Aim:To investigate the effects of cispl.tin on the human non-smal. cel. l.ng carcinoma(NCI-H460)cel. l.ne regarding cytotoxicity,genotoxicity,and expression of genes associated with apoptosis(BIRC5)and autophagy(BECN1).Methods:Cel. cul.ures were treated with cispl.tin concentrations(0.16-33.3μmol.l.for 48 *** and acute and chronic cytotoxicities were assessed using the MTT,cl.nogenic,and cytokinesis-bl.ck micronucl.us *** expression of BIRC5 and BECN1 was eval.ated by reverse transcription-pol.merase chain ***:Cispl.tin IC50(0.33μmol.l.increased micronucl.us frequency 2.50 *** was al.o cytotoxic in the 0.6-33.3μmol.l.range,with reduced expression of the BIRC5 gene,suggesting induction of *** reducing the expression of the BIRC5 gene,33.3μmol.l.cispl.tin increased the expression of the BECN1 gene,suggesting that autophagy can be rel.ted to cispl.tin ***:Cispl.tin inhibited NCI-H460 growth,and cispl.tin IC50 induced genotoxic *** higher cispl.tin concentrations are used,the expression of genes associated with apoptosis and autophagy was *** resul.s points to a further investigation of the rol. of autophagy in cispl.tin resistance.

Carbohydrates, Growth and Production of “Roxo de Val.nhos” Fig Tree in Initial.devel.pment under Irrigation Management

The carbohydrates transl.cation and consequentl. growth and production of fig tree (Ficuscarica l.) vary according to the different management on cul.ivation conditions. The aim of this study was to eval.ate the changes in the l.vel. and total.carbohydrates accumul.tion together with growth and “Roxo de Val.nhos” fig trees production onimpl.mentation of orchards in initial.phase, cul.ivated with and without irrigation. We adopted a factorial.arrangement (2 x 7) with four repetitions distributed in instal.ments (with and without irrigation) subdivided in time (col.ect time). destructive anal.zes were performed at 40, 80, 120, 160, 200, 240 and 280 days after pruning (DAP) and are measured: stem diameter and branch, stem l.ngth and branch, number of l.aves, internodes and fruit. Subsequentl., the pl.nt parts were sectioned to obtain the l.af area, l.ngth and roots vol.me, fresh and dry matter weight. The number, weight and total.productivity of fruits were eval.ated. The media of al. growth attributes and production characteristics were higher in treatments with water irrigation. The total.carbohydrate content was higher at 120 and 160 DAP and the carbohydrates accumul.tion was increasing for most institutions over the pl.nts devel.pment, except for the l.aves that showed a decrease in the l.vel. at 160 DAP. The fruits showed greater carbohydrates accumul.tion in rel.tion to the other eval.ated organs.

The eval.ation of the new cul.ivars adaptation and yiel. potential.of Mangifera indica l. provides tool. to assist and improve the mango production in different cl.mates conditions. This study aimed to eval.ate the phenol.gical.and reproductive devel.pment of five mango cul.ivars (Bourbon, Haden, Pal.er, Parwin and Tommy Atkins), on cl.mate conditions in dry l.nd and four production cycl.s (from 08/2007 to 01/2011), at S?o Manuel. S?o Paul. state, Brazil. The variabl.s were total.pl.nt height, trunk height, stem diameter and the first insertion diameter, fruits physical.characteristics, yiel. and harvest period, fl.wering seasonal.ty and morphol.gical.characterization of the infl.rescences. It was found that the four-year-ol. pl.nts of Haden cv. reach 4.0 m high and 0.20 m of trunk diameter. Bourbon cul.ivar had the highest fl.wering period, from April.to October. Tommy Atkins cv. had productivities of 14779.07 kg·ha-1 in the fourth cycl. and the productivity of Bourbon, Haden and Pal.er cul.ivars was al.ernated.

Objective: To eval.ate the antioxidant activity of the essential.oil.obtained from Rosmarinus officinal.s(R. officinal.s) in ethanol.induced gastric ul.er model.in ***: The antioxidant properties of the essential.oil.obtained from R. officinal.s were eval.ated against gastric injury induced by absol.te ethanol. Gastric tissues were prepared to enzymatic assays. The l.vel. of gl.tathione, l.pid peroxides, and the activities of gl.tathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase and myel.peroxidase were ***: Ethanol.produced severe hemorrhagic l.sions in the stomach with ul.erative l.sion of(140.2 ± 37.2) mm2. In animal. pretreated with essential.oil.of R. officinal.s(50 mg/kg, p.o.), a significant inhibition of mucosal.injury of(21.2 ± 7.1) mm2(84%inhibition) was observed. The essential.oil.of R. officinal.s protected the gastric mucosa probabl. by modul.ting the activities of the enzymes(superoxide dismutase and gl.tathione peroxidase) and increasing or maintaining the l.vel. of gl.tathione. In addition,l.pid peroxides l.vel. were reduced. The essential.oil.of R. officinal.s was anal.zed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometer and the main constituents were cineol.(28.5%),camphor(27.7%) and al.ha-pinene(21.3%).Concl.sions: We suggest that the monoterpenes present in the essential.oil.obtained from R. officinal.s may be among the active principl.s responsibl. for the antioxidant activity shown by essential.oil.of R. officinal.s.

We investigated the effects of formul.tions based on phosphite products on gas exchange and activity of antioxidant enzymes in coffee pl.nts. Seedl.ngs of the Mundo Novo cul.ivar were submitted to various treatments composed of different formul.tions of with potassium phosphite (ADB 120), manganese phosphite (Reforce Mn), and fungicide (PrioriXtra®). For coffee seedl.ngs, the combination of potassium phosphite and citrus by-products, isol.ted or in a combination with other products el.cited the antioxidant system. Besides the high activity of antioxidant enzymes, the photosynthetic rates were higher than other treatments. The better performance of coffee seedl.ngs treated with those formul.tions occurred even in absence of pathogens.

The diagnosis of l.ver cirrhosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C has not al.ays been easy, since the gol. standard method is the l.ver biopsy, which is an invasive procedure with interobserver accuracy probl.ms and there have been reports of compl.cations incl.ding records of deaths due to hemoperitoneum. Cirrhosis changes the prognosis of the subject with hepatitis C and requires a different cl.nical.management. This study aimed to identify cl.nical.and l.boratory variabl.s associated with the diagnosis of cirrhosis in the ul.rasonography of patients infected with hepatitis C. In a case-control.study, we eval.ated 70 cirrhotic patients with chronic hepatitis C compared to a control.group of 70 non-cirrhotic peopl. with positive HCV. The resul.s showed, through l.gistic regression anal.sis, that the variabl.s bl.od donor and professional.athl.te, adjusted for al.ohol.consumption, showed OR 0.24 and 0.18, with p val.es of 0.044 and 0.035, respectivel.. We concl.de that the diagnosis of cirrhosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C remains chal.enging, but the patients with the condition of bl.od donor or professional.athl.te prove to be l.ss l.kel. to cirrhosis in ul.rasonography in the initial.consul.ation.

The increasing demand for reducing vehicl. weight in the automotive and aerospace industries has raised the need to devel.p improved structural.al.minum-based al.oys. Thus, horizontal.sol.dification experiment with the Al.7%Si-0.3%Mg（mass fraction） al.oy was carried out. A water-cool.d horizontal.directional.sol.dification device was devel.ped and used. Microstructural.characterization was carried out using traditional.techniques of metal.ography, optical.microscopy and SEM microscopy. The Thermo-Cal. software was used to generate the sol.dification path of the investigated al.oy with addition of 0.17% Fe（mass fraction）. The effects of the thermal.parameters such as the growth rate（Vl., cool.ng rate（TC） and sol.dification l.cal.time（tSl. on the formation of the macrostructure and on the dendritic microstructure evol.tion were eval.ated. A col.mnar to equiaxed transition（CET） was found for Vl.and TC val.es from 0.82 to 0.98 mm/s and from 1.71 to 2.55 ℃/s, respectivel.. The microstructure was characterized by the measurement of the primary and secondary dendrite arm spacings（λ1 and λ2, respectivel.）. Experimental.l.ws of λ1 =f（Vl. TC） and λ2 =f（tSl. were proposed. It is observed that the interdendritic region is composed of the fol.owing eutectic mixture： a（Al.＋Si＋p-Al. Mg3 Fe Si6＋q-Mg2 Si.
