Methane from enteric fermentation is the gas with the greatest environmental impact emitted by ***(Lv)addition to feedstocks could be a strategy to mitigate rumen methane emissions via decreasing the population of methanogenic archaea(MA).Thus,this paper provides the first overview of the effects of Lv supplementation,focusing on the inhibition of methane production,rumen microbiota,and ruminal *** indicated that Lv treatment had a strong anti-methanogenic effect on pure strains of ***,there are uncertainties from in vitro rumen fermentation trials with complex substrates and rumen ***-state fermentation(SSF)has emerged as a cost-effective option to produce *** this way,SSF of agricultural residues as an Lv-carrier supplement in sheep and goats demonstrated a consistent decrease in ruminal methane *** experimental evidence for in vitro conditions showed that Lv did not affect the volatile fatty acids(VFA).However,in vivo experiments demonstrated that the production of VFA was *** did not negatively affect the digestibility of dry matter during in vitro and in vivo methods,and there is even evidence that it can induce an increase in *** the rumen microbiota,populations of MA were reduced,and no differences were detected in alpha and beta diversity associated with Lv ***,some changes in the relative abundance of the microbiota were *** studies are recommended on:(i)Lv biodegradation products and stability,as well as its adsorption onto the solid matter in the rumen,to gain more insight on the“available”or effective Lv concentration;and(ii)to determine whether the effect of Lv on ruminal fermentation also depends on the feed composition and different ruminants.

This work was carried out to evaluate the insecticidal effect of mono,bi and trimetallic nanoparticles(NPs)from leaf extract of habanero pepper(Capsicum chinense Jacq.)on the red flour beetle(Tribolium castaneum herbst.)and cotton mealybug(Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley).The results showed that Cu NPs,Cu/Mn NPs and Zn/Cu NPs had high insecticidal effect against ***(63%-80% mortality after 96 h).The Cu NPs and Zn/Cu NPs showed also insecticidal effect against ***,but to a lesser extent(20%–28% after 96 h).With regards to the physicochemical characterization,Cu NPs had a zeta potential of 21.1 mV,whereas Cu/Mn NPs and Zn/Cu NPs exhibited zeta potentials of 200 *** polydispersity index(PDI)values for Cu NPs,Cu/Mn NPs,and Zn/Cu NPs were 10.1,29.16,and 14.34,*** TF-IR spectra of the NPs varied from 600 to 4000 cm−*** EDX weight percentages showed the presence of Cu(0.29%–2.4%),Mn(1.4%),and Zn(2.6%)in Cu/Mn NPs and Zn/Cu NPs,respectively.

Sow performance in response to natural betaine fed during lactation and post-weaning during summer and non-summer months

Background: Two studies were conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary natural betaine on sow reproductive performance during summer(Exp. 1) and non-summer months(Exp. 2). Treatments were designed as a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement with factors including dietary betaine(0 or 0.2%) and period of supplementation(lactation or post-weaning until 35 days post-insemination). In Exp. 1, 322 and 327 sows and in Exp. 2, 300 and 327 sows representing young(parity 1 and 2) and mature(parity 3 to 6) sows, respectively, were ***: In Exp. 1, supplementation of betaine during lactation increased sow body weight losses(-11.95 vs.-14.63 kg;P = 0.024), reduced feed intake(4.12 vs. 4.28 kg/d;P = 0.052), and tended to reduce percentage of no-value pigs(P = 0.071). Betaine fed post-weaning reduced weaning-to-estrus interval(5.75 vs. 6.68 days;P = 0.054) and farrowing rate(86.74% vs. 91.36%;P = 0.060), regardless of parity group. Post-hoc analysis with sows clustered into 3 parity groups(1, 2 and 3, and 4+) indicated that betaine fed in lactation to parity 4+ sows(P = 0.026) and betaine fed post-weaning to parity 1 sows increased the number of pigs born in the subsequent cycle(P ≤ 0.05). In Exp. 2, betaine fed during lactation tended to reduce the weaning-to-estrus interval(6.64 vs. 7.50 days;P = 0.077) and farrowing rate(88.23% vs.83.54%;P = 0.089), regardless of parity group. Feeding betaine post-weaning reduced number of pigs born(13.00 vs.13.64;P = 0.04) and pigs born alive(12.30 vs. 12.82;P = 0.075), regardless of parity ***: Using 0.2% betaine during the non-summer months did not benefit sow performance. During the summer, betaine supplementation in lactation increased subsequent litter size in parity 4+ sows. Betaine fed during the post-weaning period reduced the wean-to-estrus interval and farrowing rate, increased total number of pigs born for parity 1 sows and reduced total number of pigs born to parity 4+ sows. AIM: To study the structure-activity relationship of alkyl 9-nitrocamptothecin esters. METHODS: Two alkyl 9-nitrocamptothecin (9NC) esters 5g and 5h were prepared by esterification reactions of 9NC with valeric anhydride and heptanoic anhydride, respectively. Eight 9NC esters 5a-5h were tested for cytotoxicity against human leukemia cell lines HL-60 and U-937. Flow cytometry analysis was used to identify the cell cycle phase targeted by the esters and quantify the extent of ester-induced cell death (apoptosis). RESULTS: Esters 5b and 5c demonstrated great abilities to inhibit growth of the leukemia cells followed by induction of apoptosis; esters 5a, 5e, and 5g induced slight perturbations in the cell cycle at high concentrations; and esters 5d, 5f, and 5h were completely inactive against the cell lines tested. Thus these esters showed the cell anti-proliferative activity in an order of 5b≈5c>5a≈5e≈5g>5d≈5f≈5h. Esters 5b, 5c, and 5e were tested in vivo against various human carcinomas in nude mice grown as xenografts. Only 5b and 5c showed a significant antitumor activity. Particularly, ester 5b demonstrated an antitumor activity against a broad spectrum of human carcinomas including breast, lung, colon, pancreas, stomach, ovarian, and melanoma, etc. CONCLUSION: These esters act like prodrugs of their parental 9-nitrocamptothecin. High drug doses need to be administered to animals in order to inhibit growth, and induce regression, of human tumor xenografts in nude mice. These compounds may be developed into potent anticancer drugs due to their low toxicity.

BACKgROUND Endoscopic resection of non-invasive lesions is now the standard of care for lesions in the gI ***,resection techniques require extensive training,are not available in all endoscopy centers and are prone to *** mucosal ablation(EMA)is a combination of resection and ablation techniques and it may offer an alternative in the management of such *** SUMMARY In this case series we report the successful treatment of three flat colonic polyps using the EMA *** lesions were treatment naïve and 1 was a recurrence after an endoscopic mucosal *** sizes ranged from 2 to 4 *** three polyps were ablated successfully with no immediate or delayed *** recurrence rate at 1 year of follow up was 0%.CONCLUSION Based on this initial experience,we conclude that EMA is a safe and effective technique for the treatment of non-invasive colonic polyps when endoscopic resection techniques are not available.

More than 670 million cases of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)have been recorded worldwide in the 3 years since the start of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)*** 45%of survivors of COVID-19 develop a syndrome known as long-term COVID,in which symptoms persist even months after the acute *** 76%of patients with long COVID experience neurological ***,patients who have survived COVID-19 have an increased risk of cerebral venous *** case report describes a 41-year-old woman who developed neurological manifestations associated with jugular vein thrombosis 24 h after administration of the Oxford–AstraZeneca(ChAdOx1 nCoV-19)vaccine(AstraZeneca-Serum Institute of India).She had been infected with SARS-CoV-2 three months before *** initially suspected to be a case of vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia(VITT)in view of her recent vaccination,the patient did not have any hallmarks of VITT,such as thrombocytopenia,an increased D-dimer level,or antibodies against platelet ***,the neurological manifestations were associated with a high concentration of inflammatory cytokines,including interleukin(IL)-6,IL-17A,and IL-21,and elevated neutrophil levels in cerebrospinal fluid,suggesting that inflammatory immune components had a role in the development of thrombotic events and pointing to an alternative *** this case,the laboratory results indicated that the neurological manifestations associated with jugular vein thrombosis were not associated with ***,we propose that the thrombosis of the left jugular vein was a sequela of SARS-CoV-2 infection.
