Effects of Solid Solution Treating on the Microstructureand Damping Behaviour of MnCuNiFe Alloys

A high damping condition is easily obtained in Mn-(16-24) Cu-(4-6) Ni-2Fe (at. pct) alloys, when cooling rate is controlled after the solid solution treatment at 1173 K. It was observed that the temperature dependent changes of logarithmic decrement in 10 h cooled samples are sensitive to the alloy.composition. As compared with water quenching treatment, controlled 10 h cooling improves T//N temperature of the alloys extensively by producing a Mn-enriched matrix portion in the alloys. Calculations suggest that the relative decreases of Cu and Ni content in the matrix portion be dominated by the Ni content in the original alloys, and therefore, the volume fraction of the Cu, Ni-enriched precipitates is estimated to be about 20% and 10% in the 4Ni and 6Ni alloys, respectively. As a result, the T//N temperature for each alloy, corresponding to the rising temperature of logarithmic decrement, has been related to the Cu, and Ni in the Mn-enriched matrix. The existence of left brace 110 right brace twinning boundaries is confirmed in the microstructure of both 4Ni and 6Ni alloys. However, the relative lattice strains, which the twinning boundaries act to accommodate, were found largely different in the two alloys. It is considered that boundaries with smaller orientation deviation can coordinate the external stresses easily by cyclic moving, and therefore, the broader damping peak which occurs in the 10 h cooled 6Ni alloy becomes feasible. Electron diffraction results also indicate possible formation of many sub-crystals in the matrix phase, which are relatively rotated on some invariant planes. Those sub-crystal boundaries might play some attenuation roles in the temperature range between T//N and room temperature. (Edited author abstract) 9 Refs.

Thermo-mechanical,Wear and Fracture Behavior of High-density Polyethylene/Hydroxyapatite Nano composite for Biomedical Applications:Effect of Accelerated Ageing

The objective of this work is to demonstrate how the viscoelastic, thermal, rheological, hardness, wear resistance and fracture behavior of bioinert high-density polyethylene （HDPE） can be changed by the addition of hydroxyapatite （HAP） nano particles. Also the effects of accelerated thermal ageing on the composite properties have been investigated. Different weight fractions of HAP nano particles up to 30 wt% have been incorporated in HDPE matrix by using melt blending in co-rotating intermeshing twin screw extruder. The fracture toughness results showed a remarkable decrease in proportion to the HAP content. The differential scanning calorimetry results indicated that the melting temperature and crystallinity were affected by the addition of HAP nano particles into the matrix. The complex viscosity increased as the percentage of HAP increased due to the restriction of the molecular mobility. The dynamic mechanical analysis results revealed that higher storage modulus （8.3 1011 Pa） could be obtained in the developed HDPE/HAP in 30 wt% compared to neat HDPE （5.1 1011 Pa）. Finally, the hardness and wear resistance of HDPE were improved significantly due to the addition of HAP nano particles. The changes in the HDPE and its nano composite properties due to ageing showed that the HDPE and its nano composites crystallinity increased while the fracture toughness, hardness, wear resistance, storage and loss modulus decreased.

The present study specifically investigates vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) catalytic oxidation for toluene degradation over CeO_(2) *** effects of ultraviolet photocatalytic oxidation (UV-Pco) and ozone catalytic oxidation (OZco) were manifested in the results of toluene removal and cox generation,while the combination of UV-Pco andOZco (UV-OZco) did not lead to improvement of *** the processes contribute to ozone decomposition,but no obvious synergetic effects of the different processes can be *** analysis results indicated that more toluene was oxidized into by-products,such as benzyl alcohol and benzaldehyde,by UV-OZco rather than forming *** hydroxyl radical (·OH) and superoxide radical (·O_(2)^(-)) were found in all the processes of the VUV-Pco-OZco system(combination of VUV photolysis,UV-Pco,OZco and UV-OZco processes).In the UV-OZco process,the formation of hydroxyl radical was promoted,while that of superoxide radical was impeded,resulting in lower mineralization level of *** mechanistic study of toluene degradation over CeO_(2) nanorods in the VUV-Pco-OZco system revealed that with the formation of·O_(2)^(-)and·OH,toluene is first oxidized to intermediates,followed by further ring–opening reaction and,finally,degradation into co_(2) and H_(2)***_(2) nanorods function as both ozonation catalyst and photocatalyst,and the redox pair of Ce^(3+)and Ce^(4+)are interconvertible and can keep a balance.

Thermo-kinetic characteristics on stabilizing hetero-phase interface of metal matrix composites by crystal plasticity finite element method

Using dislocation-based constitutive modeling in three-dimension crystal plasticity finite element(3D CPFE)simulations,co-deformation and instability of hetero-phase interface in different material systems were herein studied for polycrystalline metal matrix composites(MMCs).Local stress and strain fields in two types of 3layer MMCs such as fcc/fcc Cu-Ag and fcc/bcc Cu-Nb have been predicted under simple compressive ***,more severe strain-induced interface instability can be observed in the fcc/bcc systems than in the fcc/fcc systems upon refining to metallic nanolayered composites(MNCs).By detailed analysis of stress and strain localization,it has been demonstrated that the interface instability is always accompanied by high-stress concentration,i.e.,thermodynamic characteristics,or high strain prevention i.e.,kinetic characteristics,at the hetero-phase *** then follows that the thermodynamic driving forceG and the kinetic energy barrier Q during dislocation and shear banding can be adopted to classify the deformation modes,following the so-called thermo-kinetic *** by inserting a high density of high-energy interfaces into the Cu-Nb composites,such thermo-kinetic integration at the hetero-phase interface allows a successful establishment of MMCs with the high△G-high Q deformation mode,which ensures high hardening and uniform strain distri-bution,thus efficiently suppressing the shear band,stabilizing the hetero-phase interface,and obtaining an exceptional combination in strength and *** hetero-phase interface chosen by a couple of thermodynamics and kinetics can be defined as breaking the thermo-kinetic correlation and has been proposed for artificially designing MNCs.

A MODEL FOR NUMERICAL CALCULATION OF UNSTEADyTEMPERATURE FIELD

The model established in this paper for calculating the unsteady temperature field, in which physical parameters varies with temperatures, is simplified as compared with the classical one by defining the heat conductivity as function of temperature and dealing with the latent heat of phase transformation and boundary.conditions. The results show that the probability of absolute error less 2℃ between the calculated and measured values in temperature field calculation reaches above 80%.

N_(2)and Ar dilution on the premixed biogas jet flame under external acoustic enforcement

In this study.combustion instabilities and flue gas emission changes under different dilutions of N_(2)(nitrogen)and Ar(argon)of a promising biogas mixture(70%CH4-30%co_(2))in the fight against greenhouse gas emissions were *** the experiments,additions were made from 0%to 50%at intervals of 10%for both *** order to detect the instability of the flame,external acoustic enforcements at different frequencies was applied through the speakers placed in the combustion chamber *** dynamic pressure fluctuation values were *** results showed that low dilution ratios were effective in reducing flame instability for both inert ***,as the dilution ratio increased,the fuel/air mixture became leaner and blowoff *** the case of comparing two different gases,it has been observed that the effect of argon gas on reducing dynamic pressure fluctuation is *** outlet temperature and brightness values of the flame decreased in both Ar and N_(2)*** and NOx emissions increased with increasing diluent volume for all dilution *** the emissions of the two diluent gases are compared,the co emission,which was 3134 ppm in the undiluted condition,increased up to 4949 ppm in 50%Ar dilution,while it increased to 4521 ppm in 50%N_(2)dilution.

The characterization of multiple iron-rich phases in high-pressure die-cast AlSi10MnMg alloy was *** was focused on the formation and fracture behavior of the primary iron-rich phase((P-IMC)_(I))formed in the shot sleeve and plate-shaped eutectic iron-rich phase in high-pressure die cast(HPDC)AlSi10MnMg *** show that multiple types of iron-rich phases with various morphologies,in-cluding primary iron-rich phases(polyhedral(P-IMC)_(I) and(P-IMC)_(II))and eutectic iron-rich phases(plate-shaped,net shape,and fish-bone shape),were found in HPDC ***(P-IMC)_(I) formed in the shot sleeve were distributed in the interface between primaryα-Al and binary Al-Si *** size(P-IMC)_(II) and various eutectic iron-rich phases formed in the die cavity and they were distributed in Al-Si binary *** primary iron-rich phases belonged to a simple cubic crystal structure with a lattice constant a=1.265 nm and they exhibited a lateral growth characteristic with a termination of{110}surface.βphase was surrounded byδphase and they.coexisted in a plate-shaped iron-rich ***-density stacking fault inβphase andδ/βinterface provided an excellent nucleation site forδ*** mechanical behavior,the stress concentration caused by eutectic iron-rich phases was far less than(P-IMC)_(I) and it would not cause crack initiation along the eutectic cluster *** addition,(P-IMC)_(I) showed the worst deformation coordination with primaryα-Al while the plate-shaped eutectic iron-rich phase exhibited similar deformation characteristics with silicon particles.
