Diabetic neuropathies are a family of nerve disorders caused by diabetes. Symptoms of the disease include nerve palsy, mononeuropathy, mononeuropathy multiplex, diabetic amyotrophy, painful polyneuropathy, autonomic neu- ropathy, and thoracoabdominal neuropathy. In this study, type 2 diabetes in rats was induced with nicotinamide- streptozotocin. Drug treatment was initiated on the d 15, with the combination regimen of metformin, pioglitazone and glimipiride or metformin and sitagliptin or sitagliptin, amitriptyline and sitagliptin and led to significantly im- proved glycemic control, increased grip strength and paw jumping response on d 21, 28 and 35 （P 〈 0.001）. Signif- icant increases in blood protein levels and decreases in urinary protein levels were observed in the animals treated with the different regimens on d 21, 28 and 35 （P 〈 0.001）. Combined treatment of streptozotocin and nicotinamide caused marked degeneration of nerve cells, while administration of metformin and sitagliptin showed tissue regen- eration and no body weight gain. In conclusion, treatment with sitagliptin and sitagliptin combined with metformin or amitriptyline results in no body weight gain, but causes an increase in grip strength and pain sensitivity, exhibits neural protection, and reverses the alteration of biochemical parameters in rats with streptozotocin-nicotinamide induced type 2 diabetes.

ZnO/CdS Nanocomposite: An Anti-Microbial and Anti-Biofilm Agent

Microbial infectious are becoming a global threat, which is a reason for rise in mortality of human beings. One of the reasons for this mortality has been the drug resistance in microbes. The drug resistance poses a major challenge for effective control of microbial infections, and this threat has prompted us to search for alternative strategy to control the microbial infections. Recently, nanomaterials have emerged as an alternative to conventional platforms because they combine multiple mechanisms of action into one platform due to the distinctive properties of nanosized materials. In the present research we have attempted to synthesize ZnO/CdS nanocomposite for its application as an antimicrobial agent. We have characterized the synthesized nanocomposites by X-ray diffraction (XRD), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The nanocomposites have exhibited good antibacterial property against Gram positive and Gram-negative organisms by virtue of the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) inside the cells, as reflected by ruptured appearances in the FESEM micrographs. Apart from antimicrobial activity, it also inhibited biofilm formations in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a causative organism in lung infection and burn associated infections.

Environmental tobacco smoke(ETS)is a wellknown reason of many adverse health consequences in pregnant *** of ETS during pregnancy may increase the risk of some fetal diseases in pregnant women and/or birth defects in *** countries have implemented laws to control smoking and free of second hand smoke in all enclosed *** China,antismoking law was enforced in March *** aimed to assess the exposure of pregnant women to cotinine after anti-smoking law was implemented in *** urine samples were collected from 2,100 volunteers from Zhejiang Province,China and urinary concentration of cotinine was measured using gas chromatography and mass *** was detected in 87%of the pregnant *** GM and 95th percentile concentration inpregnant women were 4.28 and 44.00 lg/L,***,the GM and 95th concentration of cotinine were significantly higher in smoking group than in non-smoking group(P\0.0001).Our results indicate that pregnant women in China are at the high risk of exposure *** attempts are required to make strategies to find out the sources of ETS exposure and prevent smoking at public places especially during pregnancy.

To the editor:Common mental health disorders,like depression and anxiety,account for 45%of the global disease burden on youths aged 15-29.1 This challenge is particularly significant in low and middle-income countries(LMICs)where risk factors such as poverty,limited treatment options and stigma restrict access to care and exacerbate the burden and magnify the impact of mental disorders.23 Given these barriers,there is an urgent need for research dedicated to expanding mental healthcare for young people in LMICs.

AIM: To investigate the applications of hydrogen sulfide(H2 S) in eye-specific ailments in ***: Heterozygous cystathionine-β-synthase(CBS+/-) and wild-type C57 BL/6 J(WT) mice fed with or without high methionine diet(HMD) were administered either phosphate buffered saline(PBS) or the slow-release H2 S donor: GYY4137. Several analyses were performed to study GYY4137 effects by examining retinal lysates for key protein expressions along with plasma glutamate and glutathione estimations. Intraocular pressure(IOP) was monitored during GYY4137 treatment; barium sulfate and bovine serum albumin conjugated fluorescein isothiocyanate(BSA-FITC) angiographies were performed for examining vasculature and its permeability post-treatment. Visionguided behavior was also tested employing novel object recognition test(NORT) and light-dark box test(LDBT) ***: CBS deficiency(CBS+/-) coupled with HMD led disruption of methionine/homocysteine(Hcy) metabolism leading to hyperhomocysteinemia(HHcy) in CBS+/-mice as reflected by increased Hcy, and s-adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase(SAHH) levels. Unlike CBS, cystathionine-γ lyase(CSE), methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase(MTHFR) levels which were reduced but compensated by GYY4137intervention. Heightened oxidative and endoplasmic reticulum(ER) stress responses were mitigated by GYY4137 effects along with enhanced glutathione(GSH) levels. Increased glutamate levels in CBS+/-strain were prominent than WT mice and these mice also exhibited higher IOP that was lowered by GYY4137 treatment. CBS deficiency also resulted in vision-guided behavioral impairment as revealed by NORT and LDBT findings. Interestingly, GYY4137 was able to improve CBS+/-mice behavior together with lowering their glutamate levels. Blood-retinal barrier(BRB) appeared compromised in CBS+/-with vessels' leakage that was mitigated in GYY4137 treated group. In the present investigation,a series of nanocomposite material such as MoO3,Fe3O4 synthesized by co-precipitation method and Beta cyclodextrin(β-CD)doped MoO3-Fe3O4 and Graphite doped MoO3-Fe3O4 have been synthesized successfully by Sol-Gel *** nanomaterials were characterized in detail by XRD,FT-IR,TEM-HRTEM,UV-Vis DRS *** crystalline size was in the range of 10±2 *** activity of the prepared material as a heterogeneous catalyst was successfully tested on the organic reaction of synthesis of substituted m-Chloro-Nitrobenzene and it was found to give excellent yield.

Revised national tuberculosis control programme in India has limited co-hort-wise information about what happens to patients diagnosed with multidrug resistant TB (MDR-TB). We determined the pre-treatment loss to follow-up (non-initiation of treatment by programme within 6 months of diagnosis) and time from diagnosis to treatment initiation in Bhopal district, central India (2014). Pre-treatment loss to follow-up was 13% (0.95 CI: 7%, 23%), not significantly different from the national estimates (18%) and median time to initiate treatment was seven days, lower than that reported elsewhere in the country. Bhopal was performing well with reference to time to treatment initiation in programmatic settings.

Non Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (NOFDM) systems make use of a transmission signal set which is not restricted to orthonormal bases unlike previous OFDM systems. The usage of non-orthogonal bases generally results in a trade-off between Bit Error Rate (BER) and receiver complexity. This paper studies the use of Gabor based on designing a Spectrally Efficient Multi-Carrier Modulation Scheme. Using Gabor Transform with a specific Gaussian envelope;we derive the expected BER-SNR performance. The spectral usage of such a NOFDM system when affected by a channel that imparts Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) is estimated. We compare the obtained results with an OFDM system and observe that with comparable BER performance, this system gives a better spectral usage. The effect of window length on spectral usage is also analyzed.
