PET/CT and Hypo-Fractionated Radiotherapy of Patients with Head and Neck Cancer

Positron emission tomography/Computer tomography (PET/CT) is a multimodality imaging diagnostic technique that analyzes the uptake and retention of different radiopharmaceuticals by cells providing metabolic information on biochemical processes. PET/CT has been used for radiotherapy planning, providing useful information to the Radio-oncologist about the localization, size and metabolic activity of tumor lesions. In this paper, we show advantages of the 18F-FDG PET/CT respect to simple CT imaging for target volume delineation in patients with diagnosis of Squamous Head and Neck Carcinoma that has been scheduled to undergo a hypofractionated radiotherapy treatment. On ten studied patients, the target volume defined from PET/CT images was less extensive than those defined from simple CT images. In six patients the target volume was significantly less extensive and in two of them a new lymph node disease was reported, re-staging and corresponding target volume was also delineated with less extensive margins from PET/CT images. A greater accuracy in delineating the volumes and improving the distribution of doses in the planning of the radiant treatment in these patients was possible, allowing a high precision in the delivery of the prescribed dose to the target volume diminishing the maximum dose to the adjacent healthy tissues. In conclusion we show that the use of 18F-FDG PET/CT was superior than the simple CT as the primary modality of imaging for hypofractioned radiotherapy treatment planning in patients with Squamous Head and Neck Carcinoma.

The recovery of yttrium is proposed by applying a solid-liquid extraction process using di-2-ethyl hexylphosphoric acid(D2EHPA) as extracting *** extracting agents were supported on a macro porous polymeric resin XAD-7(solid phase).Yttrium ions extraction and discharge tests were performed,firstly from a synthetic aqueous solution of 100 mg/L Y(liquid phase) at 25℃ with *** effects of pH of aqueous solutions bearing yttrium,volume fraction of extracting agents and the solid/liquid(S/L)ratio on the yttrium recovery were *** most favorable conditions for yttrium ions extraction are;20 vol% D_(2)EHPA functionalized resin,pH=1.5 and an S/L ratio of 10 mg/mL The discharge of yttrium ions was done under the same conditions of extraction stage,using a 2 mol/L [H_(2)SO_(4)] as stripping *** to 80% yttrium is extracted,while 75% yttrium is recovered in the striping *** all experiments,the reaction equilibrium is reached after 20 min,and the kinetics for the extraction stage was determined as a second-order ***,experiments were carried out to discharge the yttriumloaded resins,and it has been determined that the best pH value to strip the Y ions is *** tests of extraction and discharge for yttrium ions show that the functionalized resin can work at least five cycles without decreasing its ***,the proposed process was tested in a real solution with Y ions fro m a waste fluorescent la mp powder leached in H_(2)SO_(4),demonstrating the ability to effectively recover yttrium,separating it from various metals from the studied residue.

The increasing anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases(GHG)is encouraging extensive research in CO_(2)*** reforming of methane(DRM)depicts a viable strategy to convert both CO_(2)and CH4into syngas,a worthwhile chemical *** the different active phases for DRM,the use of nickel as catalyst is economically favourable,but typically deactivates due to sintering and carbon *** stabilisation of Ni at different loadings in cerium zirconate inorganic complex structures is investigated in this work as strategy to develop robust Ni-based DRM *** and TPR-H2analyses confirmed the existence of different phases according to the Ni loading in these ***,superficial Ni is observed as well as the existence of a CeNiO_(3)perovskite *** catalytic activity was tested,proving that 10 wt.%Ni loading is the optimum which maximises *** catalyst was also tested in long-term stability experiments at 600and 800℃in order to study the potential deactivation issues at two different *** 600℃,carbon formation is the main cause of catalytic deactivation,whereas a robust stability is shown at 800℃,observing no sintering of the active phase evidencing the success of this strategy rendering a new family of economically appealing CO_(2)and biogas mixtures upgrading catalysts.

Background: The collapse of the alveolar ridge in an edentulous area in patients who will undergo oral rehabilitation impedes the harmonic relationship between pontic and ridge. To correct this type of defect there are several surgical techniques that aim to achieve soft tissue augmentation, allowing the conformation of an ideal profile with the use of a pontic. The aim was to demonstrate how the technique of tissue modification in an area with a class b defect of Allen allows the correction of aesthetics in the anterior dental sector. Case presentation: A 41-year-old Mexican woman. Extra and intraoral examination was performed, the dental treatment included connective tissue graft and rehabilitation with Zirconia. Conclusion: Surgery of residual alveolar ridge augmentation with connective tissue graft gives the patient favorable aesthetic results in the anterior area when it will be rehabilitated.

Analysis of the postoperative hemostatic profile of colorectal cancer patients subjected to liver metastasis resection surgery

BACKGROUND Liver resection surgery has advanced greatly in recent years,and the adoption of fasttrack programs has yielded good *** anesthesia (general anesthesia associated to epidural analgesia) is an anesthetic-analgesic strategy commonly used for the perioperative management of patients undergoing surgery of this kind,though there is controversy regarding the coagulation alterations it may cause and which can favor the development of spinal *** To study the postoperative course of liver resection surgery,an analysis was made of the outcomes of liver resection surgery due to colorectal cancer metastases in our centre in terms of morbiditymortality and hospital stay according to the anesthetic technique used (general vs combination anesthesia).METHODS A prospective study was made of 61 colorectal cancer patients undergoing surgery due to liver metastases under general and combination anesthesia between January 2014 and October *** patient characteristics,intraoperative variables,postoperative complications,evolution of hemostatic parameters,and stay in intensive care and in hospital were *** A total of 61 patients were included in two homogeneous groups: general anesthesia (n = 30) and combination anesthesia (general anesthesia associated to epidural analgesia)(n = 31).All patients had normal coagulation values before *** international normalized ratio (INR) in both the general and combination anesthesia groups reached maximum values at 2448 h (mean 1.37 and 1.45 vs 1.39 and 1.41,respectively),followed by a gradual *** was less intraoperative bleeding in the combination anesthesia group (769 mL) than in the general anesthesia group (1200 mL)(P < 0.05).Of the 61 patients,38.8% in the general anesthesia group experienced some respiratory complication vs 6.6% in the combination anesthesia group (P < 0.001).The time to gastrointestinal tolerance was significantly correlated to the type of anesthesia,though

Association between lifestyle factors and thyroid function in young euthyroid adults

Purpose:The present work examines the associations of dietary habits,sedentarism,physical activity(PA)levels and sleep habits,with thyroid function in young euthyroid ***:A total of 105 young euthyroid adults participated in this cross-sectional *** function was determined in fasting conditions(>6 h).Dietary habits were measured by a food frequency questionnaire and three non-consecutive 24 h recalls,and different dietary intake and patterns were then *** time spent in sedentary,PA levels and sleep habits were objectively measured using a wrist-worn ***:Energy and carbohydrate intake were positively associated with thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH)(β=0.222;R^(2)=0.102;P=0.022 andβ=0.425;R^(2)=0.129;P=0.007,respectively)whereas fat intake was negatively associated with TSH(β=-0.428;R^(2)=0.137;P=0.004).Energy intake was also positively associated with free triiodothyronine(β=0.277;R^(2)=0.137;P=0.004).Further,adherence to the Mediterranean diet was negatively related to TSH and free thyroxine(FT4)(β=-0.221;R^(2)=0.113;P=0.020 andβ=-0.268;R^(2)=0.071;P=0.007,respectively).Vigorous-intensity and overall PA were negatively associated with FT4(β=-0.227;R^(2)=0.052;P=0.022 andβ=-0.204;R^(2)=0.042;P=0.041,respectively).In contrast,no associations were found between sleep parameters and thyroid ***:Lifestyle factors such as dietary intake and PA levels seems to be related to thyroid function even in young euthyroid adults.

This work aims to determine the phytochemical characterization of the pericarp of Chamaedorea radicalis *** as a non-timber product with potential to obtain phytochemicals with potential applications in the *** from *** were grouped in four ripening stages named as S1,S2,S3 and S4,according to maturity;S1 the most unripe stage and S4 the completely ripe *** of total phenolic compounds,free radical scavenging activities and total flavonoid contents using spectrophotometric methods were ***,the tentative identification of phytochemicals during fruit ripening was done using *** phenolic compound(TPC)content ranged from 7.24 to 12.53 mg gallic acid equivalents per gram of fresh weight(mg GAE/g FW).Total flavonoids(TF)contents ranged from 0.163 to 0.23 mg of quercetin equivalents per g FW(mg QE/g FW).Free radical scavenging activity against DPPH and ABTS radicals varied from 40.80 to 53.68 and from 22.29 to 37.76 mmol Trolox equivalents g FW(mmol TE/g FW),*** assay in vitro by FRAP(ferric reducing antioxidant power)method showed that S3 was the highest level with antioxidant power while S4 was the lowest with Red ripeness stage showed the lowest contents for all *** spectrometry allowed detection of 26 compounds,including phenolics,alkaloids and ***,Kaempferol 3-neohesperidoside and the four saponins identified were present in all ripeness *** phytochemical identification and the spectrophotometric determinations showed that the pericarp of *** presented antioxidants and compounds related to alkaloids,phenolics and *** presence and abundance of each phytochemical regarding each ripeness stage should be considered.
