: Pediatric emergencies in developing countries are associated with high morbidity and mortality. The Maroua Regional hospital (MRh) is one of the referral centers for pediatric emergencies in the Far north region of Cameroon. Pediatric emergencies are frequent in Maroua and are associated with significant mortality. The aim of our study is to determine the epidemiological, clinical, and evolutionary profile of children admitted to the pediatric emergency department of the hRM. Methods: We conducted an observational, descriptive, and retrospective study over a period from April 10, 2023 to April 10, 2024, focusing on the records of patients admitted to the pediatric emergency department of the MRh. The variables studied included epidemiological, clinical, and evolutionary characteristics. Data analysis was performed using CSPro version 8.01 and SPSS version 27.0. Results: We included 1027 patients;the sex ratio was 1.2 infants under 2 years represented 54.33%. The main reasons for consultation were fever (62.22%) and seizures (30.18%). The most frequently prescribed additional test was the Complete Blood Count (CBC), performed in 97.37% of cases. The most common pathologies were severe malaria (45.18%), broncho-pulmonary infections (15.48%), and bacterial meningitis (12.26%). At admission, 32.9% were transfused. There were 68 deaths, representing 6.67%, and 86% of the deaths occurred within 24 hours of admission. The leading cause of death was severe malaria, with 28 (41.17%) cases. Conclusion: Febrile illnesses were the main reason for consultation, and mortality was linked to severe malaria. Therefore, in addition to the other preventive methods already used against malaria, it is recommended to consider the use of the malaria vaccine.

Objective: Chronic end-stage renal failure is a major public health problem in developing countries and is poorly documented. The objective of this study was to describe the epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic, and evolutionary aspects of patients admitted for end-stage renal failure to the Department of Nephrology at the University hospital of Brazzaville. Patients and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study collecting prospective data that took place over 10 months. We included 128 patients who were exhaustively identified. Sociodemographic, clinical, therapeutic and developmental data were collected using a standardized and pretested pre-established survey form. The EPI info software enabled the analysis and processing of the data. Results: We reported a male predominance with a sex ratio of 2.5. The median age was 50 years. The first cause found was diabetes (55%) followed by hypertension (46%). The majority of patients had a dialysis emergency and half could not be dialyzed for financial reasons. Conclusion: Our results highlighted that certain epidemiological parameters of end-stage renal failure are constantly changing, such as frequency, while others remain static, including the main etiologies, gender, and age. however, mortality continues to increase and deserves more attention.

nuMap: A Web Platform for Accurate Prediction of Nucleosome Positioning

Nucleosome positioning is critical for gene expression and of major biological interest. The high cost of experimentally mapping nucleosomal arrangement signifies the need for computational approaches to predict nucleosome positions at high resolution. here, we present a web-based application to fulfill this need by implementing two models, YR and W/S schemes, for the translational and rotational positioning of nucleosomes, respectively. Our methods are based on sequence-dependent anisotropic bending that dictates how DNA is wrapped around a histone octamer. This application allows users to specify a number of options such as schemes and param- eters for threading calculation and provides multiple layout formats. The nuMap is implemented in Java/Perl/MySQl and is freely available for public use at http：//***. lDh sealing for PEO coated friction stir welded AZ31/AA5754 materials

The need to combine various metals in light-weight constructions requires the development of coatings that prevent galvanic corrosion. layered double hydroxides(lDhs) can be an exam.le of such coatings, which were previously successfully obtained in situ on individual materials. In addition, the possibility of lDh growth(including lDh growth in the presence of chelating agents) on the surface of plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO)-coated metals was previously shown. This PEO + lDh combination could improve both corrosion and mechanical characteristics of the system. The possibility of lDhs formation in situ on the surface of PEO-coated friction stir welded(FSW) magnesium-aluminum materials(AZ31/AA5754 system was selected as a model one) was demonstrated in the presence of 1,3-diamino-2-hydroxypropane-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid(DhPTA) as a chelating agent, which was selected based on analysis of respective metal-ligand compounds stability. lDhs growth was achieved under ambient pressure without addition of carbonates in the electrolyte. The effectiveness of the resulting coating is shown both for corrosion resistance and hardness.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAhs),PANhs,and peptoids dust spectral calculations from the interstellar medium(ISM)are important for dust observations and *** goal is to calculate the radiation spectrum of spherical PAhs dust clusters in a vacuum containing ionized and applied in the presence of an electric *** propose a new simple computational model to calculate the size of three-dimensional spherical dust clusters formed by different initial dust *** the Vienna Ab-initio Simulation Package code,the density functional theory with the generalized approximation was used to calculate the electron density gradient and obtain the radiation spectrum of *** the radius of spherical dust clusters is~[0.009-0.042]μm,the dust radiation spectrum agrees well with the Z=0.02 mMMP stellar spectra,and the PAhs radiation spectrum of NGC 4676 at wavelengths of(0-5]μm and(5-10]μm,*** the ionized state,the N-PAh,C_(10)h_(9)N,2(C_(4)h_(4))^(1+),and peptoids 4(ChON),(C_(8)h_(10)N_(2)O_(5))^(1+)dust clusters at 3.3μm,while the 2(C_(22)h_(21)N_(3)O_(2))^(1+),4(ChON)dust clusters at 5.2μm have obvious *** is a characteristic of part of PAhs and peptoids clusters radiation at the nearinfrared wavelength of 2μ***,especially after applying an electric field to the dust,the emission spectrum of the dust increases significantly in the radiation wavelength range[3-10]μ***,the dust clusters of PAhs,PANhs,and peptoids of the radius size~[0.009-0.042]μm are likely to exist in the ISM.

We report the detection of aγ-ray bubble spanning at least 100deg2 in ultra-high energy(UhE)up to a few PeV in the direction of the star-forming region Cygnus X,implying the presence super PeVatron(s)accelerating protons to at least 10 PeV.A log-parabola form with the photon indexΓ(E)=(2.71±0.02)+(0.11±0.02)×log10(E/10 TeV)is found fitting the gamma-ray energy spectrum of the bubble *** sources,“hot spots”correlated with very massive molecular clouds,and a quasi-spherical amorphousγ-ray emitter with a sharp central brightening are observed in the *** the core of~0.5°,spatially associating with a region containing massive OB association(Cygnus OB2)and a microquasar(Cygnus X-3),as well as previously reported multi-TeV sources,an enhanced concentration of UhEγ-rays is observed with 2 photons at energies above 1 *** general feature of the bubble,the morphology,and the energy spectrum,are reasonably reproduced by the assumption of a particle accelerator in the core,continuously injecting protons into the ambient medium.

A statistical approach to enhance the productivity of Streptomyces baarensis Mh-133 for bioactive compounds

The goal of this study was to use statistical optimization to change the nutritional and environmental conditions so that Streptomyces baarensis Mh-133 could make more active *** trials were used to screen for critical variables influencing productivity using the Placket-Burman Design *** Mh-133 is significantly influenced by elicitation,yeast extract,inoculum size,and incubation period in terms of antibacterial activity.A total of 27 experimental trials with various combinations of these factors were used to carry out the response surface technique using the Box-Behnken *** analyses revealed that the model was highly significant(ph a lack-of-fit of 0.212 and a coefficient determination(R2)of ***,the model predicted that the response as inhibition zone diameter would reach a value of 27 *** optimal conditions,*** Mh-133 produced 18.0 g of crude extract to each 35l and was purified with column *** active fraction exhibiting antibacterial activity was characterized using spectroscopic *** MIC and MBC values varied between 37.5 and 300μg/ml and 75 and 300μg/ml,*** conclusion,the biostatistical optimization of the active fraction critical variables,including environmental and nutritional conditions,enhances the production of bioactive molecules by Streptomyces species.

The demand for particleboard is increasing along with economic and population ***,two major barriers to the manufacture of particleboard are a shortage of raw materials(woodchips)and the emission of formaldehyde from conventional *** by-products such as corn stalks contain an abundance of renewable lignocellulosic *** study evaluates the effect of citric acid as a natural adhesive and fire retardant addition on the physical,mechanical,and fire retardancy properties of particleboards fabricated from corn stalks.A cost-effective and inorganic salt,calcium carbonate,was tested to enhance the fire *** dihydrogen phosphate was also considered as a comparative *** with the addition of calcium carbonate was pretreated with sodium *** particleboards were pressed for 10 min at 200℃.Japanese Industrial Standard JIS A 5908:2022 was used as the benchmark for the physical and mechanical *** retardancy was dynamically tested by simulating a Bushfire Attack level of 19 kW/m^(2).The particleboard with 25 wt%citric acid had superior mechanical properties and complied with the JIS A 5908 standard for Type 13 base par*** with the addition of calcium carbonate(5%and 10%)showed significantly delayed pyrolysis time.

Combinations of metal and lanthanide oxides have been done through casted films for potential medical applications. In this regard, samarium(Ⅲ) oxide/chromium(Ⅲ) oxide/graphene oxide(GO)/polycaprolactone(PCl) based films nano-composites(NCs) were fabricated, pointing their utilization as a biological scaffold for wound dressing purposes. Also, samarium(Ⅲ) oxide and chromium(Ⅲ) oxide have been merged as promising optical constituents due to their unique optical behavior. The structural and compositional examination of the studied NCs was executed by X-ray diffraction(XRD), Raman, and field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM). The Sm_(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCl NC exhibits a surface with a lower roughness degree owing to the presence of GO. Cr_(2)O_(3)shows size reduction upon GO insertion to reach 1.2 μm as the average grain size, whilst Sm_(2)O_(3)records an average grain size of less than 1 μm. As well, the polymeric nano-compositions exhibit variation in contact angle values that hit 29.76°± 3.52°for Sm_(2)O_(3)/PCl, and 48.62°± 1.37°for Sm_(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCl as the second lowest contact angle. The optical behavior contributes to absorption edge relocation along the x-axis from 1.7 eV for pure PCl, to 2.65 eV for Sm_(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCl. Regarding biological responses, the cell exposed to 2.5 μg/m l of Sm_(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCl shows cell viability of 119.31%, while 5 μg/m l hits 99.6%. Additionally, the resulting cell attachment micrographs show layers of fibroblast tissue, besides the proliferation and growth of cultivated cells. Thus, the Sm_(2)O_(3)/Cr_(2)O_(3)/GO/PCl scaffold provides 3D proliferation of fibroblast cells endorsing the wound healing process.
