Lithospheric thinning and ignition of a Cordilleran magmatic flare-up:Geochemical and O-Hf isotopic constraints from Cretaceous plutons in southern Korea

Northeast Asian continental margins contain the products of magma emplacement driven by prolonged subduction of the(paleo-)Pacific *** observed in many Cordilleran arcs,magmatic evolution in this area was punctuated by high-volume pulses amid background *** present study investigates the early evolution of the Cretaceous magmatic flare-up using new and published geochronological,geochemical,and O-Hf isotope data from plutonic rocks in the southern Korean *** a long(~50 m.y.)magmatic hiatus and the development of the Honam Shear Zone through flat-slab subduction,the Cretaceous flare-up began with the intrusion of monzonites,granodiorites,and granites in the inboard Gyeonggi Massif and the intervening Okcheon *** to jurassic granitoids formed during the former flare-up,Albian(~111 Ma)monzonites found in the Eopyeong area of the Okcheon Belt have distinctly higher zirconε_(Hf)(t)(-7.5±1.3)andδ^(18)O(7.78‰±0.25‰)values and lower wholerock La/Yb and Sr/Y *** voluminous coeval granodiorite and granite plutons in the Gyeonggi Massif are further reduced in Sr/Y and to a lesser extent,in La/Yb,and have higher zirconε_(Hf)(t)values(-13 to-19)than the Precambrian basement(ca.-30).These chemical and isotopic features indicate that Early Cretaceous lithospheric thinning,most likely resulting from delamination of tectonically and magmatically overthickened lithospheric keel that was metasomatized during prior subduction episodes,and consequent asthenospheric upwelling played vital roles in igniting the magmatic *** O-Hf isotopic ranges of synmagmatic zircons from the Albian plutons and their Paleoproterozoic and jurassic inheritance attest to the involvement of lithospheric mantle and crustal basement in magma generation during this decratonization *** magmatism then migrated trenchward and culminated in the Late Cretaceous,yielding widespread granitoid rocks emplaced at shallow crustal *** early Late Cretaceous(94-8

Performance of statistical and machine learning-based methods for predicting biogeographical patterns of fungal productivity in forest ecosystems

Filtering for SNPs with high selective constraint augments mid-parent heterosis predictions in wheat(Triticum aestivum L.)

To extend the contemporary understanding into the grain yield heterosis of wheat, the current study investigated the contribution of deleterious alleles in shaping mid-parent heterosis(MPH). These alleles occur at low frequency in the genome and are often missed by automated genotyping platforms like SNP arrays. The deleterious alleles herein were detected using a quantitative measurement of evolutionary conservation based on the phylogeny of wheat and investigations were made to:(1) assess the benefit of including deleterious alleles into MPH prediction models and(2) understand the genetic underpinnings of deleterious SNPs for grain yield MPH using contrasting crosses viz. elite × elite(Exp. 1) and elite × plant genetic resources(PGr;Exp. 2). In our study, we found a lower allele frequency of moderately deleterious alleles in elites compared to PGrs. This highlights the role of purifying selection for the development of elite wheat cultivars. It was shown that deleterious alleles are informative for MPH prediction models: modelling their additive-by-additive effects in Exp. 1 and dominance as well as associated digenic epistatic effects in Exp. 2 significantly boosts prediction accuracies of MPH. Furthermore,heterotic-quantitative trait loci's underlying MPH was investigated and their properties were contrasted in the two crosses. Conclusively, it was proposed that incomplete dominance of deleterious alleles contributes to grain yield heterosis in elite crosses(Exp. 1).

Emerging roles of the intestine in control of cholesterol metabolism

The liver is considered the major “control center” for maintenance of whole body cholesterol homeostasis. This organ is the main site for de novo cholesterol synthesis, clears cholesterol-containing chylomicron remnants and low density lipoprotein particles from plasma and is the major contributor to high density lipoprotein (HDL; good cholesterol) formation. The liver has a central position in the classical definition of the reverse cholesterol transport pathway by taking up periphery-derived cholesterol from lipoprotein particles followed by conversion into bile acids or its direct secretion into bile for eventual removal via the feces. During the past couple of years, however, an additional important role of the intestine in maintenance of cholesterol homeostasis and regulation of plasma cholesterol levels has become apparent. Firstly, molecular mechanisms of cholesterol absorption have been elucidated and novel pharmacological compounds have been identified that interfere with the process and positively impact plasma cholesterol levels. Secondly, it is now evident that the intestine itself contributes to fecal neutral sterol loss as a cholesterol-secreting organ. Finally, very recent work has unequivocally demonstrated that the intestine contributes significantly to plasma HDL cholesterol levels. Thus, the intestine is a potential target for novel anti-atherosclerotic treatment strategies that, in addition to interference with cholesterol absorption, modulate direct cholesterol excretion and plasma HDL cholesterol levels.

华东地区典型保育猪舍温湿度和空气质量监测

为探究畜禽舍温湿度与空气质量情况,获得较可靠的监测数据,并为畜禽舍环境改善提供依据,以华东地区某典型规模猪场的两间自然通风保育猪舍为对象,应用多点连续监测方法对猪舍内的温湿度以及主要污染气体(二氧化碳(CO_2)、氨气(NH_3)、硫化氢(H_2S)和甲烷(CH_4))的质量浓度进行了为期1年的监测。监测结果显示,该保育猪舍内温度、相对湿度以及CO_2、NH_3、H_2S、CH_4质量浓度的小时平均值范围分别为0.9~42.0℃、31.1%~97.7%、423~3 534 mg/m^3、0.11~49.7 mg/m^3、0.9~41.7μg/m3和0.1~17.7 mg/m^3;对应的(年平均值±方差)分别为(25.6±8.6)℃、(71.4±11.7)%、(1 982±744)mg/m^3、(10.9±8.4)mg/m^3、(8.2±5.2)μg/m^3和(2.9±1.9)mg/m^3。研究结果还揭示了这些指标每日和四季的变化规律以及舍内环境状况。全年的最低和最高小时平均温度和相对湿度,以及小时平均最高CO_2和NH_3质量浓度超出了国家标准中规定的规模猪场环境参数的临界值。但舍内的H_2S和CH_4质量浓度很低,不会对猪的健康生长以及猪舍的安全造成危害。

The chaotic phenomena of subharmonic resonant waves in undamped and damped strings are investigated in this paper. The model consistS of a constant-tension, stretched string whose partial differential equation is derived by taking into account its exact configuration. Simplification via a Taylor series expansion of the curvature term and then employing the Galerkin method, an ordinary differential equation for the nonlinear dyamics is obtained. For the undamped case, we can formulate the Hamiltonian energy form of the conservative string, under the influence of an external periodic excitation. This permits the subharmonic resonant condition for this system to be derived. We truncate the resulting infinite number of subharmonic resonant waves to just two waves by renormalizing the Hamiltonian energy function near the subharmonic resonant orbit of the system. Adopting the renormalization group technique for the nit6raction of the two subharmonic resonant waves, an approximate chaotic condition associated with the subharmonic resonance of this system is determined. For the case fo the damped string, the minimum condition for the bifurcation of the subharmonic resonant wave is computed using the incremental energy balance method. For model verification, we carried out numerical simulations and they show good agreement with our analytical results.
