New In Vitro Studies on the Bioprofile of Genista tenera Antihyperglycemic Extract

The inhibition of a-glucosidase and glucose-6-phosphatase,two enzymes involved in the carbohydrate metabolism,is an important target to control glycaemia on individuals with type 2 *** this work we report for the first time the inhibition of both enzymes by the antihyperglycemic n-butanol extract from Genista tenera(Fabaceae).This extract decreased a-glucosidase and glucose-6-phosphatase activities to 0.97 and 80.25%,respectively,being more effective than acarbose,and phlorizin,the positive controls,which reduced enzymes activities only to 17.39 and 96.06%.Once inflammation and oxidative stress are related to diabetic impairments,the anti-inflammatory activity of the extract was also evaluated,through its inhibitory activity over COX-1 enzyme(47.5%inhibition).Moreover,after induction of oxidative stress by UV radiation,the viability of irradiated rat liver hepatoma cells exposed to the extract was significantly higher(67.82%)than that promoted by ascorbic acid,the positive control(45.05%).In addition,the stability of the extract under gastrointestinal conditions was evaluated by HpLC–DAD-ESI–MS/*** diglycosides were identified as the main constituents of the extract,and no alterations in the chemical composition nor in the antioxidant activity were observed after in vitro digestion with artificial gastric and pancreatic juices.

Control Evaluation of Antagonistic Series Elastic Actuation for a Robotic Endoscope Joint

Haptic feedback is typically missing during telemanipulation of surgical robots in minimally invasive surgeries,i.e.,surgeons cannot feel the interaction forces between the instruments and ***,surgeons have to solely rely on visual feedback,which increases complexity of guiding the instruments and poses the safety threat of unperceivable contacts outside the field of *** propose a novel series elastic actuation design for articulated robotic endoscopes to overcome these limitations and evaluate an according device with one *** to the actuation of human fingers,the joint is driven by antagonistic *** are integrated in the transmission between the tendons and the motors outside of the endoscope *** estimated the joint angle and thereby the endoscope shape,measured spring deflection,estimated tendon forces from that deflection,and implemented force control for the endoscope *** torque control and impedance control were evaluated under application of both a continuous force and an impact force to the endoscope *** springs reduced impact forces at the tip of the endoscope through their inherent *** the same time,feeding back the estimated force resulted in a stable tendon force control and a tunable endoscope joint control:Zero torque control effectively reduced the external forces,while the endoscope joint showed the expected stiffness in impedance *** results show that antagonistic series elastic actuation is a promising concept for endoscope joint actuation and that it can lead towards safer robot–tissue interactions in surgical robotics.

We describe the first two conventional, laparoscopic renal operations with a new multi-degree of freedom articulated single-use laparoscopic instrument (ArtiSentialp>TMp>). The two patients underwent different laparoscopic interventions at Ukrb University (Neuruppin, Germany): nephrectomy and Anderson-Hynes-pyeloplasty. All procedures were completed, with no need for conversion or placement of additional ports. No intraoperative complications or technical failure of the instrument was recorded. The mean operative time was 180 min median length of stay was 11.5 d. The instrument could be opened out of the sterile packaging and used at once when it was needed, because it is a single-use instrument. There was real haptical feedback and the costs are minimal compared to robot surgery. The use was straightforward and rapid processes after an intensive training of 4 h in a dry lap. Awaiting future investigations in larger series, this study proves the safety and feasibility of renal surgery with ArtiSentialp>TMp> and provides relevant data that may help early adopters of this surgical instrument.
