The grooved carpet-shell clam Ruditapes decussatus is native to the Northern Atlantic and mediterranean Sea and has a high commercial *** is one of the main native bivalve species cultured in *** main objective of the present study was to gain further insights into the immunological repertoire of *** through a transcriptomic *** mantle samples of eight *** individuals were sequenced using Illumina platform.A total of 67132 contigs with more than 800 bp were *** annotation of these contigs revealed 146 immune-related *** gene families in which the highest number of immune-related genes was observed were:C1q domain-containing proteins(63),tumor necrosis factors(15)and toll-like receptors(TLRs,10).A total of 5359 putative single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)were identified in the 146 immune-related *** density of SNPs ranged between 0.04 and 7.92 SNPs/100 *** highest and the lowest SNP density were observed in genes of the C1q domain-containing protein *** to the importance of TLRs in innate immunity,we focused our attention on these membrane *** TLRs were identified based on protein domain *** analysis revealed that *** TLRs were diverse and only 3 showed orthology with TLRs of known immune functions in other bivalve ***,our analysis suggests that lineage restricted-expansions of TLRs occurred in all mollusc taxa analysed including in venerids.

Water pollution caused by heavy metals ions has been gaining attention in recent years,increasing the interest in the development of methodologies for their efficient removal focusing on the adsorption process for these *** current challenge faced by adsorption processes is the adequate adsorbent immobilization for removal and ***,the present work aimed at producing a faujasite zeolite nanocomposite decorated with cobalt ferrite nanoparticles for Pb^2+ions adsorption in an aqueous medium improving magnetic removal and *** a result,a high surface area(434.4 m^2·g^-1)for the nanocomposite and an 18.93 emu·g^-1 saturation magnetization value were obtained,indicating magnetic removal in a promising material for adsorption *** nanocomposite regeneration capacity evaluated by magnetic recovery after 24 h suspension presented a high Pb^2+ion adsorptive capacity(98.4%)in the first *** 98%of the Pb^2+ions were adsorbed in the second *** this way,the synthesized faujasite:cobalt ferrite nanocomposite reveals itself as a promising alternative in adsorption processes,aiming at a synergic effect of FAU zeolite high adsorptive activity and the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles magnetic activity,allowing for adsorbent recovery from the aqueous medium via magnetic force and successive adsorptive cycles.

Aims In forests,the herbaceous understory vegetation plays an important role for ecosystem functioning as it represents a significant component of total aboveground *** addition,the herb layer contributes to overall forest species richness and controls tree species *** versa,trees in the overstory control understory herb and shrub growth through competition for *** an experimental forest plantation with manipulated tree richness,we asked to which degree tree species richness and identity affect herb layer composition,richness and productivity and how these relationships across strata change with abiotic environmental conditions and competition *** In the context of the Biodiversity-Ecosystem Functioning project in subtropical China(BEF-China),we made use of the integrated BEFmod experiment arranged along a tree species richness gradient at two sites,with additional subplot treatments of phosphorus addition,herb layer weeding and no *** recorded the understory vegetation and determined herb layer biomass production on a total of 201 *** Findings We found only minor effects of tree layer richness on herb layer species composition and no significant effect on herb layer richness or productivity ***,there were strong tree layer identity effects on all response variables,which were partly explained by differences in leaf area index and by a high share of woody species both in total herb layer species richness and *** were strong treatment effects,which were largest in the‘no weeding’treatment but we did not find any treatment×tree layer richness interaction in herb layer ***,these effects are mainly explained by increased competition intensity within the herb layer in the absence of *** the young age of the experiment,the interactions between tree species identity,tree richness and the herb layer did already emerge and can be expected to become stronger with

Community phylogenetic diversity and abiotic site characteristics influence abundance of the invasive plant Rhamnus cathartica L.

Small-scale genotypic richness stabilizes plot biomass and increases phenotypic variance in the invasive grass Phalaris arundinacea

Long-term irritable bowel syndrome symptom control with reintroduction of selected FODmAPs

To investigate the long-term effect of dietary education on a low fermentable oligosaccharide, disaccharide and polyol (FODmAP) diet on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms and quality of life (QoL). mETHODSParticipants with IBS (Rome III) were randomized to two groups. Group I commenced a low FODmAP diet at baseline. At three months, group II, so far a comparator group, crossed over to a low FODmAP diet while group I started re-challenging foods. All patients completed the IBS SSS (IBS symptom severity scoring system, 0-500 points increasing with severity), IBS QoL questionnaire (0-100 increasing with QoL), a FODmAP specific food frequency questionnaire and provided a stool sample at baseline, three and six months for microbiome analysis. RESULTSFifty participants were enrolled into group I (n = 23) or group II (n = 27). Participants in both groups were similar in baseline values but with more men in group I. There was a significantly lower IBS SSS (275.6 ± 63.6 to 128.8 ± 82.5 vs 246.8 ± 71.1 to 203.6 ± 70.1) (P mo. The reduced IBS SSS was sustained at 6 mo in group I (160 ± 102) and replicated in group II (124 ± 76). Fiber intake decreased on the low FODmAP diet (33 ± 17 g/d to 21 ± 8 g/d) (P mAP containing foods increased again to 27 ± 9 g/d. There was no change seen in the intestinal microbiome when participants adopted a low FODmAP diet. CONCLUSIONThis study demonstrated that a reduction in FODmAPs improves symptoms in IBS and this improvement can be maintained while reintroducing FODmAPs.

The recently proposed concept of graphene photodetectors offers remarkable properties such as unprecedented compactness,ultrabroadband detection,and an ultrafast response ***,owing to the low optical absorption of pristine monolayer graphene,the intrinsically low responsivity of graphene photodetectors significantly hinders the development of practical *** address this issue,numerous efforts have thus far been made to enhance the light–graphene interaction using plasmonic *** approaches,however,can be significantly advanced by leveraging the other critical aspect of graphene photoresponsivity enhancement-electrical junction *** has been reported that the dominant photocarrier generation mechanism in graphene is the photothermoelectric(PTE)***,the two energy conversion mechanisms involved in the graphene photodetection process are light-to-heat and heat-to-electricity *** this work,we propose a meticulously designed device architecture to simultaneously enhance the two conversion ***,a gap plasmon structure is used to absorb a major portion of the incident light to induce localized heating,and a pair of split gates is used to produce a p-n junction in graphene to augment the PTE current *** gap plasmon structure and the split gates are designed to share common key components so that the proposed device architecture concurrently realizes both optical and electrical *** experimentally demonstrate the dominance of the PTE effect in graphene photocurrent generation and observe a 25-fold increase in the generated photocurrent compared to the un-enhanced *** further photocurrent enhancement can be achieved by applying a DC bias,the proposed device concept shows vast potential for practical applications.

PI 3-kinase pathway is responsible for antiapoptotic effects of atrial natriuretic peptide in rat liver transplantation

AIm： To investigate the in vivo effect of atrial natriuretic peptide （ANP） and its signaling pathway during orthotopic rat liver transplantation.mETHODS： Rats were infused with NaCI, ANP （5 μg/ kg）, wortmannin （WH, 16μg/kg）, or a combination of both for 20 min. Livers were stored in UW solution （4℃） for 24 h, transplanted and reperfused. Apoptosis was examined by caspase-3 activity and TUNEL staining. Phosphorylation of Akt and Bad was visualized by Western blotting and phospho-Akt-localization by confocal microscopy.RESULTS： ANP-pretreatment decreased caspase-3 activity and TUNELopositive cells after cold ischemia, indicating antiapoptotic effects of ANP in vivo. The an- tiapoptotic signaling of ANP was most likely caused by phosphorylation of Akt and Bad, since pretreatment with PI 3-kinase inhibitor Wm abrogated the ANP-induced reduction of caspase-3 activity. Interestingly, analysis of liver tissue by confocal microscopy showed translocation of phosphorylated Akt to the plasma membrane of hepa- tocytes evoked by ANP.CONCLUSION： ANP activates the PI-3-kinase pathway in the liver in vivo leading to phosphorylation of Bad an event triggering antiapoptotic signaling cascade in ischemic liver.

The photorespiratory pathway or photorespiration is an essential process in oxygenic photosynthetic or- ganisms, which can reduce the efficiency of photosynthetic carbon assimilation and is hence frequently considered as a wasteful process. By comparing the response of the wild-type plants and mutants impaired in photorespiration to a shift in ambient C02 concentrations, we demonstrate that photorespiration also plays a beneficial role during short-term acclimation to reduced C02 availability. The wild-type plants re- sponded with few differentially expressed genes, mostly involved in drought stress, which is likely a conse- quence of enhanced opening of stomata and concomitant water loss upon a shift toward low C02. In contrast, mutants with impaired activity of photorespiratory enzymes were highly stressed and not able to adjust stomatal conductance to reduced external C02 availability. The transcriptional response of mutant plants was congruent, indicating a general reprogramming to deal with the consequences of reduced C02 availability, signaled by enhanced oxygenation of ribulose-l,5-bisphosphate and amplified by the artificially impaired photorespiratory metabolism. Central in this reprogramming was the pro- nounced reallocation of resources from growth processes to stress responses. Taken together, our results indicate that unrestricted photorespiratory metabolism is a prerequisite for rapid physiological acclimation to a reduction in C02 availability.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the post-Soviet area moved fi＇om the periphery of the world economy into a new centre of political and economic influence. Today, the concept of pragmatic （economic） Eurasianism by N. Nazarbayev plays a paramount role in the development of integration processes in Eurasia. One of the newest initiatives of Eurasian integration is the Eurasian Economic Union （EAEU）, which functions today in a five-side format, comprising Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia. However, conflict of interests, differential economic development among member states, and institutional problems often complicate the various processes of integration. On the other hand, with measures like harmonizing of national legislations, improved communication between countries at all levels, unification of trade policies, and enhanced control over domestic market in place, the EAEU countries also represent the newest competitive players in the world arena.
