Numerical simulation of incipient particle motion

A two-dimensional(2 D) computational model for simulation of incipient sediment motion for noncohesive uniform and non-uniform particles on a horizontal bed was developed using the Discrete Element Method(DEM).The model was calibrated and verified using various experimental data reported in the literature and compared with different theories of incipient particle *** analysis was done and the effects of relevant parameters were *** addition to hydrodynamic forces such as drag,shear lift and Magnus force,the particle-particle interaction effects were included in the *** asymptotic critical mobility number was evaluated for various critical particle Reynolds numbers(R*) in the range of very small and very large R*.The obtained curve is classified into four *** was found that in the linear region,the drag force has the principal role on the initiation of ***,the critical mobility number is independent of particle diameter.A procedure for estimating the critical shear velocity directly from the information on particle diameter and roughness height was ***,the mechanism of incipient motion for the different regions was studied and the effect of different forces on the incipient particle motion was *** was found that the maximum effects of lift and Magnus forces were,respectively,less than ten and twenty percent of the total *** drag force,however,was typically the dominant force accounting for majority of the net hydrodynamic force acting on sediment particles at the onset of incipient motion.

The aim of this study was to determine whether word formation strategy improves vocabulary learning of Iranian intermediate EFL students, or not. The research design is True experimental, pretest post test control group design. Hence, a group of seventy homogeneous students were selected. They were randomly assigned to control and experimental groups. Then, both groups enjoyed a series of similar instructions except that the students in experimental group were required to divide the words they are faced with to their meaningful and functional constituents. In order to make students learn vocabularies through analyzing them to their functional and grammatical affixes, they are led to relate the faced words to their relative groups and compare and contrast the similarities and differences between them. In this study the students used the books, which they studied in their institute. Finally, in order to capture the probable significant effect of learning vocabulary through word formation strategy on vocabulary learning of Iranian intermediate EFL students, a t-test was used. The results rejected the null hypothesis, and indicated that learning vocabulary through word formation strategy positively affected Iranian intermediate EFL students’ vocabulary learning.

Analyzing the Essay Writing Patterns of Iranian Intermediate-Level Korean Language Learners: A Study Based on the TOPIK Exam

This study examines the writing abilities of Iranian intermediate Korean learners,specifically their performance in the compositional writing section of the Test of Proficiency in Korean(TOPIK).By utilizing the many FACETS-Rasch Model,we meticulously analyzed nine writing samples from the 52nd *** samples were evaluated using a modified rubric ranging from 0 to 3 based on predefined criteria for written *** results underscored that the sections on“appropriateness of spacing and spelling,”“relevance of vocabulary,”and“content diversity”presented the most significant challenges for the *** the other hand,“the quantity of writing”emerged as the least challenging *** findings reveal substantial disparities in various aspects of writing proficiency among *** study not only pinpoints issue areas in writing skills,but also underscores the necessity of customized teaching strategies within the TOPIK framework to address these ***,it offers valuable insights that could bolster the effectiveness of teaching writing to Korean language *** findings of this study are not only significant for the field of language education,but also contribute to a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by intermediate learners and provide a roadmap for improving language instruction.

Ammonia-assisted synthesis method for CoTiO_3 nanoporous matrix

The theory of an ＂ammonia fountain＂ was developed to synthesize a CoTiO3 nanoporous matrix using a modified co-precipitation method at the interface of the aqueous solution and the saturated NH3 atmosphere. On the basis of this theory, for the first time, a new assumption was expanded to show the regular （re）arrangement of metal cations near to the surface of the solution. The morphology of the CoTiO3 phase was observed using SEM. The result indicates the nano-narrow formation of CoTiO3 particles. The size of the particles was calculated at about 27 nm. From the XRD patterns, the formation of cobalt titanate nanoparticles was confirmed.

Syringic acid induces cancer cell death in the presence of Cu(Ⅱ)ions via pro-oxidant activity

Objective:To investigate the effects of syringic acid on HEK 293 and HepG2 cells in the absence and presence of exogenous Cu(Ⅱ)and Fe(Ⅱ)***:The antiproliferative effects of syringic acid on HEK 293 and HepG2 cells in the absence and presence of exogenous Cu(Ⅱ)and Fe(Ⅱ)ions were examined by MTT ***,colony-forming,reactive oxidative species(ROS)generation,apoptosis induction,autophagy,mitochondrial membrane potential,and mitochondrial mass were ***:At 24 and 72 h,no significant differences were observed in the viability of HepG2 cells between the control and syringic acid+Fe(Ⅱ)***,exposure of HepG2 cells to syringic acid+Cu(Ⅱ)for 72 h reduced the cell viability ***,ROS formation,induction of apoptosis,and autophagic vacuoles were significantly increased in HepG2 cells without marked changes in mitochondrial membrane potential and mitochondrial ***,syringic acid+Cu(Ⅱ)reduced the plating efficiency and surviving fraction ***:The combination of syringic acid with Cu(Ⅱ)was toxic to cancer cells and showed pro-oxidant *** addition,this combination induced autophagy in cancer cells with less cytotoxic effects on normal cells,which is a potential candidate for the development of novel therapeutics towards cancer.
