Large tanks are extensively used for storing water,petrochemicals and *** they are often cited in earthquake-prone areas,the safe and continuous operation of these important structures must be ensured even when severe earthquakes occur,since their failure could have devastating financial and socio-environmental ***-isolation has been widely adopted for the efficient seismic protection of such critical ***,base-isolated tanks can be located relatively close to active faults that generate strong excitations with special ***,viscous dampers can be incorporated into the isolation system to reduce excessive displacement demands and to avoid overconservative isolator ***,only a few studies have focused on the investigation of seismic response of base-isolated liquid storage tanks in conjunction with supplemental viscous ***,the impact of the addition of supplemental linear viscous dampers on the seismic performance of tanks isolated by single friction pendulum devices is investigated *** levels of supplemental damping are assessed and compared with respect to isolators′displacement capacity and accelerations that are transferred to the tanks.

This paper attempts to investigate the use of approximate 2D numerical simulation techniques for the evaluation of lignite pillar geomechanical response, formed via the room and pillar mining *** and applicability of the developing methodology are assessed through benchmarking with a more direct and accurate 3D numerical model. This analysis utilizes an underground lignite mine which is being developed in soft rock environment. Through the decisions made for the optimum room and pillar layout, the design process highlights the strong points and the weaknesses of 2D finite element analysis, and provides useful recommendations for future reference. The interpretations of results demonstrate that 2D approximation techniques come near quite well to the actual 3D ***, external load approximation technique seems to fit even better with the respective outcomes from the 3D analyses.

Participatory sensing is a promising approach with which people contribute sensory information to form a body of knowledge. In practice, people may have different ways to engage in a participatory sensing campaign. For example, there are several possible routes from a participant’s home to her office, where a route can be seen as a set of space-temporal coordinates, and measurements can be taken at these coordinates. To coordinate participation routes to collect more valuable information with a limited number of participants,a further concept, informative participatory sensing(IPS) has been developed recently. However, existing IPS systems lack incentive mechanisms to fight against the strategic behaviours of self-interested ***, we propose a formal model of IPS where a service provider can coordinate individual schedules of self-interested participants. As the problem of informative path coordination is NP-hard, the well-known mechanism, Vickrey-Clarke-Groves(VCG) will be computationally inefficient to solve our problem. Given this, we design a sequentially sorting mechanism(SSM) for the model to allocate the schedules and determine the bonuses for these participants, and we then theoretically prove that SSM is computationally efficient,individually rational, profitable and truthful. Furthermore, we empirically evaluate our route allocation method in simulations and show that it significantly outperforms several benchmark approaches.
