Online monitoring of chemical reactions by using analytical chemistry tools is a powerful way to maximize control over these *** this paper,we demonstrate the use of molecular rotational resonance,an emerging and extraordinarily selective spectroscopic technique,to perform automated reaction monitoring *** interface using a six-port valve with a calibrated sample loop,coupled to a temperature controlled inlet for analyte volatilization,was developed and *** reactions were chosen for initial characterization:an amine-aldehyde condensation reaction to form an imine product and an isotopic exchange reaction of aβ-ketoester with keto-enol *** spectrometer was able to provide kinetic information about the reaction and determine reaction *** the future,this system can be extended to detect and quantify impurities and characterize reaction selectivity,in addition to the reaction progress.

We introduce a programmable eight-port interferometer with the recently proposed error-tolerant architecture capable of performing a broad class of *** interferometer has been fabricated with femtosecond laser writing,and it is the largest programmable interferometer of this kind to *** have demonstrated its advantageous error tolerance by showing an operation in a broad wavelength range from 920 to 980 nm,which is particularly relevant for quantum photonics due to efficient photon sources existing in this wavelength *** work highlights the importance of developing novel architectures of programmable photonics for information processing.

Realising the importance of pore fluid salinity on the dewatering behaviour of fine-grained porous systems,the present study systematically investigated such impacts on temporal moisture dynamics of kaolin subjected to evaporative dewatering.A detailed discussion is provided pertaining to the background processes dictating evaporative dewatering response and corresponding alterations in the dielectric behaviour of *** dependent dielectric spectra of soil,which can be considered as the fingerprint of the transient changes in the condition of water phase within the pore system of the soil and associated densification,are monitored in real time during dewatering using an open-ended coaxial probe with a vector network *** spatial sensitivity of the coaxial probe has been quantified through layered media *** the results of volume change behaviour of the material along with its moisture loss response,the study characterised the hydro-mechanical response of the material from the windows of frequency dependent dielectric spectroscopy.

Disaster-hit and/or un-electrifed remote areas usually have electricity accessibility issues and an abundance of plant-derived debris and wood from destroyed wooden structures;this can be potentially addressed by employing a decentralized ultrasmall biomass-fed gasifcation power generating *** paper presents an assessment of the technical viability of an ultra-small gasifcation system that utilizes densifed carbonized wood pellets/*** setup was run continuously for 100 h.A variety of biomass was densifed and carbonized by harnessing fugitive heat sources before charging into the *** briquettes and furnished blends exhibited inferior gasifcation performance compared to the carbonized *** the absence of tar blockage problems,steady-state conditions were achieved when pre-treated feedstock was *** steady-state conditions for carbonized pellets gasifcation operated at an equivalence ratio of 0.32,cold gas efciency and carbon conversion achieved 49.2%and 70.5%,*** efciency and maximum power output of 20.3%and 21 kW were realised,*** was found that the system could keep stable while the low heating valve of syngas was over 4 MJ/m^(3)on condition that avoiding tar blocking *** results indicate that the proposed compact ultra-small power generation system is a technically feasible approach to remedy power shortage *** addition,process simulation considering carbonized wood gasifcation combined power generation was formulated to produce syngas and *** pellets with the fow rate of 20 kg/h could generate a 15.18 kW power at the air fow rate of 40 Nm^(3)/h,which is in a good agreement with 15 kW in the 100 h *** is indicated that the gasifcation combined power generation cycle simulated by Aspen simulator could achieve reliable data to assist the complicated experiment operation.

There are limited drought studies for the Caribbean. This is concerning since drought is not only one of the most devastating disasters in the region, but it is also one of the least understood disasters. Very few papers analyze new ways to identify and monitor this disaster. Another major arguable gap in research is the Caribbean’s sole focus on the meteorological drought and disregard of the agricultural drought. This is an important omission because of the significant negative impacts drought has on the Caribbean occurs in the agricultural and forestry sectors. Not considering this in drought monitoring systems in the Caribbean means that a major part of the phenomena is overlooked. Therefore, this study has focused on bridging this gap. It has sought to establish a system to strengthen drought’s early warning. To accomplish this, three predetermined conditions of drought, precipitation, land surface temperature and vegetation conditions were used to derive the Standard Precipitation Index (SPI), the Temperature Condition Index (TCI) and the Vegetation Condition Index (VCI), in order to analyze drought conditions. The drought vulnerability map found that the SPI, TCI and VCI all correlated with past drought events. The study also produced an agricultural drought map. This study, therefore, aims to build resilience by providing accurate information on the duration, intensity and spatial variability of droughts in Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

The Principles of Insulin Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Insulin therapy is an integral part of the pharmacological management of Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Guidelines recommended insulin therapy for those patients with suboptimal glycaemic control despite optimal medical treatments. Studies show that insulin therapy with the human and regular insulins improve glycaemic control, reduce the chronic complications, and inevitably improve patient’s quality of life. The new analogue insulin has a better safety profile and efficacies, and has been shown to achieve better outcomes and patient’s acceptability compared with the human and regular insulins. The diabetic guidelines also recommend the intensity of insulin therapy in a personalised glycaemic control strategy based on the patient’s profiles and their preferences. However, the guidelines do not recommend any standardised approach to the principles of insulin initiation, titration, and monitoring. This review summarises the essential principles of insulin initiation, titration, and monitoring in Type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Cybersecurity is increasing its significance in recent years due to the overwhelming use of devices which require the use of internet. This raises the importance of having cybersecurity training for the upcoming generations as hackers continue to upgrade their methodologies and techniques to obtain important information such as personal identification, credit card numbers etcetera. This paper describes the development of a platform for students to learn how to setup and use a Network Intrusion Detection System in a virtual environment. In this environment, the administrator of a specific system can monitor and detect their network for any malicious activity. We will discuss in this paper the network configuration setup via virtualization technology followed by having a Network Intrusion Detection System installed in one of the virtual machines port mirrored to monitor the whole network. In the virtual network, a virtual machine will be assigned as an attacker to simulate cyber-attacks allowing the Network Intrusion Detection System to detect the Internet Protocol (IP) address from the source of malicious activity provider. In addition, students will have the opportunity to learn how to write basic rules for the Network Intrusion Detection System which are algorithms used to detect cyber malicious movements.

This work was undertaken to study the hydrogeophysical characteristics of Umuahia and environs,ImoRiver Basinusing geophysical data. Thirty (30) vertical electrical sounding data with a maximum electrode spacing of (AB/2) of 500 meters were acquired using the Schlumberger electrode configuration. The VES data were interpreted using the conventional partial curve matching technique to obtain initial model parameters, which were used as input for computer iterative modelling using the OFFIX software. The study revealed three (3) to six (6) geo-electric layers with underlying shale beds. Aquifer apparent resistivity in the study area ranges from about 50 to 850 Ωm with the aquifer depth varying between 0.53 - 82.67 m. Similarly, the aquifer thickness in the study area ranges from 0.8 - 110 m, with very low thicknesses around Ajata Ibeku. These shallow aquifers with very small thicknesses in the western areas around Ajata Ibeku are believed to be perched or fractured shale units with very low or no yield. Finally, transverse resistances in the study area range from 200 - 3400 Ωm2 with low values in the western part. Information extracted from iso-resistivity models, geoelectric cross sections, litho logs and electric logs revealed a sandy clay lithology at very shallow depths with a thick layer of shale/clay extending to over 300 m within the western part. These shallow aquiferous units are however perched, partially saturated and may not have sufficient yield. Finally, this study has helped to delineate the aquifers of the study into two distinct zones, thus revealing a groundwater divide.
