Human activities involving noise emission can affect wild *** mink was exposed to road noise and human voice playbacks to analyze how sound intensity level and duration of both noises altered the time that individuals were active and if their fecal cortisol metabolite(FCM)levels varied.A Hierarchical Analysis Cluster was performed to establish 2 mink groups with respect to both noise source type:short duration/low intensity(SL)and long duration/high intensity(LH).We performed general linear mixed models to evaluate the variation in locomotor activity duration(s)and FCM(nanogram per gram)levels,*** results showed both road noise and human voices decreased locomotor activity duration in SL more sharply compared with LH,and human voices were the triggers that induced the most pronounced response to both exposure ***(ng/g)levels increased in SL compared with LH during road noise while the opposite happened during human *** based on sex and age of individuals were *** conclusion,noise characteristics given by the sound type determined the variations in locomotor activity duration while noise exposure level determined the variations in FCM(ng/g)*** should be paid to noisy activities(e.g.,recreational activities for visitors in protected natural areas)and loud groups of people to conserve wildlife,especially noise sensitive species.

Carbapenems are potent β-lactams with activity against extended-spectrum cephalosporinases and β-lactamases. These antibiotics, derived from thienamycn, a carbapenem produced by the environmental bacterium Streptomyces cattleya, were initially used as last-resort treatments forsevere Gram-negative bacterial infections presenting resistance to most β-lactams but have become an empirical option in countries with high prevalence of Extended Spectrum β-lactamase-producing bacterial infections. Imipenem, the first commercially available carbapenem, was approved for clinical use in 1985. Since then, a wide variety of carbapenem-resistant bacteria has appeared, primarily Enterobacteriaceae such as Escherichia coli or Klebsiella pneumoniae(K. pneumoniae), Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii, presenting different resistance mechanisms. The most relevant mechanism is the production of carbapenem-hydrolyzing β-lactamases, also known as carbapenemases. These enzymes also inactivate all known β-lactams, and some of these enzymes can be acquired through horizontal gene transfer. Moreover, plasmids, transposons and integrons harboring these genes typically carry other resistance determinants, rendering the recipient bacteria resistant to almost all currently used antimicrobials, as is the case for K. pneumoniae carbapenemase- or New Delhi metallo-β-lactamases-type enzymes. The recent advent of these enzymes in the health landscape presents a serious challenge. First, the emergence of carbapenemases limits the currently available treatment options; second, these enzymes pose a risk to patients, as some studies have demonstrated high mortality associated with carbapenemase-producing bacterial infections; and third, these circumstances require an extra cost to sanitary systems, which are particularly cumbersome in developing countries. Enhancement in coercivity values of precursor powders of cobalt ferrite embedded in silica xerogel as well as polyaniline was observed using vibrating sample magnetometry. We compared the magnetic properties of pure precursor powders of ferrite cobalt prepared by coprecipitation method and those embedded in xerogel and polyaniline matrix, prepared by sol-gel and by a conventional in situ chemical oxidation polymerization, respectively. The main magnetic effect is the altered coercivity value growing two magnitude orders for the precursor powders of cobalt ferrite embedded in silica xerogel and in polyaniline. The value goes from 52 Oe to 2200 Oe and 1054 Oe for pure coprecipitated precursor powder and embedded in silica xerogel, and embedded in polyaniline, respectively, without any heat-treatment.

Plant-based bioproduction of insect sex pheromones has been proposed as an innovative strategy to increase the sustainability of pest control in ***,we describe the engineering of transgenic plants producing(Z)-11-hexadecenol(Z11-16OH)and(Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate(Z11-16OAc),two main volatile components in many Lepidoptera sex pheromone *** assembled multigene DNA constructs encoding the pheromone biosynthetic pathway and stably transformed them into Nicotiana benthamiana *** constructs contained the Amyelois transitella AtrΔ11 desaturase gene,the Helicoverpa armigera fatty acyl reductase HarFAR gene,and the Euonymus alatus diacylglycerol acetyltransferase EaDAct gene in different *** the pheromone-producing plants showed dwarf phenotypes,the severity of which correlated with pheromone *** but one of the recovered lines produced high levels of Z11-16OH,but very low levels of Z11-16OAc,probably as a result of recurrent truncations at the level of the EaDAct *** one plant line(SxPv1.2)was recovered that harboured an intact pheromone pathway and which produced moderate levels of Z11-16OAc(11.8μg g^(-1) FW)and high levels of Z11-16OH(111.4μg g^(-1)).Z11-16OAc production was accompanied in SxPv1.2 by a partial recovery of the dwarf ***1.2 was used to estimate the rates of volatile pheromone release,which resulted in 8.48 ng g-1 FW per day for Z11-16OH and 9.44 ng g^(-1 )FW per day for *** results suggest that pheromone release acts as a limiting factor in pheromone biodispenser strategies and establish a roadmap for biotechnological improvements.

A case-control study was conducted in a brickmaker’s community in Juarez City, Chihuahua in Mexico. This population has been chronically exposed to a wide spectrum of potentially health-damaging pollutants that include coarse, fine and ultrafine particles, carbon monoxide (CO), oxides of nitrogen and sulphur, transitional metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), volatile organic compounds and bioaerosols. Lipid peroxidation level (LPX) and protein carbonyl content (PCC) help to evaluate oxidized protein content and activity of the antioxidant enzymes: superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) were evaluated in blood samples of study participants. The group of occupationally exposed (OE) workers consisted of 30 individuals ranging in age from 25 to 55 years, with a mean of 15 years in a brick production-related job. The control group included 30 volunteers who were neither environmentally nor occupationally exposed to brick production activities and whose sociodemo-graphic characteristics were similar to the OE group. Results indicate that none of workers used any type of protective equipment (respirator or face mask, gloves, coveralls) during brick manufacturing. LPX and PCC significantly increased (p < 0.5) in the OE group compared to the control group. SOD, CAT and GPx activity was significantly increased (p < 0.5) in the OE group compared to the control group. Therefore, evaluation of stress oxidative biomarkers is advisable in order to assay chronic exposure to workers in brick manufacturing.
