[Determination of eight phthalate metabolites in urine of pregnant women and evaluation of neonatal birth outcomes based on solid-phase extraction-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry]

Phthalates (PAEs) are endocrine-disrupting chemicals that are widely present in everyday life and enter the human body through various pathways. The release of PAEs into the environment through pathways that include leaching, evaporation, abrasion, and the use of personal care products exposes humans to PAEs via ingestion, inhalation, and dermal absorption. Pregnant women, as a particularly vulnerable population, risk adverse newborn growth and development when exposed to PAEs. While the concentrations of PAEs in urine reflect recent exposure levels in humans, urinary levels of phthalate metabolites (mPAEs) are commonly used as biomarkers of internal exposure owing to the relatively short biological half-lives of PAEs (mance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (SPE-HPLC-mS/mS) method for simultaneously detecting eight mPAEs in the urine of pregnant women. Urine samples were enzymatically hydrolyzed with -glucosidase and then purified using the Bond Elut Plexa SPE column, with subsequent elution, concentration, and redissolved performed prior to HPLC-mS/mS. Separation was achieved using an Agilent Eclipse Plus C18 column (100 mm×3 mm, 3.5 μm), with gradient elution performed using 0.1% acetic acid aqueous solution and 0.1% acetic acid acetonitrile as mobile phases. multiple reaction monitoring (mRm) mode was used for detection, with quantification performed using the internal-standard method. Good linearities were obtained in the range of 0.1-200 ng/mL for the eight mPAEs, with limits of detection (LODs) and quantification (LOQs) of 0.015-0.048 and 0.050-0.160 ng/mL, respectively. The eight mPAEs exhibited recoveries of 80.2%-99.7% at three spiked levels (1, 10, and 50 ng/mL). This method was subsequently used to analyze the eight mPAEs levels in urine samples of 497 pregnant women from the Ezhou maternity and Child Health Care Hospital. Rethinking the architecture design of data center networks

In the rising tide of the Internet of things, more and more things in the world are connected to the Internet. Recently, data have kept growing at a rate more than four times of that expected in moore＇s law. This explosion of data comes from various sources such as mobile phones, video cameras and sensor networks, which often present multidi- mensional characteristics. The huge amount of data brings many challenges on the management, transportation, and pro- cessing IT infrastructures. To address these challenges, the state-of-art large scale data center networks have begun to provide cloud services that are increasingly prevalent. How- ever, how to build a good data center remains an open chal- lenge. Concurrently, the architecture design, which signifi- cantly affects the total performance, is of great research inter- est. This paper surveys advances in data center network de- sign. In this paper we first introduce the upcoming trends in the data center industry. Then we review some popular design principles for today＇s data center network architectures. In the third part, we present some up-to-date data center frame- works and make a comprehensive comparison of them. Dur- ing the comparison, we observe that there is no so-called op- timal data center and the design should be different referring to the data placement, replication, processing, and query pro- cessing. After that, several existing challenges and limitations are discussed. According to these observations, we point out some possible future research directions.

Ordered proposition fusion based on consistency and uncertainty measurements

The fusion of ordered propositions is an important and widespread problem in artificial intelligence,but existing fusion methods have difficulty handling the fusion of ordered propositions. In this paper, we propose a solution based on consistency and uncertainty measurements. The main contributions of this paper are as follows. First, we propose the concept of convexity degree, mean, and center of basic support function to comprehensively describe the basic support function of ordered propositions. Second, we introduce entropy as a measure of uncertainty in the basic support function of ordered propositions. Third, we generalize the indeterminacy of the basic support function and propose a novel method to measure the consistency between two basic support functions. Finally, based on the above researches, we propose a novel algorithm for fusing ordered propositions. Theoretical analysis and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art methods.

On September 23, the 2016 Lasker-DeBakey clinical medical research award ceremony was celebrated in New York City. This annual prize has been awarded by the Lasker Foundation for over 71 years, and it is the most prestigious biomedical award in the United States, popu- larly known as ＂america＇s Nobel Prize＂. Indeed, 87 Lasker laureates have received the Nobel Prize, including 41 within the last 30 years （one example is the Chinese pharmaceutical chemist Youyou Tu, who won the 2011 Lasker-DeBakey award and four years later received the Nobel Prize）. This year, the honor went to Ralf F. W. Bartenschlager （Heidelberg University, Germany）, Charles m. Rice （Rockefeller University, NY, USA）, and michael J. Sofia （arbutus Biopharma, PA, USA） for the development of cell culture system to study the replication of Hepatitis C virus （HCV） and for the use of this system to develop drugs capable of eliminating Hepatitis C.

Enhancing Heat Transfer and Energy Storage Performance of Shell-and-Tube Latent Heat Thermal Energy Storage Unit with Unequal-Length Fins

Previous studies in literatures adequately emphasized that inserting fins into phase change material is among the most promising techniques to augment thermal performance of shell-and-tube latent heat thermal energy storage *** this study,the novel unequal-length fins are designed from the perspective of synergistic benefits of heat transfer and energy storage performance,and the effects of arrangement,number and total length of unequal-length fins are numerically *** show that utilization of fins with ascending length,when short and long fins are located in the inlet and outlet of heat transfer fluid respectively,can further promote the heat transfer and energy storage performance compared with equal length fins,and a maximum 6.17%and 0.43%increment of heat transfer performance and stored energy is achieved in full melting time,*** number of unequal-length fins plays a major role in the energy storage,and 18.95%and 0.91%improvement of heat transfer performance and stored energy is realized when equipped with 2 unequal-length fins.A 21.17%improvement of the heat transfer performance is obtained when the total length of unequal-length fins is 18 *** present study is helpful to make further efforts to enhance heat transfer and energy storage of shell-and-tube latent heat thermal energy storage unit with unequal-length fins.

Demonstration of tantalum as a structural material for mEmS thermal actuators

This work demonstrates the processing,modeling,and characterization of nanocrystalline refractory metal tantalum(Ta)as a new structural material for microelectromechanical system(mEmS)thermal actuators(TAs).Nanocrystalline Ta films have a coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE)and Young’s modulus comparable to bulk Ta but an approximately ten times greater yield *** mechanical properties and grain size remain stable after annealing at temperatures as high as 1000°*** has a high melting temperature(Tm=3017℃)and a low resistivity(ρ=20µΩcm).Compared to TAs made from the dominant mEmS material,polycrystalline silicon(polysilicon,Tm=1414℃,ρ=2000µΩcm),Ta TAs theoretically require less than half the power input for the same force and displacement,and their temperature change is half that of *** TAs operate at a voltage 16 times lower than that of other TAs,making them compatible with complementary metal oxide semiconductors(CmOS).We selectα-phase Ta and etch 2.5-μm-thick sputterdeposited films with a 1μm width while maintaining a vertical sidewall profile to ensure in-plane movement of TA *** is 25 times thicker than the thickest reactive-ion-etchedα-Ta reported in the technical *** stress sensitivities to sputter parameters and to hydrogen incorporation are investigated and ***,a V-shaped TA is fabricated and tested in *** conventional actuation by Joule heating and passive self-actuation are as predicted by models.

Bioinformatics Analysis on lncRNA and mRNA Expression Profiles for Novel Biological Features of Valvular Heart Disease with Atrial Fibrillation

Impact of the blockage ratio on the transport of sediment in the presence of a hydrokinetic turbine: Numerical modeling of the interaction sediment and turbine

Interactions between hydrokinetic turbines and near scale and far scale bed sediment particles are considered a critical area of assessment; however, a limited number of research studies have been published to address this issue. The current paper explores the influence of the blockage ratio on the morphology evolution downstream from a hydrokinetic turbine. A modeling framework is derived to predict the significant transport induced by a turbine installed on the erodible fluvial sandy bed surface,such as the Eulerian multi-phase model for the sediment and the Blade Element momentum Theory(BEmT) for the turbine, using the open source platform OpenFOam. Two configurations of different blockage ratios are considered. The configurations show differences in the bed morphology and the sediment transport. It has been shown for both configurations that the scour capabilities are enhanced below the turbine due to the acceleration of the flow and increasing local shear stress on the sediment.
