Correlations among large igneous provinces related to the West Gondwana breakup:A geochemical database reappraisal of Early Cretaceous plumbing systems

The opening and spreading of the Atlantic Ocean between Africa and South America evolved during the Early Cretaceous and were preceded by dramatic tholeiitic(mafic)magmatism and minor silicic and alkaline *** features are presently recognized from the equatorial regions of Brazil and Africa to the Falklands and South *** southeastern South America,continental flood basalts and related plumbing systems constitute the ParanáMagmatic Province(PMP),whose African counterpart is the Etendeka Magmatic Province(EMP).In northeastern Brazil,dike swarms and sill complexes compose the Equatorial Atlantic Magmatic Province(EQUAMP).As a common feature,these provinces are chemically represented by two prevalent magma types:(1)tholeiitic basalts and basaltic andesites with lowTi(TiO_(2)ransitional Ti tholeiites with TiO_(2)~2.7-1.7 wt.%,and low incompatible element *** type is predominantly found in the southern PMP and EMP,with minor occurrences in the EQUAMP.(2)Tholeiitic basalts and basaltic andesites with high Ti(TiO_(2)>~2 wt.%)and incompatible element *** Ti tholeiites are relevant in the northern PMP and EMP,and dominant in *** rocks(SiO_(2)=57-65 wt.%)interpreted as byproducts of assimilation and/or fractional crystallization(AFC)processes from high Ti tholeiitic magmas,are scarce(but present)in all three *** accurate analysis of multivariable databases collected from the literature for dikes and sills,including major and trace element and radiogenic isotope data,reveals close similarities in their geochemical *** a paleogeographic reconstruction of West Gondwana,the intrusive remnants of the PMP,EMP and EQUAMP are spread over an area of nearly 10×10^(6)km^(2).forming perhaps the most extensive set of plumbing systems on Earth,with a relatively consistent chronology based on a vast collection of K-Ar and^(40)Ar/^(39)Ar data available in the *** work provides the first c

Mechanical Properties of Polypropylene Composites reinforced with Macadamia Nutshell Fibers

The use of natural fibers as an additive in polymeric matrices has attracted interest of the automotive industries,for its low cost,mechanical properties,biodegradability and ***,the hydrophilic nature of the fiber makes polymer compatibility *** surface treatments can be used to enhance the fiber/matrix *** the present work,polypropylene(PP)composites reinforced with fibers from macadamia nutshell were obtained and *** nutshell fibers were treated by an alkaline treatment with sodium hydroxide(NaOH 4%)to improve adhesion between fibers and *** were characterized by techniques of Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM)and X-ray Diffraction(XrD).The PP was mixed with the macadamia fibers(treated and untreated),in proportions of 5 and 10%(wt/wt)using a thermokinetic *** tensile,flexural and impact specimens(Pure PP and composites)were prepared by an injection molding process and tested for evaluation of mechanical *** results showed that the insertion of treated fibers in the PP matrix increased the stiffness of the ***,the composites reinforced with untreated fibers presented higher impact energy absorption when compared to composites reinforced with treated fibers.

High-pressure metamorphic rocks in the Borborema Province, Northeast Brazil: reworking of Archean oceanic crust during proterozoic orogenies

We present the first evidence of Archean oceanic crust submitted to Proterozoic high-pressure(HP)metamorphism in the South American ***-Nd and Lu-Hf isotopic data combined with U-Pb geochronological data from the Campo Grande area,rio Grande do Norte domain,in the Northern Borborema Province,reflect a complex Archean(2.9 Ga and 2.6 Ga)and Paleoproterozoic(2.0 Ga)evolution,culminating in the Neoproterozoic Brasiliano/Pan-African orogeny(ca.600 Ma).The preserved mafic rocks contain massive poikiloblastic garnet and granoblastic amphibole with variable proportions of plagioclase+diopside in symplectitic texture,typical of high-pressure *** clinopyroxene-garnet amphibolites and the more common garnet amphibolites from the Campo Grande area are exposed as rare lenses within an Archean migmatite *** amphibolite lenses represent 2.65 Ga juvenile tholeiitic magmatism derived from depleted mantle sources(positive values of+3.81 to+30.66)later enriched by mantle metasomatism(negative εNd(t)values of-7.97).Chondrite and Primitive Mantle-normalized rEE of analyzed samples and discriminant diagrams define two different oceanic affinities,with E-MOrB and OIB *** Eu anomalies(Eu/Eu*=0.75-0.95)indicate depletion of plagioclase in the *** zircon cores of 3.0-2.9 Ga in analyzed samples indicate that the Neoarchean tholeiitic magmatism was emplaced into 2923±14 Ma old Mesoarchean crust(εNd(t)--2.58 and Nd TDM=3.2 Ga)of the rio Grande do Norte *** age of retro-eclogite facies metamorphism is not yet completely *** suggest that two high-grade metamorphic events are recognized in the mafic rocks:the first at 2.0 Ga,recorded in some samples,and the second,at ca.600 Ma,stronger and more pervasive and recorded in several of the mafic rock *** Neoproterozoic zircon grains are found in symplectite texture as inclusions in the garnet grains and represent the age of HP conditions in the *** zircon grains show a

Evaluation of functional, autonomic and inflammatory outcomes in children with asthma

Asthma is common in childhood. This respiratory disease is characterized by persistent inflammation of the airways even when the child is not in thethroes of an attack. Chronic inflammation is caused by an imbalance between pro-inflammatory and antiinflammatory mechanisms as well as autonomic dysfunction, which plays an important role in the pathogenesis and control of this condition. The impact of these physiopathological aspects leads to inactivity and a sedentary lifestyle, which exerts an influence on functional capacity and control of the disease. The main objective of non-pharmacological therapy is the clinical control of asthma and the minimization of airway obstruction and hyperinflation during an attack. These factors can be controlled with noninvasive ventilation. The aim or the present review was to describe important neural, inflammatory and functional mechanisms that affect children with asthma.

Data I/O management approach for the post-hoc visualization of big simulation data results

Leading-edge supercomputers,such as the K computer,have generated a vast amount of simulation results,and most of these datasets were stored on the file system for the post-hoc analysis such as *** this work,we first investigated the data generation trends of the K computer by analyzing some operational log data *** verified a tendency of generating large amounts of distributed files as simulation outputs,and in most cases,the number of files has been proportional to the number of utilized computational nodes,that is,each computational node producing one or more *** that the computational cost of visualization tasks is usually much smaller than that required for large-scale numerical simulations,a flexible data input/output(I/O)management mechanism becomes highly useful for the post-hoc visualization and *** this work,we focused on the xDMlib data management library,and its flexible data I/O mechanism in order to enable flexible data loading of big computational climate simulation *** the proposed approach,a pre-processing is executed on the target distributed files for generating a light-weight metadata necessary for the elaboration of the data assignment mapping used in the subsequent data loading *** evaluated the proposed approach by using a 32-node visualization cluster,and the K *** the inevitable performance penalty associated with longer data loading time,when using smaller number of processes,there is a benefit for avoiding any data replication via copy,conversion,or *** addition,users will be able to freely select any number of nodes,without caring about the number of distributed files,for the post-hoc visualization and analysis purposes.

Combining European Earth Observation products with Dynamic Global Vegetation Models for estimating Essential Biodiversity Variables

Global,fast and accessible monitoring of biodiversity is one of the main pillars of the efforts undertaken in order to revert it *** Group on Earth Observations Biodiversity Observation Network(GEO-BON)provided an expert-based definition of the biological properties that should be monitored,the Essential Biodiversity Variables(EBVs).Initiatives to provide indicators for EBVs rely on global,freely available remote sensing(rS)products in combination with empirical models and field data,and are invaluable for decision *** this study,we provide alternatives for the expansion and improvement of the EBV indicators,by suggesting current and future data from the European Space Agencýs COPErNICUS and explore the potential of rS-integrated Dynamic Global Vegetation Models(DGVMs)for the estimation of *** review found that mainly due to the inclusion of the Sentinel constellation,Copernicus products have similar or superior potential for EBV indicator estimation in relation to their NASA *** simulate the ecosystem level EBVs(ecosystem function and structure),and when integrated with remote sensing data have great potential to not only offer improved estimation of current states but to provide projection of ecosystem *** suggest that focus on producing EBV relevant outputs should be a priority within the research community,to support biodiversity preservation efforts.

Esophageal and gastric cancer(GC) are related to obesity and bariatric surgery. risk factors, such as gastroesophageal reflux and Helicobacter pylori, must be investigated and treated in obese population. After surgery, GC reports are anecdotal and treatment is not standardized. This review aims to discuss GC related to obesity before and after bariatric surgery.
