Determination of the Lunar g.ound Characteristics Using.Bistatic Radar

At present, an investig.tion of the lunar g.ound at g.eat depths is of paramount importance. This investig.tion can be carried out using.decameter and meter waves. This article aims to analyze the variations of the reflectioncoefficient?at?decametric,?meter and decimeteric bands.?A?possibility of determination?of lunar g.ound characteristics by bistatic radar using.powerful g.ound-based transmitters?at VHF and UHF bands and a receiver aboard a?Moon’s satellite?is analysed. Appropriate alg.rithms are considered for determinationof the reg.lith layer thickness,?dielectric permittivity, loss tang.nt, and density of the reg.lith and bedrocks. Expected results of measurements have been presented for a two-layer model of lunar g.ound, consisting.of an upper layer with the loose porous rocks (reg.lith), and the rocks situated more deeply. Revealed reg.larities are a basis for determining.the distribution of the permittivity in subsurface layer.
