Objective The aim of the present study was to explore potential mechanism underlying reduced basal circulating endothelial progenitor cells (EpCs) in diabetes, and to determine how diabetes impairs ischemia-induced mobilization of bone marrow-derived EpCs. Methods Circulating c-Kit+/Sca-1+/flk-1+ EpCs and CD31bright/Annexin V+ endothelial microparticles (EMps) were analyzed by flow cytometry in control and streptozotocin-induced diabetic C57BL/6 mice. Results Compared with nondiabetic controls, diabetic mice had lower level of circulating EpCs, higher level of plasma EMps, and increased ratio of EMps to EpCs. Circulating EMps count and EpCs level were negatively associated with each other. In a hindlimb ischemia model, diabetes suppressed bone marrow-derived EpCs mobilization, accompanied by insufficient upregulaiton of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and over-activation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMps) system. As a consequence, diabetic mice showed deficient increase of capillary density and hampered restoration of transcutaneous oxygen pressure (tcpO2) in the ischemic *** These results suggest that lower circulating EpCs level detected in diabetes may be partly attributed to consumptive loss of EpCs due to increased endothelial damage. Impairment in ischemia-induced EpCs mobilization presents a novel mechanism for defective post-ischemia neovascularization in diabetes.

Reliable estimation of the ventilation rate(VR)in intensive livestock buildings is necessary for studying building environmental control strategies and predicting indoor air quality and air *** direct air exchange measurements are time-consuming and expensive,it is environmentally inefficient to measure livestock building VR continuously in ***,indirect VR estimation methods have been widely used in modelling environmental control and air emissions,and also to measure airflow in the *** accuracy of indirect measurement methods needs to be evaluated by comparing with direct *** this study,the direct and indirect methods of determining hourly and daily mean VRs were applied to a mechanically-ventilated dairy free stall barn monitored by the 24-month National Air Emissions Monitoring *** direct method was used to continuously monitor fan rotational speeds,and differential static pressures,coupled with periodic in-situ fan performance assessments,to calculate the *** indirect method consisted of estimating the VR using CO2 concentration measurements and the CO2 mass balance *** average daily and hourly means(mean±SD)of directly measured barn ventilation rates for two years were(246±73)m3/s and(245±77)m3/s,*** average daily and hourly means(mean±SD)of barn ventilation rates estimated by the CO2 mass balance method were(287±93.4)m3/s and(287±118)m3/s,*** analyses showed a strong correlation between the indirect CO2 mass balance method and direct measurement methods(r=0.93 for daily means and r=0.85 for hourly means).

The sea-to-air flux of dimethylsulphide（DMS） is one of the major sources of marine biogenic aerosol, and can have an important radiative impact on climate, especially in the Arctic Ocean. Satellite-derived aerosol optical depth（AOD） is used as a proxy for aerosol burden which is dominated by biogenic aerosol during summer and autumn. The spring sea ice melt period is a strong source of aerosol precursors in the Arctic. however, high aerosol levels in early spring are likely related to advection of continental pollution from the south（Arctic haze）.higher AOD was generally registered in the southern part of the study region. Sea ice concentration（SIC） and AOD were positively correlated, while cloud cover（CLD） and AOD were negative correlation. The seasonal peaks of SIC and CLD were both one month ahead of the peak in AOD. There is a strong positive correlation between AOD and SIC. Melting ice is positively correlated with chlorophyll a（ChL） almost through March to September,but negatively correlated with AOD in spring and early summer. Elevated spring and early summer AOD most likely were influenced by combination of melting ice and higher spring wind in the region. The peak of DMS flux occurred in spring due to the elevated spring wind and more melting ice. DMS concentration and AOD were positively correlated with melting ice from March to May. Elevated AOD in early autumn was likely related to the emission of biogenic aerosols associated with phytoplankton synthesis of DMS. The DMS flux would increase more than triple by 2100 in the Greenland Sea. The significant increase of biogenic aerosols could offset the warming in the Greenland Sea.

Vapor-phase growth of ZnO nanowires based on gold catalyst is usually accompanied with lateral crawling growth on the substrate surface. We present results from our systematic experiments where the growth temperature and catalyst size are controlled. The data corroborate that it is possible to obtain clean vertical nanowire arrays while avoiding the crawling growth. 0% the other hand, crawling growth can be manipulated to obtain root-interconnected nanowire arrays, which could be useful for certain applications. Our results also imply that the previously suggested growth mechanism for the wire-on-wall hybridstructure might be incorrect. Finally, we show the formation of sub-millimeter long, straight ZnO nanowalls by combining a gold-catalyzed epitaxial growth of vertical nanowires and their mergence due to a confined crawling growth. These unconventional nanostructures might have unique electric or optical transport properties.

AIM: To assess the effect of non-selective ETA/B (LU 302872)and selective ETA (LU 302146) antagonist on pancreatic histology and ultrastructure of acinar cells in connection with trypsinogen activation in early caerulein-induced ***: Male Wistar rats with caerulein-induced Ap,lasting 4 h, were treated i.p. with 10 and 20 mg/kg *** each antagonist. Edema, inflammatory infiltration,necrosis and vacuolization of acinar cells in the pancreas were scored at 0-3 scale. Free active trypsin (FAT), total potential trypsin (TpT) after activation with enterokinase,and index of trypsinogen activation (%FAT/TpT) were assayed in pancreatic ***: In untreated Ap, the edema, inflammatory infiltration, necrosis and vacuolization increased as compared to control healthy rats (p＜0.01). None of the treatment exerted any meaningful effect on the edema and inflammatory infiltration. The selective antagonist increased slightly the necrosis score to 0.82±0.06 at higher dose (p＜0.05) vs 0.58±0.06 in untreated Ap. The nonselective antagonist increased slightly the vacuolization score to 2.41±0.07 at higher dose (p＜0.01) vs 1.88±0.08in untreated Ap. The decrease in the number of zymogen granules, disorganization of endoplasmic reticulum,autophagosomes and cytoplasmic vacuoles were more prominent in treated Ap than in untreated Ap groups.%FAT/TpT in untreated Ap increased about four times (18.4±3.8 vs4.8±1.3 in control group without Ap, p＜0.001).Treatment of Ap with both antagonists did not affect significantly augmented trypsinogen ***: The treatment with endothelin-1 receptors (non-selective ETA/B and selective ETA) antagonists has essential effect neither on the edema and inflammatory infiltration nor on trypsinogen activation observed in the early course of caerulein-induced Ap.
