Structure and species composition of tree stands on verges and slopes along a major highway in Hong Kong

Arboricultural research focusing on transport land use was lacking in Hong *** highway slopes were registered in the Systematic Identification of Maintenance Responsibility of Slopes in the Territory(SIMAR),abbreviated as SIMAR *** aimed to analyze patterns in the structure and species composition of the tree stock along a highway in Hong Kong and examined how a slope registration system could help explain the characteristics of urban *** 53 slopes and 52 verges along San Tin Highway,Hong Kong were randomly *** trees on each slope and verge were collectively sampled as a tree *** variables,namely tree abundance,species richness,maximum tree height,Shannon-Wiener diversity,Simpson's dominance,and Pielou's evenness were measured for each *** addition,a limited visual tree risk assessment was *** 7,209 trees in 23 species were *** richness was low,ranging from one to eight species per *** and non-SIMAR slopes were *** slopes had significantly higher species richness,diversity,evenness but lower dominance,with mean difference of 1.41 species,0.17,0.17 *** slopes were associated with lower tree risk *** training regression models,boosting as an ensemble method arbitrarily raised the explanatory power and the predictive accuracy of some *** height,length,angle and area could be significant predictors of the biodiversity-related *** research can sample more habitat characteristics related to the structure and species composition of slopes and verges which were important components of urban forestry.

Healthy campus by open space design： Approaches and guidelines

This paper examines the architectural and Landscape design strategies and intentions for green, open spaces facilities targeting stress aLLeviation for learning environments such as those of university campuses in a compact urban setting. Literature reviews provide three prevailing perspectives for physical design pedagogical operatives： healing gardens where greenery and plants produce restorative effects; flexible spaces that accommodate functional needs of different activities; and green buildings that incorporate open space as a catalyst for integrated eco-system. Corresponding design approaches （Landscape design, spatial design and green design） are scrutinized by case study. A comparison of two university campuses with different urban contexts is conducted to identify challenges and opportunities for applying these design approaches. For a compact campus, high-dense surroundings may limit the size of an open space and may handicap circulation and accessibility; on the other side, a small open space may provide its users more intimate contact with natural restorative elements and also a more controllable microclimate for physical comfort. A healthy campus should encompass diverse open spaces to satisfy different purposes. Finally, a framework that integrates the three approaches is combined to produce a sustainable design rubric.

A COMPARISON OF INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL SATISFACTION BETWEEN TWO GREEN BUILDINGS AND A CONVENTIONAL BUILDING IN CHINA

Green buildings can have a more significant impact on their occupant health and productivity through improving indoor environment ***,post-occupancy studies invariably pointed out that green buildings were not always more comfortable and productive than non-green *** article presents a comparison study between three buildings in Shenzhen aiming to examine the actual performance of green buildings from occupant point of *** two green buildings marked a higher satisfaction on the health and productivity ***,in-depth examinations on IEQs showed some weaknesses in the two green *** the comfort and satisfaction with the indoor air and temperature,the two green buildings performed better in summer but worse in *** of the two green buildings had significantly more noise from different sources than the conventional *** other green building was significantly less satisfactory on the lighting environment than the conventional *** were discussed for the green building designs and operations.

BACKGROUND Large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma(NEC)is an uncommon type of tumor that can occur in the *** aggressive cancer requires definitive ***,we describe the clinical characteristics and treatment of a postmenopausal woman with large cell NEC of the *** SUMMARY A 55-year-old Asian female presented with a 1-year history of postmenopausal vaginal *** ultrasound revealed a thickened endometrium(30.2 mm)and a hypervascular *** tomography revealed that the tumor had invaded more than half of the myometrium and spread to the pelvic lymph *** tumor marker,carcinoembryonic antigen,was elevated(3.65 ng/mL).Endocervical biopsy revealed high-grade endometrial *** underwent radical hysterectomy,bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy,omentectomy,and bilateral pelvic and para-aortic lymph node *** examination revealed mixed neuroendocrine and endometrioid adenocarcinoma,pT2N0M0,grade 3,and International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage *** showed moderate estrogen and progesterone receptor expressions(20%and 1%,respectively),focal CD56 expression(NEC marker),positive staining for vimentin,p53(wild type),and ki67(90%),and loss of expression of PMS2(Lynch syndrome marker).The patient received five cycles of cisplatin and etoposide after *** recurrence was noted after 5 *** We report the characteristics and successful management of a rare case of large cell endometrial NEC concomitant with Lynch syndrome.

AIM： To characterize the peripheral T-cell subpopulation profiles and their correlation with hepatitis B virus （HBV） replication in different dinical stages of chronic HBV infection. METHODS： A total of 422 patients with chronic HBV infection were enrolled in this study. The patients were divided into three stages： immune-tolerant stage, immune active stage, and immune-inactive carrier stage. Composition of peripheral T-cell subpopulations was determined by flow cytometry. HBV markers were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Serum HBV DNA load was assessed by quantitative real-time poiymerase chain reaction.RESULTS： CD8^＋ T-cells were significantly higher in patients at the immune-tolerant stage than in patients at the immune-active and -inactive carrier stages （36.87 ± 7.58 vs 34.37 ± 9.07, 36.87 ± 7.58 vs 28.09 ± 5.64, P 〈 0.001）. The peripheral blood in patients at the immune-tolerant and immune active stages contained more CD8^＋ T-cells than CD4^＋ T-cells （36.87 ± 7.58 vs 30.23 ± 6.35, 34.37 ± 9.07 vs 30.92 ± 7.40, P 〈 0.01）, whereas the peripheral blood in patients at the immune- inactive carrier stage and in normal controls contained less CD8^＋ T-cells than CD4^＋ T-cells （28.09 ± 5.64 vs 36.85 ±6.06, 24.02 ± 4.35 vs 38.94 ± 3.39, P 〈 0.01）. ANOVA linear trend test showed that CD8^＋ T-cells were significantly increased in patients with a high viral load （39.41 ± 7.36, 33.83 ± 7.50, 31.81 ± 5.95 and 26.89 ± 5.71, P 〈 0.001）, while CD4^＋ T-cells were significantly increased in patients with a low HBV DNA load （37.45 ± 6.24, 33.33 ± 5.61, 31.58 ± 6.99 and 27.56 ± 5.49, P 〈 0.001）. Nultiple regression analysis displayed that log copies of HBV DNA still maintained its highly significant coefficients for T-cell subpopulations, and was the strongest predictors for variations in CD3^＋, CD4^＋ and CD8^＋ cells and CD4^＋/CD8^＋ ratio after adjustment for age at HBV-infection, maternal HBV-infection status, presence of hepatitis B e antigen and HBV mutation.

Interpretable prediction of drug-cell line response by triple matrix factorization

Acquisition repeatability of MRI radiomics features in the head and neck:a dual-3D-sequence multi-scan study

Radiomics has increasingly been investigated as a potential biomarker in quantitative imaging to facilitate personalized diagnosis and treatment of head and neck cancer(HNC),a group of malignancies associated with high ***,the feature reliability of radiomics is a major obstacle to its broad validity and generality in application to the highly heterogeneous head and neck(HN)*** particular,feature repeatability of radiomics in magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)acquisition,which is considered a crucial confounding factor of radiomics feature reliability,is still sparsely *** study prospectively investigated the acquisition repeatability of 93 MRI radiomics features in ten HN tissues of 15 healthy volunteers,aiming for potential magnetic resonance-guided radiotherapy(MRgRT)treatment of *** subject underwent four MRI acquisitions with MRgRT treatment position and immobilization using two pulse sequences of 3D T1-weighed turbo spin-echo and 3D T2-weighed turbo spin-echo on a 1.5T MRI *** repeatability of radiomics feature acquisition was evaluated in terms of the intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC),whereas within-subject acquisition variability was evaluated in terms of the coefficient of variation(CV).The results showed that MRI radiomics features exhibited heterogeneous acquisition variability and uncertainty dependent on feature types,tissues,and pulse *** a small fraction of features showed excellent acquisition repeatability(ICC>0.9)and low within-subject *** MRI scans improved the accuracy and confidence of the identification of reliable features concerning MRI acquisition compared to simple test-retest repeated *** study contributes to the literature on the reliability of radiomics features with respect to MRI acquisition and the selection of reliable radiomics features for use in modeling in future HNC MRgRT applications.

The electron-hole exchange interaction significantly influences the optical properties of excitons and radiative decay. However, exciton dynamics in luminescent carbon dots （Cdots） is still not clear. In this study, we have developed a simple and efficient one-step strategy to synthesize luminescent Cdots using the pyrolysis of oleylamine. The sp^2 clusters of a few aromatic rings are responsible for the observed blue photoluminescence. The size of these clusters can be tuned by controlling the reaction time, and the energy gap between the π-π＊ states of the sp^2 domains decreases as the sp^2 cluster size increases. More importantly, the strong electron-hole exchange interaction results in the splitting of the exciton states of the sp^2 clusters into the singlet-bright and triplet-dark states with an energy difference ΔE, which decreases with increasing sp^2 cluster size owing to the reduction of the confinement energy and the suppression of the electron-hole exchange interaction.

Effects of a nurse-led heart failure clinic on hospital readmission and mortality in Hong Kong

Background Heart failure （HF） is a physically and socially debilitating disease that carries the burden of hospital re-admission and mortality. As an aging society, Hong Kong urgently needs to find ways to reduce the hospital readmission of HF patients. This study evaluates the effects of a nurse-led HF clinic on the hospital readmission and mortality rates among older HF patients in Hong Kong. Methods This study is a retrospective data analysis that compares HF patient in a nurse-led HF clinic in Hong Kong compared with HF patients who did not attend the clinic. The nurses of this clinic provide education on lifestyle modification and symptom monitoring, as well as titrate the medications and measure biochemical markers by following established protocols. This analysis used the socio-demographic and clinical data of HF patients who were aged 〉 65 years old and stayed in the clinic over a six-month period. Results The data of a total of 78 HF patients were included in this data analysis. The mean age of the patients was 77.38 ± 6.80 years. Approximately half of the HF patients were male （51.3%）, almost half were smokers （46.2%）, and the majority received 〈 six years of formal education. Most of the HF patients （87.2%） belonged to classes II and III of the New York Heart Association Functional Classification, with a mean ejection fraction of 47.15± 20.31 mL. The HF patients who attended the clinic （n = 38, 75.13 ± 5.89 years） were significantly younger than those who did not attend the clinic （n = 40, 79.53 ± 6.96 years）（P = 0.04）, and had lower recorded blood pressure. No other statistically significant difference existed between the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of the two groups. The HF patients who did not attend the nurse-led HF clinic demonstrated a significantly higher risk of hospital readmission [odd ratio （OR）： 7.40; P 〈 0.01] than those who attended after adjusting for the effect of age and blood pressure.
