Inflammation and fibrosis of the bile ducts are the defining pathological characteristics of primary.sclerosing cholangitis(PSC).A previously.unexplored mechanism for recurrent cholangitis,one of PSC's most common presentations,is bacterial colonization of the biliary.epithelium in the form of biofilm,which may.confer resistance to antibiotics and host phagocy.ic *** aim of the current study.was to assess whether bacteria could be seen on the liver explant and whether they.organized in the form of *** explanted PSC liver from a 60-y.ar-old male who suffered from recurrent cholangitis was formalin-fixed,paraffinembedded and Gram *** specimens were observed under light *** bacteria nor biofilm were *** did not detect bacteria or biofilm in the liver explant of a single PSC patient with recurrent cholangitis using standard light *** suspect this may.be in part due to techniques related to tissue preservation and microscopy.

The functionalities and diverse metastable phases of multiferroic BiFeO3(BFO)thin films depend on the misfit *** mixed phase-induced strain relaxation in multiphase BFO thin films is well known,it is unclear whether a singlecry.talline BFO thin film can accommodate misfit strain without the involvement of its ***,understanding the strain relaxation behavior is key.to elucidating the lattice strain–property.*** this study.a correlative strain analy.is based on dark-field inline electron holography.DIH)and quantitative scanning transmission electron microscopy.STEM)was performed to reveal the structural mechanism for strain accommodation of a single-cry.talline BFO thin *** nanoscale DIH strain analy.is results indicated a random combination of multiple strain states that acted as a primary.strain relief,forming irregularly.strained *** STEM-based bond length measurement of the corresponding strained nanodomains revealed a unique strain accommodation behavior achieved by.a statistical combination of multiple modes of distorted structures on the unit-cell *** globally.integrated strain for each nanodomain was estimated to be close to􀀀1.5%,irrespective of the nanoscale strain states,which was consistent with the fully.strained BFO film on the SrTiO3 *** functional theory.calculations suggested that strain accommodation by.the combination of metastable phases was energetically.favored compared to single-phase-mediated *** discovery.allows a comprehensive understanding of strain accommodation behavior in ferroelectric oxide films,such as BFO,with various low-sy.metry.poly.orphs.

Occult hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection(OCI),first described in 2004,is defined as the presence of HCV RNA in hepatocy.es or peripheral blood mononuclear cells without detectable HCV RNA in the ***,we aimed to review the epidemiology.diagnostic methods,clinical implications and potential man-agement recommendations currently.described in the litera-ture,as well as the future directions for investigation of this *** and Cochrane databases were searched with combination of the following key.ords:"occult","hepatitis C virus",and"occult HCV infection".There are data to support OCI as a potential culprit in cry.togenic liver *** are also consistent data demonstrating the existence of OCI in specific populations,such as dialy.is,human immunodefi-ciency.virus-infected and hepatitis B virus-infected patients,and also in the general *** the gold standard for diagnosis is liver biopsy.examination of peripheral blood mononuclear cells may.be a reliable,safer alternative method of *** HCV infection is likely.associated with liver fibrosis and progression of liver *** studies are required to determine the infectivity.of OCI patients,as well as clarify.the natural course and specific clinical implications of ***,studies are needed to determine whether treat-ment of OCI leads to decreased morbidity.and/or mortality.

Transmission of plant viruses by.phy.ophagous hemipteran insects encompasses complex interactions underly.ng a continuum of processes involved in virus acquisition, retention and inoculation combined with vector feeding behavior. Here, we investigated the effects of dietary.pH on whitefly.（Bemisia tabaci） feeding behavior and release of Lettuce infectious y.llows virus （LIy.） virions retained in the vector＇s foregut. Electrical penetration graph analy.is revealed that variables associated with whitefly.probing and ingestion did not differ significantly.in pH （4, 7.4, and 9） adjusted artificial diets. To investigate virus retention and release, whiteflies allowed to acquire LIy. virions in a pH 7.4 artificial diet were fed pH 4, 7.4, or 9 virion-free artificial （clearing） diets. Immunofluorescent localization analy.es indicated that virions remained bound to the foreguts of approximately.20%-24% of vectors after they.fed on each of the 3 pH- adjusted clearing diets. When RNA preparations from the clearing diets were analy.ed by.reverse transcription （RT） nested-PCR and, in some cases, real-time qPCR, successful amplification of LIy.-specific sequence was infrequent but consistently.repeatable for the pH 7.4 diet but never observed for the pH 4 and 9 diets, suggesting a weak pH-dependent effect for virion release. Viruliferous vectors that fed on each of the 3 pH-adjusted clearing diets transmitted LIy. to virus-free plants. These results suggest that changes in pH values alone in artificial diet do not result in observable changes in whitefly.feeding behaviors, an observation that marks a first in the feeding of artificial diet by.whitefly.vectors; and that there is a potential causal and contingent relationship between the pH in artificial diet and the release/inoculation of foregut bound virions.

In the present study. a phy.ically.based hy.raulic modeling tool and a data-driven approach using artificial neural networks （ANNs） were evaluated for their ability.to simulate the fate and transport of microorganisms in a water sy.tem. To produce reliable data, a pipe network was constructed and a series of experiments using a fecal coliform indicator （Escherichia coli 15597） was conducted. For the phy.ically.based model, morphological （pipe size, link length, slope, etc.） and hy.raulic （flow rate） conditions were used as input variables, and for ANNs, water quality.parameters （conductivity. pH, and turbidity. were used. Both approaches accurately.described the fate and transport of microorganisms （phy.ically.based model： correlation coefficient （R） in the range of 0.914 - 0.977 and ANNs： R in the range of 0.949 - 0.980）, with the exception of one case at a low flow rate （q = 31.56 cm^3/sec）. This study.also indicated that these approaches could be complementarily.utilized to assess the vulnerability.of water facilities and to establish emergency.plans based on hy.othetical scenarios.
