AIM To evaluate the increase in diagnostic yield, by using IgA in addition to IgM, instead of IgM alone, in relation to the age of the *** The study considered 1067 blood samples from patients with clinical signs of lower respiratory tract infections, tested for anti-Mycoplasma IgG, IgM and IgA *** The increase in diagnostic yield with IgA, compared to IgM detection alone was of 3.5% with statistically significant differences between age groups(0.8% for those equal/under 50 years of age and 4.3% for those over 50).CONCLUSION Our findings demonstrate that IgA detection lead to a twofold increase in the number of diagnoses among the older age groups, but it did not result in relevant increase among the younger age groups.

In the present study, we investigated the effect of cerium and erbium doping of the zirconium dioxide matrix. We synthesized doped samples using hydrothermal process. The amounts of dopant used were 0.5%, 1% and 5% molar(rare earth oxide over zirconium dioxide) respectively. The samples have been studied via X-ray Diffraction measurements for the structural characterization. UV visible diffuse reflectance was used for the optical analysis, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET) model for the measurement of the surface area. Finally the samples have been analysed via electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR) for the electronic characterization. Then we tested the new synthetized materials to determine their photocatalytic activity in the reaction of degradation of methylene blue performed under irradiation by diodes(LEDs) emitting exclusively visible light.

The digital transformation taking place in all areas of life has led to a massive increase in digital data–in particular,related to the places where and the ways how we *** facilitate an exploration of the new opportunities arising from this development the Urban Thematic Exploitation Platform(U-TEP)has been *** enabling instrument represents a virtual environment that combines open access to multisource data repositories with dedicated data processing,analysis and visualisation ***,it includes mechanisms for the development and sharing of technology and *** an introduction of the underlying methodical concept,this paper introduces four selected use cases that were carried out on the basis of U-TEP:two technology-driven applications implemented by users from the remote sensing and software engineering community(generation of cloud-free mosaics,processing of drone data)and two examples related to concrete use scenarios defined by planners and decision makers(data analytics related to global urbanization,monitoring of regional land-use dynamics).The experiences from U-TEP’s pre-operations phase show that the system can effectively support the derivation of new data,facts and empirical evidence that helps scientists and decision-makers to implement improved strategies for sustainable urban development.

Introduction: The Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT) is an inexpensive method to objectively evaluate physical capacity or limitation and stratify prognosis in patients with Heart Failure (HF). Since the clinical perception of symptoms may be adapted or compromised, regular evaluation from medical interviews often fails to determine functional classification. This study aimed to assess the correlation between New York Heart Association Functional Class (NYHA-FC) and the distance walked in the 6MWT. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional observational study that included patients with HF with reduced ejection fraction followed up at an outpatient service of a teaching hospital, from August 2018 to April 2019. Patients in NYHA-FC I, II, or III were included. We compared NYHA-FC subjectively obtained during the consultation with the 6MWT performed after medical consultation, and the correlation between these two parameters was assessed. Results: The study included 70 patients with HF, 41 (58.6%) of whom were female. The mean age was 61.2 ± 12.7 years. The most prevalent etiologies were dilated idiopathic cardiomyopathy (35.7%) followed by ischemic cardiomyopathy (25.7%). The mean ejection fraction was 34.1% ± 9.8%. The average distance walked in the 6MWT by NYHA-FC I patients was 437.8 ± 95.8 meters, NYHA-FC II 360.1 ± 96.4, and NYHA-FC III 248.4 ± 98.3. Functional class measured by the 6MWT was different than that estimated by NYHA-FC in 34 patients (48.6%), 23 (32.9%) for a higher functional class and 11 (15.7%) for a lower one (p = 0.07). Pearson’s correlation coefficient between NYHA-FC and the 6MWT was -0.55. Conclusion: There was a moderate correlation between the subjective NYHA-FC and the 6MWT. The 6MWT revealed a different classification from NYHA-FC in almost half of the patients. Among those who presented discrepancies between methods, 6MWT reclassification towards a higher functional class was more common.

Given the increasing complexity of cancer care,multidisciplinary tumor boards have become essential in daily clinical oncology *** Project Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes(ECHO)initiative developed an innovative telementoring model using a"hub and spoke"design consisting of a team of experts(hub)that offers a full service to multiple participants(the spokes)during regularly scheduled sessions discussing patients'clinical *** Alexander Fleming Cancer Institute in Buenos Aires was the first hub in Latin America to implement Project ECHO for gastrointestinal *** our 3-year experience,80 patients from 37 centers were evaluated within Project ECHO and a range of three to five cases were discussed in each *** our perspective,the impact of this novel approach was a remarkable strategy to reduce care disparities by equalizing access to high-quality medical knowledge in a multidisciplinary environment for medical ***,it was shown to have a cost-effective impact directly on the patients and the local health system,since relevant costs were saved after unnecessary treatments,studies and travel expenses were avoided.

Background and Purpose:To determine the relationship between ulceration, thro mbus, and calcification of carotid artery atherosclerotic plaques and symptoms o f ipsilateral or contralateral stroke. Methods:We compared microscopic plaque m orphology from patients with and without stroke symptoms ipsilateral or contrala teral to the plaque. Plaques were characterized for ulceration, thrombus, and ca lcification. We analyzed plaques from 241 subjects: 170 patients enrolled in the Asymptomatic Carotid Atherosclerosis Study (ACAS) and 71 patients enrolled in t he North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial (NASCET); 128 subject s had no history of stroke symptoms, 80 subjects had ipsilateral symptoms, and 3 3 had contralateral symptoms. Results:Plaque ulceration was more common in plaq ues taken from symptomatic patients than those without symptoms (36%versus 14% ; P < 0.001); frequency of ulceration was similar for plaques associated with ip silateral(34%) and contralateral (42%) symptoms. Thrombus was most common in p laques taken from patients with both ipsilateral symptoms and ulceration. The ex tent of calcification was unassociated with stroke symptoms. Conclusion:Carotid plaque ulceration and thrombosis are more prevalent in symptomatic patients. Ul ceration is more common in symptomatic patients regardless of side of carotid sy mptoms, whereas thrombus is associated with ipsilateral symptoms and plaque ulce *** identification of carotid ulceration and thrombus should lea d to greater efficacy of stroke prevention by carotid endarterectomy.
