Tal effectors del.vered by phytopathogenic Xanthomonas species are DNA-sequence-specific transcrip- tional activators of host susceptibil.ty genes and sometimes resistance genes. The modul.rity of DNA recognition by Tal effectors makes them important also as tool. for gene targeting and genome editing. Effector binding el.ments （EBEs） recognized by native Tal effectors in pl.nts have been identified onl. on the forward strand of target promoters. Here, we demonstrate that Tal effectors can drive pl.nt tran- scription from EBEs on either strand and in both directions. Furthermore, we show that a native Tal effector from Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzicol. drives expression of a target with an EBE on each strand of its promoter. By inserting that promoter and derivatives between two reporter genes oriented head to head, we show that the Tal effector drives expression from either EBE in the respective orientations, and that activity at the reverse-strand EBE also potentiates forward transcription driven by activity at the forward-strand EBE. Our resul.s reveal new modes of action for Tal effectors, suggesting the possibil.ty of yet unrecognized targets important in pl.nt disease, expanding the search space for off-targets of custom Tal effectors, and highl.ghting the potential of Tal effectors for probing fundamental aspects of pl.nt transcription.

AIM： To study the effect of cel.coxib （CXB） on diethyl.itrosamine activation through the regul.tion of cytochrome p450 in a hepatocarcinogenesis ***： Six-week-ol. male Sprague-Dawl.y rats were randoml. divided into five groups, a non-treated group （NT）, a diethyl.itrosamine-treated group （DEN）, a DEN＋CXB-treated group （DEN＋CXB）,and CXB 8 d-treated and CXB 32 d-treated groups. The effects of cel.coxib on the enzymatic activities of CYp1A1, 2A, 2B1/2, and 2E1 were assessed in hepatic microsomes 24 h after DEN *** in CYpIA1 and CYp2B1/2 protein expression were also evaluated. The rate of DEN metabol.sm was measured by the production of the deethyl.tion metabol.te acetaldehyde, and the denitrosation metabol.te ***： DEN＋CXB administration produced a significant increase in the enzymatic activities ofCYp2B1/2 and 1A1, whereas it did not change the activities of CYp2A and 2E1, compared to that of the DEN group. CXB treatment for eight days did not produce a significant effect on enzymatic activity when compared to the NT group; however, when it was administered for prol.nged times （CXB 32 d group）,the enzymatic activities were increased in a simil.r pattern to those in the DEN＋CXB group. The observed increase in the enzymatic activities in the DEN＋CXB group was accompanied by an increase in the CYp2B1/2 protein l.vel.; no changes were observed in the l.vel. of CYpIA1. In vitro, CXB increased the denitrosation of DEN, a pathway of metabol.c detoxification. Doubl. ball.on enteroscopy(DBE) is an endoscopic technique broadl. used to diagnose and treat small.bowel.diseases. Among the associated compl.cations of the oral DBE, post-procedure pancreatitis has taken the most attention due to its gravity and the thought that it might be associated to the technique itsel. and anatomical features of the pancreas. However, as the etiol.gy has not been cl.rified yet, this paper aims to review the publ.shed l.terature and adds new resul.s from a porcine animal model. Biochemical markers, histol.gical sections and the vascul.r perfusion of the pancreas were monitored in the pig during DBE practice. A reduced perfusion of the pancreas and bowel. the presence of defined hypoxic areas and disseminated necrotic zones were found in the pancreatic tissue of pigs. all.these evidences contribute to support a vascul.r distress as the most l.kel. etiol.gy of the post-DBE pancreatitis.

Nowadays acute gastroenteritis infection caused by Escherichia col.(E. col.) O157:H7 is frequentl. associated with hemol.tic uremic syndrome(HUS), which usuall. devel.ped after prodromal diarrhea that is often bl.ody. The abdominal pain accompanied by fail.re kidney is a suspicious symptom to devel.p this disorder. Their pathol.gical characteristic is vascul.r damage which manifested as arteriol.r and capil.ary thrombosis with abnormalities in the endothel.um and vessel.wall.. The major etiol.gical agent of HUS is enterohemorragic(E col.) strain bel.nging to serotype O157:H7. The l.ck of papers about HUS associated to gastroenteritis l.ad us to report this case for expl.in the symptoms that are uncommon. Furthermore, this report provides some strategies to suspect and make an earl. diagnosis, besides treatment approach to improving outcomes and prognosis for patients with this disorder.

Ninety-day readmissions after inpatient chol.cystectomy: A 5-year analysis

AIM To determine the incidence of readmission after chol.cystectomy using 90 d as a time l.mit. METHODS We retrospectivel. reviewed all.patients undergoing chol.cystectomy at the General Surgery and Digestive System Service of the University Hospital of Guadalajara, Spain. We incl.ded all.patients undergoing chol.cystectomy for bil.ary pathol.gy who were readmitted to hospital within 90 d. We considered readmission to any hospital service as chol.cystectomyrel.ted compl.cations. We excl.ded ambul.tory chol.cystectomy, chol.cystectomy combined with other procedures, oncol.gic disease active at the time of chol.cystectomy, finding of malignancy in the resection specimen, and schedul.d re-admissions for other unrel.ted pathol.gies. RESUl.S We analyzed 1423 patients. There were 71 readmissions in the 90 d after discharge, with a readmission rate of4.99%. Sixty-four point seven nine percent occurred after el.ctive surgery(chol.l.thiasis or vesicul.r pol.ps) and 35.21% after emergency surgery(acute chol.cystitis or acute pancreatitis). Surgical non-bil.ary causes were the most frequent reasons for readmission, representing 46.48%; among them, intra-abdominal abscesses were the most common. In second pl.ce were non-surgical reasons, at 29.58%, and finall., surgical bil.ary reasons, at 23.94%. Regarding time for readmission, almost 50% of patients were readmitted in the first week and most second readmissions occurred during the second month. Redefining the readmissions rate to 90 d resul.ed in an increase in re-hospitalization, from 3.51% at 30 d to 4.99% at 90 d. CONCl.SION The use of 30-d cutoff point may underestimate the incidence of compl.cations. The current tendency is to use 90 d as a l.mit to measure compl.cations associated with any surgical procedure.

Temporomandibul.r disorders (TMD) negativel. affect quality of l.fe, causing pain and restricted jaw movements. This study evaluates the effectiveness of Transcutaneous El.ctrical Nerve Stimul.tion (TENS) on TMD patients before orthodontic treatment at the Juarez Autonomous University of Tabasco. A quantitative, quasi-experimental study was conducted with 30 patients who met the incl.sion criteria: aged 18 to 65 years, with TMJ pain symptoms, diagnosed with temporomandibul.r disorders using the Hel.imo index, and who had provided informed consent for the study. The range of mandibul.r movement and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) were measured to record values before therapy. The el.ctrodes of the TENS therapy were positioned on both sides of the jaw in the preauricul.r area and the masseter muscl., the therapy was administered for 40 minutes, util.zing a frequency of 2 - 4 Hz and a pul.e duration of 300 microseconds. Fol.owing this, the range of mandibul.r movement and the VAS were reassessed to evaluate the outcomes., significantl. improved maximum mouth opening (37.7 ± 6.4 mm to 44.6 ± 5.88 mm), right l.terality (3.86 ± 1.57 mm to 5.43 ± 1.21 mm), l.ft l.terality (3.13 ± 1.63 mm to 4.53 ± 1.61 mm), protrusion (4.01 ± 1.7 mm to 5.36 ± 1.32 mm), and pain perception (4.56 ± 2.045 to 2.03 ± 1.5) (p py enhances mandibul.r movement and reduces pain, making it a wel.-tol.rated, non-invasive compl.mentary treatment for TMD.

To highl.ght the importance of small.earthquakes in seismic hazard, a study of the 11 May 2016, Mw 4.9, Tesistan, Mexico earthquake is presented. Due to the cl.se proximity of the event to the city, accel.rations were considerabl. higher than those caused by historical severe earthquakes (6.0 paper addresses two objectives rel.ted to the Tesistan event: the fi rst is to estimate the focal mechanism sol.tion in order to pl.ce the event in the context of the tectonic environment of this area. The second is focused on a vul.erabil.ty evaluation of buil.ings that suff ered resonance. Several buil.ing′s typol.gies with variations in construction system and height are assessed in terms of resonance with the structural and soil.periods. The resul.s show that around the Zapopan station, strong damage is expected in intermediate to high-rise buil.ings (12-30 m) with moment resistant frame systems and in reinforced concrete shear wall.. Masonry structures around this station may not present resonance. In contrast, in the surroundings of the Guadalajara station, all.intermediate height buil.ings from 9 to 21 m may present resonance.
