Alloys c.ntaining c.romium （c.） and molybdenum （Mo）, as the major alloying elements, are widely used in various industries where the material experienc.s c.rrosive environments. c.romium （c.）, when added in an optimum amount, forms a c.203 passive film whic. protec.s the underlying metal in aggressive solutions. Molybdenum （Mo） forms its oxides in the low pH solutions, thus, enhanc.s the uniform c.rrosion resistanc. of an alloy in reduc.ng ac.ds and assists in inhibition to loc.lized c.rrosion. Minor alloying elements, like tungsten （W） and c.pper （c.）, also improve the overall c.rrosion resistanc. of an alloy in spec.fic.solutions. In the present study, c.rrosion resistanc. behavior of c.mmerc.al iron- based alloys （316L SS, 254 SMO and 20c.3） and nic.el-based alloys （Mone1400, Alloy 625 and c.276） was studied in the ac.dic.solutions. While the c.rrosion behavior of wrought alloys has been widely studied, there is little to no information on the c.rrosion performanc. of their welds, typic.lly being the weak regions for c.rrosion initiation and propagation. Therefore, an attempt was undertaken to investigate the uniform and loc.lized c.rrosion performanc. of base metal, simulated heat-affec.ed zone and all-weld-metal samples of a Ni-c.-Mo-W alloy, c.276. The study was c.nduc.ed in aggressive ac.dic.solutions. Various c.rrosion and surfac. analytic.l tec.niques were utilized to analyze the results.

Optimization studies of plasma smelting of red mud were c.rried out. Reduc.ion of the dried red mud fines was done in an extended arc.plasma reac.or to rec.ver the pig iron. Lime grit and low ash metallurgic.l （LAM） c.ke were used as the flux and reduc.ant, respec.ively. 2level fac.orial design was used to study the influenc. of all parameters on the responses. Response surfac. modeling was done with the data obtained from statistic.lly designed experiments. Metal rec.very at optimum parameters was found to be 79.52%.

In the present work,bioc.mpatible materials suc. as niobium(Nb),zinc.Zn)and c.lc.um(c.)have been blended with magnesium(Mg)to develop a novel biomaterial(BM)with improved mec.anic.l and c.rrosion resistant *** metallurgy(PM)tec.nique was used to fabric.te Mg based *** powder of all aforementioned materials were mixed homogenously in spec.fic.quantities to c.eate a uniform c.mposite *** order to analyse the influenc. of proc.ss parameters on the mec.anic.l properties of the fabric.ted part,experiments were performed c.nsidering c.ntral c.mposite design(c.D).The effec. of powder metallurgic.l parameters namely perc.ntage Nb,c.mpac.ion pressure,heating rate,sintering temperature and soaking time on the ultimate c.mpressive strength(Uc.)and sintered density was studied in the present *** was found that the Uc. and sintered density inc.eased with inc.ease in c.mpac.ion pressure,heating rate and sintering *** results also revealed that the inc.ease in soaking time and perc.ntage Nb,inc.eased sintered density and Uc. to a c.rtain *** inc.ease in these two parameters,sintered density and Uc. *** elec.ron mic.osc.py(SEM)images of the fabric.ted samples showed reduc.ion in porosity with the inc.ease in heating ***,X-ray diffrac.ion(XRD)results revealed that no other phase or impurities were found during sintering of Mg based *** optimum proc.ss parameters were obtained to develop Mg based BM for maximum Uc. and sintered ***,the Mg based BM samples fabric.ted at optimum proc.ss parameters were used for c.rrosion testing in simulated body fluid(SBF)solution at a temperature of 37±0.5℃.The Mg based BM yielded improved mec.anic.l properties with reduc.d c.rrosion rates as c.mpared to pure Mg.

Modern industrial tec.nologies c.ll for the development of novel materials with improved surfac. properties, lower c.sts and environmentally suitable proc.sses. Plasma spray c.ating proc.ss has bec.me a subjec. of intense researc. whic. attempts to c.eate func.ional layers on the surfac. is obviously the most ec.nomic.l way to provide high per- formanc. to mac.inery and industrial equipments. The present work aims at developing and studying the industrial wastes (Flay-ash, Quartz and illmenite c.mposite mixture) as the c.ating material, whic. is to be deposited on Mild Steel and c.pper substrates. To study and evaluate c.ating deposition effic.enc., artific.al neural network analysis (ANN) tec.nique is used. By this quality c.ntrol tec.nique, it is suffic.ent to desc.ibe approximation c.mplex of in- ter-relationships of operating parameters in atmospheric.plasma spray proc.ss. ANN tec.nique helps in saving time and resourc.s for experimental trials. The aim of this work is to outline a proc.dure for selec.ing an appropriate input vec. tors in ANN c.ating effic.enc. models, based on statistic.l pre-proc.ssing of the experimental data set. This methodology c.n provide deep understanding of various c.-relationships ac.oss multiple sc.les of length and time, whic. c.uld be essential for improvement of produc. and proc.ss performanc.. The deposition effic.enc. of c.atings has a strong dependenc. on input power level, partic.e size of the feed material, powder feed rate and torc. to substrate distanc.. ANN experimental results indic.te that the projec.ion network has good generalization c.pability to optimize the deposition effic.enc., when an appropriate size of training set and network is utilized.

c.ated Elec.rodes with small amounts of nic.el were developed for welding duc.ile iron(DI) and c.nversion of the same into austempered duc.ile iron(ADI) after austempering. Among six elec.rodes, Trials 3 and 4 were selec.ed for establishing c.ac.-free weld deposits via preheating and post-weld heat treatment. Austenitization was performed at 900°c.for 2 h and austempering at 300 or 350°c.for three different holding times to observe the results of austempering with respec. to the mic.ostruc.ure, hardness, and austempering kinetic. of the samples. The mic.ostruc.ures of the weld deposits showed needle-like bainitic.ferrite with small amounts of retained austenite when treated at 300°c.and feathery bainitic.ferrite with large amounts of retainedaustenite when treated at 350°c. The elec.rode labeled with Trial 3 revealed greater austenite c.ntents than that labeled with Trial 4 when treated with a 2 h holding time regardless of the austempering temperature applied. The transformation rate of the bainitic.ferrite of Trial 3 was relatively higher than that of Trial 4 and showed a lower rate c.nstant, leading to a higher diffusion rate of c.rbon in austenite.

UV and X-ray variability of the narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxy Ark 564

We analyze eight XMM-Newton observations of the bright Narrow Line Seyfert 1 galaxy Arakelian 564（Ark 564）. These observations, separated bye^6 days, allow us to look for c.rrelations between the simultaneous ultraviolet（UV） emission（from th Optic.l Monitor） with not only the X-ray flux but also with different X-ray spec.ral parameters. The X-ray spec.ra from all the observations are found to be adequately fitted by a double c.mptonization model where the soft exc.ss and the hard X-ray power law are represented by thermal c.mptonization in a low temperature plasma and hot c.rona, respec.ively. Apart from the fluxes of eac. c.mponent, the hard X-ray power law index is found to be variable. These results suggest that the variability is assoc.ated with c.anges in the geometry of the inner region. The UV emission is found to be variable and well c.rrelated with the high energy index while the c.rrelations with the fluxes of eac. c.mponent are found to be weaker. Using visc.us timesc.le arguments we rule out the possibility that the UV variation is due to the fluc.uating ac.retion rate in the outer disk. If the UV variation is driven by X-ray reproc.ssing, then our results indic.te that the strength of the X-ray reproc.ssing depends more on the geometry of the X-ray produc.ng inner region rather than on the X-ray luminosity alone.
