In-Vivo Anti-Hyperlipidemic Activity and Preliminary Phytochemical Screening of Canephora robusta

The main aim of this study is to determine the anti-hyerlipidemic and anti-obesity activity of Canephora robusta in hyperlipidemia induced rats. Prepared coffee bean extract (GCE) was procured from the market which is unroasted and contains more quantity of caffeine and chlorogenic acid when compared to roasted coffee. Male albino Wister rats are fed with high fat diet (HFD) for weeks to induce hyperlipidemia in rats, which are divided into 4 groups with 4 animals in each group. Test GCBE was given in doses of 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg to III and IV groups which are fed with HFD for 30 days. Then blood samples were collected through retro-orbital sinus by capillaries and serum is separated for analysis. The result obtained from lipid profile which includes total cholesterol, triglycerides, very low density lipoproteins, and low density lipoproteins shows the decreased level when compared to the hyperlipidemic control. This shows the significant reduction of total body weight (p < 0.05) when given with dose of 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg. The present study suggests that GCBE has anti-obesity and anti-hyperlipidemic activity, where 400 mg/kg is more effective to reduce the total body weight and lipid levels when compared to 200 mg/kg. Further studies on this extract may lead to identify the possible mechanism of action and isolation of active principle from the same.

Cross-sectional analysis of obesity and high blood pressure among undergraduate students of a university medical college in South India

Objective:To estimate the prevalence of obesity and high blood pressure among undergradu-ate students of a university medical ***:A cross-sectional study was conducted at a medical college among 434 medical stu-dents.A questionnaire was used to collect basic demographic details,followed by anthropometric *** mass index(BMI)was classified according to the World Health Organization *** pressure was measured with a standard mercury sphygmomanometer and clas-sified according to the seventh report of the Joint National Committee(JNC VII)on prevention,detection,evaluation,and treatment of high blood *** were entered into and analyzed with SPSS version ***:Nearly 65.0% of students had normal BMI,9.9% were underweight,17.9% were overweight,and 7.6% were *** was more prevalent among males than among females on the basis of anthropometric variables such as BMI,waist-hip ratio,and waist-stature ratio,and this difference was found to be statistically *** pressure was in the normal range among 55.0% of the students,36.6% had blood pressure in the prehypertensive range,7.6% had blood pressure in the stage 1 category of the JNC VII criteria,and 0.5% had blood pressure in the stage 2 category of the JNC VII *** the students who had blood pressure greater than 140/90 mm Hg,63.0% were males and 37.0% were females,and this difference was statistically ***:The prevalence of obesity was 7.6% and that of high blood pressure was 8.1% among the medical students,which were higher than those reported in the literature for the same age group and warrant further evaluation.

Biodiesel production from microbial lipid obtained by intermittent feeding of municipal sludge and treated crude glycerol

In the present study,municipal secondary sludge and purified glycerol(obtained after acid treatment of crude glycerol)were used together for lipid production using intermittent feeding *** sludge feeding strategy(sludge SS 30 g/L)resulted in a higher biomass(54.99 g/L)and lipid concentration(25.35 g/L)at 96 h when compared to 35 g/L SS single sludge feeding or control strategy(45.67 g/L biomass&19.16 g/L lipid).Moreover,the intermittent sludge feeding strategy significantly reduced foaming and requirement of anti-foam during fermentation when compared to control *** energy balance of biodiesel production from lipid obtained by intermittent sludge feeding strategy(30 g/L SS)was energeti-cally *** was also revealed from yield coefficients and energy balance that sludge had an important contribution in microbial lipid and biodiesel production.

Optimization of trace elements in purified glycerol for microbial lipid and citric acid production by Yarrowia lipolytica SKY7

Purified glycerol obtained after acid treatment of crude glycerol solution was used as the carbon source for lipid and citric acid production using *** *** purified glycerol was high in phosphorus,it was important to inves-tigate the impact of fortification of trace elements in the medium on cell growth,lipid and citric acid(CA)*** all the trace elements(including phosphates and sulfates)required for growth and lipid production were added to the purified glycerol medium,high biomass(51.67 g/L)and lipid concentration(19.47 g/L)were observed at 96 h of fed-batch fermentation with low CA concentration of 5.42 g/*** purified glycerol medium without additional trace elements gave low biomass(27.67 g/L),lipid concentration(9.35 g/L)at 80 h of fed-batch fermentation,but gave high CA concentration(24.51 g/L).When purified glycerol was provided with only sulfates or all elements except KH_(2)PO_(4),low biomass(32.59 g/L and 38.52 g/L)and citric acid concentration(1 g/L and 2.42 g/L)were obtained at 96 h.

Alzheimer's disease(AD),characterized by the accumulation of protein aggregates including phosphorylated Tau aggregates,is the most common neurodegenerative disorder with limited therapeutic *** plays a critical role in the degradation of phosphorylated Tau aggregates,and transcription factor EB(TFEB)is a master regulator of autophagy and lysosomal ***,small-molecule autophagy enhancers targeting TFEB hold promise for AD ***,we found that celastrol,an active ingredient isolated from the root extracts of Tripterygium wilfordii(Lei Gong Teng in Chinese)enhanced TFEB-mediated autophagy and lysosomal biogenesis in vitro and in mouse ***,celastrol reduced phosphorylated Tau aggregates and attenuated memory dysfunction and cognitive deficits in P301S Tau and 3xTg mice,two commonly used AD animal *** studies suggest that TFEB-mediated autophagy-lysosomal pathway is responsible for phosphorylated Tau degradation in response to ***,our findings indicate that Celastrol is a novel TFEB activator that promotes the degradation of phosphorylated Tau aggregates and improves memory in AD animal ***,Celastrol shows potential as a novel agent for the treatment and/or prevention of AD and other tauopathies.
