Evaluation of pig oocyte in vitro maturation and fertilization using three gonadotropin-based hormonal compounds

Objective:To evaluate the effect of human chorionic gonadotropins(hCG)and equine chorionic gonadotropins(eCG)on in vitro gilt oocyte maturation and embryonic development,using frozen semen for ***:Two independent experiments(6 replicates each)were carried out to evaluate gilt oocyte maturation,and fertilization and embryonic development by using ovaries from a local ***,712 oocytes were randomly distributed in four-well dishes to receive Novormon(eCG 5.0 IU),PG600(eCG 5.0 IU and hCG 2.5 IU),Chorulon(hCG 5.0 IU),or no *** were incubated with 5%CO2,95%air and saturation humidity at 39℃for 44 *** of the oocytes to metaphaseⅡwas assessed by using the aceto-orcein *** addition,741 oocytes were used and randomly distributed in four-well dishes,and then oocyte maturation was carried out as mentioned,but matured oocytes were washed and placed in fertilization medium with frozen-thawed *** were co-incubated for 7 h,and then washed and placed in development medium,and incubated for further 7 days,at which time embryonic development was *** and embryo development media were not supplemented with the studied ***:Novormon(eCG)and PG600(eCG+hCG)treatments significantly improved the percentages of metaphaseⅡoocytes compared to the control group(Plso observed in the young blastocyst stage between the control group and the PG600 treatment group(Plusions:Hormonal products Novormon(eCG)and PG600(eCG+hCG)can obtain the highest percentages of in vitro maturation in gilt oocytes;however,this effect is not transferred to fertilization rates.

Fate and Behavior of Tetracycline Resistance Genes in Activated Carbon Adsorption

The accessibility of tetracycline resistance gene (tetG) into the pores of activated carbon (AC), as well as the impact of the pore size distribution (PSD) of AC on the uptake capacity of tetG, were investigated using eight types of AC (four coal-based and four wood-based). AC showed the capability to admit tetG and the average reduction of tetG for coal-based and wood-based ACs at the AC dose of 1 g·l-1 was 3.12 log and 3.65 log, respectively. The uptake kinetic analysis showed that the uptake of the gene followed the pseudo-second-order kinetics reaction, and the uptake rate constant for the coal-based and wood-based ACs was in the range of 5.97 × 10-12 - 4.64 × 10-9 and 7.02 × 10-11 - 1.59 × 10-8 copies·mg-1·min-1, respectively. The uptake capacity analysis by fitting the obtained experiment data with the Freundlich isotherm model indicated that the uptake constant (KF) values were 1.71 × 103 - 8.00 × 109 (copies·g-1)1-1/n for coal-based ACs and 7.00 × 108 - 3.00 × 1010 (copies·g-1)1-1/n for wood-based ones. In addition, the correlation analysis between KF values and pore volume as well as pore surface at different pore size regions of ACs showed that relatively higher positive correlation was found for pores of 50 - 100 Å, suggesting ACs with more pores in this size region can uptake more tetG. The findings of this study are valuable as reference for optimizing the adsorption process regarding antibiotic resistance-related concerns in drinking water treatment.

Angiotensin II (Ang II) is the main mediator of the Renin-Angiotensin-System acting on AT1 and other AT receptors. It is regarded as a pleiotropic agent that induces many actions, including functioning as a growth factor, and as a contractile hormone, among others. The aim of this work was to examine the impact of Ang II on the expression and function of α1-adrenergic receptors (α1-ARs) in cultured rat aorta, and aorta-derived smooth muscle cells. Isolated Wistar rat aorta was incubated for 24 h in DMEM at 37˚C, then subjected to isometric tension and to the action of added norepinephrine, in concentration-response curves. Ang II was added (1 × 10−5 M), and in some experiments, 5-Methylurapidil (α1A-AR antagonist), AH11110A (α1B-AR antagonist), or BMY-7378 (α1D-AR antagonist), were used to identify the α1-AR involved in the response. Desensitization of the contractile response to norepinephrine was observed due to incubation time, and by the Ang II action. α1D-AR was protected from desensitization by BMY-7378;while RS-100329 and prazosin partially mitigated desensitization. In another set of experiments, isolated aorta-derived smooth muscle cells were exposed to Ang II and α1-ARs proteins were evaluated. α1D-AR increased at 30 and 60 min post Ang II exposure, the α1A-AR diminished from 1 to 4 h, while α1B-AR remained unchanged over 24 h of Ang II exposure. Ang II induced an increase of α1D-AR at short times, and BMY-7378 protected α1D-AR from desensitization.

Sustainability of microporous polymers and their applications

Microporous polymers(MPs) are studied for their intriguing chemistry and physics as well as their potential application in catalytic transformations, gas-separation processes, water purification and so on. Here, we critically review MPs with respect to the sustainability aspects of their synthesis as well as their applications that have sustainable character. Some MPs have been synthesized from monomers derived from biomass resources, but there is certainly a large potential for further *** are also opportunities to improve the sustainability of MP synthesis in terms of the use of solvents, catalysts, and related aspects. The applications of MPs in processes related to sustainability depend upon multiple properties. A rich and flexible chemistry is important to applications as catalysts for, among other useful reactions, the photoreduction of CO_2 and selective oxidation. The(ultra)micropore volume of MPs are crucial in gas-separation applications such as CO_2 capture, and the chemisorption of CO_2 on MP-tethered alkylamines could offer a means to remove that gas from dilute mixtures. When it comes to the storage of H_2 and CH_4 in MPs for onboard use in fuel cell or biogas cars, volumetric capacity is paramount, meaning that the density of the MPs must be considered. Finally, for use in separation and purifications from liquid mixtures(aqueous or hydrocarbon-based), crosslinked MPs are more limited than the solution-processable MPs that can be more easily processed into films and membranes.

A Three-Dimensional Range-Free localization Algorithm Based on Mobile Beacons for Wireless Sensor Networks

In wireless sensor networks （WSNs） the position information of individual nodes is a matter of vital importance because allows the implementation of necessary network functions such as routing, querying and other applications. The objective of this paper is to propose an algorithm of three-dimensional distributed range-free localization for WSNs, using a mobile beacon （MB） equipped with a rotary and tilting directional antenna. This algorithm, denominated as the three-dimensional azimuthally defined area localization algorithm （3D- ADAl）, is executed in each sensor node and is based only on the analysis of the information received from the MB, therefore is energy efficient and contributes to extend the lifetime of the sensor network. Additionally the proposed algorithm has the advantage of being simple and economical. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is a practical, effective and accurate method for a three-dimensional location of sensor nodes in a WSN.

Redundancy Ring Design for Transponder Subsystem in the VX-SAT Communication Satellite

Modem communications is an indispensable tool for modem social economy and modem social life. The payload of a communication satellite provides radio relay for links between earth stations. With most commercial communication satellites the payload consists of two distinct parts with well defined interfaces： the repeater and the antennas. The repeater designates the electronic equipment which performs a range of functions on the signals from the receiving antenna before delivering them to the transmitting antenna. The VX-SAT project is a system engineering exercise, realized in the China Academy of Space Technology （CAST） with the objective of training the persons in charge of designing futures communication satellites in the Bolivarian Agency of Space Activities （ABAE） in Venezuela. This paper includes an overview of the VX-SAT system, the preliminary design of the communications payload and finally the method used to design the redundancy ring of the transponder subsystem.

Trabectedin therapy as an emerging treatment strategy for recurrent platinum-sensitive ovarian cancer

Epithelial ovarian cancer(OC) is a common gynecologic malignancy in women. The standard treatment for OC is maximal cytoreductive surgical debulking followed by platinum-based chemotherapy. Despite the high response rate to primary therapy, approximately 85% of patients will develop recurrent ovarian cancer(ROC). This review identifies the clinical use of trabectedin in the treatment algorithm for ROC, with specific emphasis on platinum-sensitive ROC, for which trabectedin in combination with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin has been approved as a treatment protocol. The main mechanisms of action of trabectedin at the cellular level and in the tumor microenvironment is also discussed as bases for identifying biomarkers for selecting patients who may largely benefit from trabectedin-based therapies.

Predicting disruptions to drug pharmacokinetics and the risk of adverse drug reactions in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis patients

The liver plays a central role in the pharmacokinetics of drugs through drug metabolizing enzymes and ***-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)causes disease-specific alterations to the absorption,distribution,metabolism,and excretion(ADME)processes,including a decrease in protein expression of basolateral uptake transporters,an increase in efflux transporters,and modifications to enzyme *** can result in increased drug exposure and adverse drug reactions(ADRs).Our goal was to predict drugs that pose increased risks for ADRs in NASH *** research identified 71 drugs with reported ADRs in patients with liver disease,mainly non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFlD),54 of which are known substrates of transporters and/or metabolizing *** NASH is the progressive form of NAFlD but is most frequently undiagnosed,we identified other drugs at risk based on NASH-specific alterations to ADME ***,we present another list of 71 drugs at risk of pharmacokinetic disruption in NASH,based on their transport and/or metabolism *** encompasses drugs from various pharmacological classes for which ADRs may occur when used in NASH patients,especially when eliminated through multiple pathways altered by the ***,these results may inform clinicians regarding the selection of drugs for use in NASH patients.

Experimental hybridization and reproductive isolation between two sympatric species of tephritid fruit flies in the Anastrepha fraterculus species group

Among tephritid fruit flies,hybridization has been found to produce local adaptation and speciation,and in the case of pest species,induce behavioral and ecological alterations that can adversely impact efficient pest *** species group within Anastrepha (Diptera:Tephritidae),is a rapidly radiating aggregate,which includes cryptic species complexes,numerous sister species,and several pest species. Molecular studies have highlighted the possibility of introgression between *** and *** isolation has been studied among morphotypes of the A. fraterculus species complex as a tool for species *** we examined the exis- tence and strength of prezygotic and postzygotic isolation between sympatric populations of two closely related species within the highly derivedfraterculus group (*** and ***),coexisting in *** adults of both species showed a strong tendency for assortative mating,a small proportion of hybrid pairings in both directions were *** also observed asymmetric postzygotic isolation,with one hybrid cross displaying a strong reduction in fecundity and F1 egg *** was greater for the progeny of homotypic and hybrid crosses in the maternal *** was a marked female biased sex ratio distortion for both F1 hybrid *** between *** and *** in nature may be difficult but possible;these two species display stronger reproductive isolation than all pairs of species previously examined in the *** species *** postzygotie isolation is suggestive of Wolbachia mediated cytoplasmic incompatibilities that may be exploited in area-wide pest management.
