Local and Time Changes over a 66-Year Period and Annual Relocation of Saudi Arabian Subtropical High Pressure

Saudi Arabian subtropical high pressure is a major system affecting general circulation of the atmosphere of west Asia. Its annual relocation affects the relocation of other systems in the area, such as Mediterranean cyclones, Sudanese low pressure areas, and west wind waves. This system is known to relocate to the south and north in response to outward solar relocation, but the reasons behind its eastern and western relocation have not been studied thoroughly. The present study examined 1000 and 850 HPa levels over the course of 66 years (1948-2015) to determine a pattern of latitudinal and longitudinal relocation of the system using synoptic maps. The research showed that, after 2008, high pressure latitudinal and longitudinal swings were larger than in previous years and the annual high pressure relocation was not in concord with the apparent motion of the sun. At the onset of autumnal moderation, the high pressure core was positioned to the north of Saudi Arabia (22° - 30° north latitude and 42° - 50° south longitude). Southern movement continued until the end of March, when the core again relocated to the north. These relocations first occurred slowly, but the northern relocation occurred very quickly from May to June, such that the core moved northward 22° to 30°. After June, the core did not relocate much until the end of September. After September, it relocated strongly south in all time periods. It was noted that high pressure over Saudi Arabia had two cores from June to September in some years;in others the high pressure core was in southwestern Iran and Iraq. In still others, a southwest to northeast high pressure tab entered Iran from the southwest (Khuzestan) and continued northward with a core forming in the northern Caspian Sea.

In this paper, the effect of adding different concentrations of kinetic inhibitors on the induction time of hydrogen sulfide hydrate formation in a reactor equipped with automatic adjustable temperature controller is studied. A novel method namely ＂sudden cooling＂ is used for performing the relevant measurements, in which the induction time of H2S hydrate in the presence/absence of PVP and L-tyrosine with different concentrations （100, 500, and 1000 ppm） is determined. As a result, PVP with the concentration of 1000 ppm in aqueous solution is detected as a more suitable material for increasing the induction time of H2S hydrate formation among the investigated kinetic hydrate inhibitors.

BACKGROUND： Recurrent pregnancy loss （RPL） is a heterogeneous condition and thrombophilias have been considered as a probable cause. OBJECTIVE： The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of the coagulation factor XIII Va134Leu polymorphism among women with unexplained RPL. METHODS： A total of 140 women with a history of unexplained RPL and 100 age-matched healthy fertile women were recruited. The presence of FXIII Va134Leu polymorphism among the cases and controls was investigated using PCR-RFLP method. RESULTS： Genotype analyses of the subjects revealed that the patients had a significantly higher prevalence of V/L and L/L than the controls （P〈 0.05）： 33.5% vs. 15%, and 9.2% vs. 2%, respectively. CONCLUSION： These results indicate a significant association between FXIII Va134Leu polymorphism and unexplained RPL in the Iranian patient.

In the present work, a ultrasound-assisted emulsification dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction based on solidification of floating organic droplet method has been developed as a sample preparation method prior to flame atomic absorption spectrometry determination of trace amounts of gold in the standard, wastewater and river water samples. In the proposed method, 1-dodecanol and 5-(4-dimethylamino-benzylidene) were used as extraction solvent and chelating agent, respectively. Several factors that may be affected on the ex-traction process, such as type and volume of the extraction solvent, ionic strength, pH of the aqueous solu-tion, extraction temperature and extraction time were studied and optimized. Under the best experimental conditions, the calibration curve exhibited linearity over the range of 8.0 ng●mL-1- 3.0 μg●mL-1 with a correlation coefficient of 0.9978 and detection limit based on three times the standard deviation of the blank signal was 1.5 ng●mL-1. Eight replicate determinations of 0.2 and 1.0 μg●mL-1 of gold gave a mean absorbance of 0.051 and 0.253 with relative standard deviations of ±2.3% and ±1.5%, respectively. Finally, the developed method was successfully applied to the extraction and determination of gold ions in a silica ore, wastewater, river water and standard samples and satisfactory results were obtained.

Reservoir sedimentation resulting from water erosion is an important environmental issue in many countries where storage of water is crucial for economic and agricultural development. Therefore, this paper reports results from analysis of the soil hydrological response, i.e. soil water erosion, to simulated rainfall resulting in sediment accumulation at the reservoir of Ekbatan Dam(Hamedan province, Iran). Also, another objective of this study was to simulate the future trends in reservoir sedimentation(soil loss rate; SLR) from indoor rainfall simulator data by multiple linear regression(MLR) and Artificial Neural Networks(ANNs). For this research, three sampling points with different types of soils were chosen including clayey sand soil(SC-SM),silty soil(ML), and clayey soil(CL). The input parameters were slope gradient(sin θ), soil type(St), water content(w), dry density e?dT; shear strength(τ), unconfined compressive strength(qu), permeability(k), and California bearing ratio(CBR). Using MLR and ANN methods, 7 models were developed with 2 constant predictors(i.e. sin θ and St) and 6 free predictors which were added in each step one by one. Among MLR models, model 5 with St,sin θ,?d, τ, w, and quas input parameters was statistically significant. Among ANN models, model 4 with St,sin θ,?d, τ, and w as input parameters, 9 nodes, and 1 hidden layer was statistically significant. The root mean square error(RMSE), mean error(ME), and correlation coefficient(R) values were1.433 kg/m~2 h, 0.0195 kg/m~2 h, and 0.698 for the MLR model and 0.38 kg/m~2 h, 0.151 kg/m~2 h, and 0.98 for the ANN model, respectively. These results show that the ANN model could better predict the SLR in comparison to the MLR model. The results also demonstrate that shear strength, among the strength parameters, had a greater impact on the SLR than compressive strengths(quand CBR). Last but not the least, the reservoir sedimentation was estimated for all methods and compared with the observed data

The Diagnostic Value of H Formula to Predict Mortality in Hospitalized Patients with Infectious Diseases

The ability to identify patients with risk of mortality in the initial stages allows us to introduce a more aggressive treatment in order to improve patients’ survival. In this study, we used systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) criteria, respiratory and heart rate per minute, and consciousness level [(Glasgow coma scale (GCS)] to develop a formula to predict death in patients admitted to the Infectious Diseases ward of Imam Reza hospital. Methods: This descriptive study was a cross sectional study done in the Infectious Diseases ward of Imam Reza hospital, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Iran. alive and dead patients between the dates September 1, 2006 to September 1, 2007 were studied. In this study, data such as past medical history, prescribed drugs and their administration by nursing and medical staff was extracted from patients’ files. Also, the time of death, the first vital signs recorded in the hospital and the formula H = (PR + RR) - GCS (respiratory rate per minute plus heart rate per minute minus Glasgow coma scale (GCS)) was calculated for both alive and dead patients. Data was analyzed by SPSS software. Mann-Whitney test, Roc Curve, and logistic regression model were used for data analysis. Results: The total number of admitted patients was 1007 of whom 90 (10.82%) died. One patient was excluded from the study. Out of 90 dead patients, 51 (56.6%) were male and 39 (43.3%) were female. There was no significant difference between the two groups regarding the gender (P > 0.05). The mean age of the study group (deceased) was 59 ± 21 and the mean age of the control group (alive) was 58 ± 21. The Mann-Whitney test showed that the result of H Formula was significantly different between the two groups, (126 ± 26 for the study group and 111 ± 22 for the control group). The cutoff for H Formula was equal to 112.5. Negative and positive predictive values, specificity and sensitivity were 0.85, 0.35, 0.57, and 0.70 respectively. Logistic regressio

Objective： To date, there has been little information published on the death of rural road accident deaths. This study uses burden of injury method to explore a more accurate estimate of years of life lost due to road traffic crashes occurring over a four-year period in Guilan province, northern Iran. Methods： Rural road accident deaths from 2009 to 2013 were extracted from Iran＇s Forensic Medicine System, Death Registry System and Road Trauma Research center database. Results： During the study period, the average years of life lost due to motor vehicle crashes was 13.8 per 1 000 persons, ranging from 11.9 during March 2011- 2012 to 15.8 per 1 000 persons during March 2012-2013. Conclusion： Road accident deaths in 2013 remained at the same high level as in 2009. The information obtained from this study provides a new perspective on fatal road traffic crash victims in rural settings and show us that more attention is needed in this area.

An increase in heart rate variability can be an index for end point of resuscitation in trauma patients

Purpose: The measurement of heart rate variability (HRV) is a non-invasive method to analyze the balance of the autonomic nervous system. The aim of this study was to compare the changes of HRV and base deficit (BD) during the treatment of trauma patients. Methods: Forty-three trauma patients with a low injury severity scores (ISS < 24) and negative base excess on admission were included in this study. Based on the BD changes, patients were divided into three groups:‘end pointed’ group (n =13), patients' BDs instantly cleared after primary hydration;‘needs further resuscitation’ group (n=21), patients' BDs did not reach the end point and thus required further hydration or packed red blood cells transfusion;and ‘hydration minimal change’ group (n=9), patients' BDs lower than 2.5 mmol/L at the onset of admission and thereafter had minimal change (near normal range). The changes in HRV during fluid resuscitation were detected and compared to BD changes in their arterial blood gases. All data were analysed using the SPSS software Version 15.0. Repeated measures ANOVA was used to determine the changes in HRV, heart rate, blood pressure, and BD among groups. Results: A significant reverse correlation was found between the BD ratio and the HRV ratio (r=0.562;p= 0.01). The HRV of patients with aggravated BDs after fluid resuscitation was decreased. There was an increase in HRV at the time of BD clearance. A decrease in HRV after primary crystalloid hydration bore a significant connection with the need for an ICU (p = 0.021) and transfusion of packed red blood cells (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Increase in HRV may be a new non-invasive index for the end point of resuscitation in trauma patients.

Effect of Tillage and Planting Methods on the Soil Properties, Grain Drill Performance, and Wheat Yield

The effect of conservation tillage methods and seeding machines on the soil physical properties, performance of grain drill, wheat yield, and wheat yield components was evaluated. The research was conducted in a split block experimental design with twelve treatments and four replications, and a local wheat variety （Shiraz） was planted in this study. Main plots were tillage methods including：（1） primary tillage using moldboard plow without moldboard; （2） primary tillage with disk harrow; and （3） primary tillage with chisel plow. Subplots were grain drill types including：（1） planting with Taka grain drill without furrower; （2） planting with Taka grain drill having furrower; （3） planting with Hamadan Machine Barzegar grain drill having furrower and runner opener; 4） planting with grain drill having ripple opener. Parameters including mean weight diameter of clods （MWD）, soil bulk density, uniformity of seed planting depth, seed distribution uniformity, seed emergence, crop yield, and crop yield components were measured. SAS software was used to analyze the collected data and the method of benefit to cost ratio was used to compare the treatments from the economic point of view. Results indicated that tillage method had no significant effect （P = 0.05） on the measured parameters. Plant per unit area, seed emergence, uniformity of seed planting depth, and MWD were significantly affected by the grain drill type （P 〈 0.05） while, the type of grain drill had no significant effect on the rest of measured parameters. Taka grain drill without furrower had the highest uniformity of planting depth and proper soil MWD, and grain drill with ripple opener had the highest seed emergence and plant per unit area. Interaction between tillage methods and grain drill types affected the soil MWD, seed emergence, and crop yield （P 〈 0.05） in such a way that the combination of primary tillage with disk harrow and planting with grain drill having ripple opener provided the highest crop yiel
