Studying the effect of surfactant assisted low-salinity water flooding on clay-rich sandstones

Sandstone reservoirs often contain clay particles that can cause damage and reduce permeability during low-salinity water *** this study,the effect of surfactants on fine migration in clay-rich sandstones and its impact on oil recovery was ***,the impact of surfactants on interparticle forces in fine-matrix,fine-fine,and oil-matrix systems was *** results showed that both CTAB(cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide)and QS(quillaja saponin)cause EDL compaction,weakening the repulsive ***,SDS(sodium dodecyl sulfate)and TX(triton X-100)do not affect the ***,the effect of surfactants on IFT reduction and wettability alteration was experimentally *** surfactants reduced IFT due to the surface excessive concentration *** wettability alteration experiment illustrated that although QS and CTAB compact EDL around oil and matrix particles leading to attraction force augmentation,they both alter wettability through adsorption on matrix and carboxylic groups present in crude oil,*** aqueous solutions were then injected into various clay-rich sandstone sanpacks,which resulted in increased oil ***,the mechanisms leading to enhanced oil recovery variedby surfactant *** increased recovery by 10%through IFT reduction and wettability alteration,while SDS and TX increased recovery by 12%and 9%,respectively,through wettability alteration and extreme fine *** contrast,partial fine migration in the QS flooding experiment reached a recovery increase of 18%.Permeability trends through experiments were also *** CTAB injection,permeability did not reduce,while QS aqueous solution reduced rock permeability to 5 m *** and TX reduced the magnitude of permeability to 2 m *** conclusion,this study demonstrates that surfactants can effectively improve oil recovery in clay-rich sandstones by altering the interparticle forces,reducing IFT,and changing *** results

A laboratory study of a novel bio-based nonionic surfactant to mitigate clay swelling

This study reports the applicability of quillaja saponin(QS)as a vigorous and environmentally friendly shale swelling *** is a natural surfactant,which is extracted from herbal *** inhibition strength of this surfactant was assessed through various experiments,such as sedimentation,inhibition,filtration,particle size,Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM)images,and cutting *** obtained from these tests illustrated that QS greatly inhibits clays from *** optimal concentration for QS in this intend was 10 g/*** of this surfactant with other common additives was also investigated,which showed that it is totally ***,the potential inhibition mechanism was assessed through thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA),zeta potential,and contact angle measurement *** coating,and wettability alteration of clay particles to the oil-wet state was recognized as the most probable mechanism.

Effect of in ovo ghrelin administration on serum malondialdehyde level in newly-hatched chickens

Objective:To investigate effects of in ovo ghrelin administration on serum malondialdehyde(MDA)level in newly-hatched ***:Fertilized eggs were divided into 7 groups:group Tl as control(without injection),group T2(in ovo injected with 50 ng/egg ghrelin on day 5),group T3(in ovo injected with 100 ng/egg ghrelin on day 5),group T4(in ovo injected with 50 ng/egg ghrelin on day 10),group T5(in ovo injected with 100 ng/egg ghrelin on day 10),group T6(in ovo injected with solvent:1%acetic acid,without ghrelin on day 5)and group T7(in ovo injected with solvent without ghrelin on day 10).After hatching,serum MDA concentrations were ***:Chrelin administrated groups(T2,T3,T4 and T5)had lower serum MDA level in comparison with control group(T1)or solvent injected groups(T6 and T7).T2 and T3(ghrelin injection on day 5)had significantly lower MDA concentrations(4.10 and 4.60 nmol/mL,respectively)in comparison with other *** T4 and T5,MDA levels were lower than T1,T6 and T7(non-ghrelin administrated groups)(9.53 and 9.50 in comparison with 10.73,10.03 and 10.13 nmol/mL)and were higher than T2and ***:It can be concluded that in ovo administration of ghrelin can have antioxidative protection and reduce serum MDA *** administration on day 5 of incubation is more efficient.

High concentration particulate matter(PM)has been a serious environmental problem in China and other devel-oping ***-based purification technology is a method to remove airborne particles,and can reduce the energy consumption of ventilation fans in buildings because of its low pressure *** this study,we developed a new pin-to-plate corona discharger with particle-free external air protection to prevent particles polluting the surface of discharge *** using an optical microscope,we observed a certain number of parti-cles deposited on the non-protected(exposed pins)and few particles deposited on the protected pins after they operating for 3 *** experimentally studied the long-term performances of the exposed and protected pins in single-pass PM removal efficiency and ozone *** results showed that the protected pins produce less ozone and have higher breakdown voltage than the exposed *** results indicated that the im-proved pin-to-plate corona discharger has better long-term performance and is safer than the exposed *** results of the research can give an understanding of how to improve electrostatic-based purification technologies toward stable discharging for high removal efficiency of particles.

Illness Perception, Treatment Adherence and Coping in Persons with Coronary Artery Disease Undergoing Angioplasty

Background and Objective: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of sudden death. In this article, we compared patients’ illness perception (IP), treatment adherence and coping mechanisms of patients undergoing percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). Methods: In this descriptive, prospective observational study IP, treatment adherence and coping of 140 patients were evaluated pre-PTCA, at the time of hospital discharge and 1 to 3 months post-PTCA by Illness Perception Questionnaire, morisky Treatment Adherence and Carver’s brief COPE questionnaires. Results: 1 - 3 months post-PTCA, all dimensions of IP changed significantly except personal and treatment control. Adherence scores decreased simultaneously. With respect to coping mechanisms, all increased except behavioral disengagement, emotional support, instrumental support and religion which decreased significantly post-PTCA. Conclusions: In Overall, an improved IP and increased use of controllable causal attributions led to an increase in medication adherence and adaptive coping strategies. Post-treatment health behaviors are predictable by assessing patients’ illness-related beliefs beforehand.

Deposition of Titanium Layer on Steel Substrate Using PECVD Method: A Parametric Study

Metallic titanium film was deposited on H-13 steel substrate at 470°C - 530°C using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) method. In this paper, the effects of manufacturing parameters were investigated on deposited titanium coating characteristics. XRD, FESEM, XPS and AFM were used in order to study coating characteristics. Increasing hydrogen flow rate from 200 to 360 sccm, resulted in a 72% decrease in oxygen content and 38% decrease in chlorine content of the film. Applied plasma voltage has a severe effect on nanohardness of coating. Pressure of the deposition chamber has a negative effect on titanium characteristics.

Rapid synthesis of moSi_2-Si_3N_4 nanocomposite via reaction milling of Si and mo powder mixture

The nanocomposite of moSi2-SiaN4 （molybdenum disilicide-silicon nitride） was synthesized by reaction milling of the mo and Si powder mixture. Changing the processing parameters led to the formation of different products such as a- and B-moSi2, SiaN4, mo2N, and M05Si3 at various milling times. A thermodynamic appraisal showed that the milling of moa2Siss powder mixture was associated with highly exothermic mechanically induced self-sustaining reaction （MSR） between mo and Si. The MSR took place around 5 h of milling led to the formation of a-moSi2 and the reaction between Si and N2 to produce Si3N4 under a nitrogen pressure of 1 MPa. By increasing the nitrogen pressure to 5 MPa, more heat is released, resulting in the dissociation of Si3N4 and the transformation of a-moSi2 to β-moSi2. Heat treatment was also performed on the milled samples and led to the formation of mo2N and the transformation of a-moSi2 to β-moSi2 at the milling times of 10 and 40 h, respectively.

The hot deformation characteristics of the Ti-5.7Al-2.1Sn-3.9Zr-2mo-0.1Si(Ti-6242S)alloy with an acicular starting microstructure were analyzed using processing *** uniaxial hot compression tests were performed at temperatures ranging from 850 to 1000℃and at strain rates of 0.001-1 *** developed processing map was used to determine the safe and unsafe deformation conditions of the alloy in association with the microstructural evolution by SEM and *** was recognized that the flow stress revealed differences in flow softening behavior by deformation at 1000℃compared to the lower deformation temperatures,which was attributed to microstructural *** processing map developed for typical strain of 0.7 in two-phase field exhibited high efficiency value of power dissipation of about 55%at 950℃and 0.001 s-1,basically due to extensive *** increase in strain rate and a decrease in temperature resulted in a decrease in globularization ofαlamellae,whileαlamellar kinking ***,the instability domain of flow behavior was identified in the temperature range of 850-900℃and at the strain rate higher than 0.01 s-1 reflecting the flow localization and adiabatic shear *** considering the power efficiency domains and the microstructural observations,the deformation in the temperature range of 950-1000℃and strain rate range of 0.001-0.01 s-1 was desirable leading to high *** was realized that(950℃,0.001 s-1)was the optimum deformation condition for the alloy.

Refractive surgery: the most cost-saving technique in refractive errors correction

AIM： To compare the lifetime and annual economic burden of spectacles, contact lenses, and refractive surgery in correction of refractive ***： This is a cross-sectional study with convenience sampling which 120 patients were interviewed in a tertiary referral hospital in the Iranian health care system. The bottom-up based cost of illness approach was estimated using a face-to-face interview to assess the direct and indirect cost of different refractive errors correction of any correction technologies. RESULTS： Correction with spectacle imposes a total direct cost of US dollar （US$） 342.5 （±8.41） per year and US$9373.5 （±230.1） per lifetime to each patient. These figures for the contact lenses were obtained US$198.3 （±0.12） and US$5203.1 （±256.3） and for refractive surgery were obtained US$19.1 （±1.2） and US$568.1 （±64.6）, respectively. Overall, based on age-adjusted prevalence rates, astigmatism had the highest share of refractive errors economic burden with a lifetime direct cost of slightly less than US$5.49 billion, while hyperopia and myopia imposed less than US$5.24 and 4.2 billion on patients, respectively. The annually imposed cost on each individual Iranian patient with refractive errors is US$308.5. CONCLUSION： Based on 18mo post refractive surgery course observation, which is generalized to whole life, refractive surgery significantly imposed much less cost compared with spectacles and contact lenses. Refractive errors among Iranians result in considerable economic burden. Using the refractive surgery instead of other two correction methods has the ability to reduce this economic loss in the future.
