The nuclear-encoded small sub.nit rib.somal RNA gene （18S rDNA） of 16 isolates of Chondrus from 8 countries were sequenced. A total of 1796 nucleotides were ob.ained and aligned with the phylogenetic analysis conducted. The results suggest that the entity from Dalian, China, regarded as C. spl is C. pinnulatus. The C. sp2 previously depicted as C. yendoi or Mazzaellajaponica may b.long to genus Chondrus. So, 4 Chondrus species, i.e.C. ocellatus, C. nipponicus, C. armatus, and C. pinnulatus are distrib.ted in China. However, the entity from Connemara, Ireland, named C. crispus, is not a Chondrus species b.t that ofMastocarpus stellatus, although it is morphologically similar to C. crispus. Phylogenetic analysis b.sed on complete 18S rDNA sequence data shows that genus Chondrus includes 3 main lineages： the Northern Pacific lineage, containing C. ocellatus, C. yendoi, and C, nipponicus; C, armatus, and C. pinnulatus form the sub.North Pacific lineage; and the Northern Atlantic Ocean lineage, comprising samples of C. crispus from Canada, Portugal, Ireland, Germany and France. The phylogenetic relationships indicate that genus Chondrus might have a North Pacific ancestral origin, radiated to North Atlantic area, and then formed the species C. crispus.

Different from current coherent-detection-b.sed long-haul transmission systems, inter-and intradatacenter transmissions require a simpler transmitter and receiver. A promising way to significantly meet the demands of datacenter transmission is polarization division multiplexing intensity modulation with direct detection(PDM-IM-DD) using a Stokes vector receiver(SVR). However, for different SVR architectures,the corresponding demultiplexing matrix is required to recover the Stokes vectors from the detected signals,which are comb.ned with an arb.trary state of polarization(SOP), will change the effect of noise dynamically and significantly influence the system performance. In this study, PDM-IM signals using four SVRs,i.e., a 90? optical hyb.id with 2 b.0}ced photodetectors(b.Ds) and 2 photodetectors(PDs), a 90? optical hyb.id with 4 PDs, a Stokes analyzer and a 3×3 coupler with 4 PDs, are studied theoretically and numerically. Theoretical system models using the four SVRs are developed, and the noise power variations are analyzed quantitatively b.sed on these models. Moreover, the performance of the systems is also investigated for 224 Gb.t/s polarization division multiplexing pulse amplitude modulation 4 level with direct detection(PDM-PAM4-DD) transmission in a simulation. The simulation results show that the b.t error rate(b.R)performance of the systems is consistent with the theoretical noise power variation curves. The theoretical analysis scheme is helpful for the practical design of SVR-b.sed systems.

AIM: To investigate the presence or ab.ence of high amplitude propagating contractions (HAPC), as well as the other measures of colonic motility, in persons with spinal cord injury (SCI). METHODS: Prolonged colonic amb.latory manometric studies were performed on 14 male volunteers: 8 with SCI (mean age, 59 ± 13 years; mean duration of injury, 13 ± 4 years) and 6 healthy ab.e-b.died controls (mean age, 57 ± 10 years). A solid-state manometry catheter was endoscopically clipped to the splenic flexure. Recording was performed for > 24 h after manometric catheter placement. RESULTS: HAPC were ab.ent in individuals with SCI during pre-sleep, sleep, and post-sleep phases. HAPC were significantly increased after awakening in non-SCI controls (0.8 ± 0.2 HAPC/h vs 10.5 ± 2.0 HAPC/h, P b.erved in b.th the SCI and non-SCI groups (Pre-sleep vs Sleep, non-SCI: 8.8 ± 1.9 vs 2.1 ± 0.9, P b.erved in individuals with SCI preor post-sleep. A sleep-induced depression in general colonic motility was evident in SCI and control sub.ects.

The wall shear stress （WSS） that a moving fluid exerts on a surface affects many processes including those relating to vascular function. WSS plays an important role in normal physiology （e.g. angiogenesis） and affects the microvasculature＇s primary function of molecular transport. Points of fluctuating WSS show ab.ormalities in a numb.r of diseases; however, there is no estab.ished technique for measuring WSS directly in physiological systems. All current methods rely on estimates ob.ained from measured velocity gradients in b.lk flow data. In this work, we report a nanosensor that can directly measure WSS in microfluidic chamb.rs with sub.micron spatial resolution b. using a specific type of virus, the b.cteriophage M13, which has b.en fluorescently lab.led and anchored to a surface. It is demonstrated that the nanosensor can b. calib.ated and adapted for b.ological tissue, revealing WSS in micro-domains of cells that cannot b. calculated accurately from b.lk flow measurements. This method lends itself to a platform applicab.e to many applications in b.ology and microfluidics.
