Carcinosarcoma(Cs),also known as metaplastic breast carcinoma with mesenchymal differentiation,is one of the five distinct subtypes of metaplastic breast *** is considered as a mixed,biphasic neoplasm consisting of a carcinomatous component combined with a malignant nonepithelial element of mesenchymal origin without an intermediate transition *** cellular origin of this neoplasm remains controversial,most researchers declare that neoplastic cells derive from a cellular structure with potential biphasic *** recent research on the therapeutic strategies against Cs neoplastic disorders,surgical resection appears the only potentially curative *** Cs metastasize by the lymphatic route,axillary assessment with sentinel lymph node biopsy and/or axillary lymph node dissection is always ***,the tumor also presents a hematogenous metastatic pattern including pleural,pulmonary,liver,brain and less commonly bone ***,surgical removal of breast Cs does not necessarily ensure patient’s long-term ***,alternative therapies,such as radio-and chemotherapy proved insufficient and 5-year survival rate is ***,there is evidence that following surgery,the combination of radio and chemotherapy is associated with a better prognosis than either treatment *** aim of this review is to evaluate the results of surgical treatment for breast Cs with special reference to the extent of its histological *** features,histogenesis,morphological and immunochemical findings are discussed,while the role of current diagnostic and therapeutic management of this aggressive neoplasm is emphasized.

Investigation on modeling parameters of concrete beams reinforced with basalt FRP bars

Fiber-reinforced polymer(FRP)bars are widely used as internal reinforcement replacing the conventional steel bars to prevent from *** the different types of FRP bars,basalt FRP(BFRP)bars have been used in different structural applications and,herein,three already tested concrete beams reinforced with BFRP bars are analyzed using three-dimensional(3-D)finite element analysis(FEA).The beams were tested in four-point *** the FEA the behavior of concrete is simulated using the^Concrete-Damaged Plasticity^^model offered in ABAQus *** research presented here presents a calibrated model for nonlinear FEA of BFRP concrete beams to predict their response considering both the accuracy and the computational *** calibration process showed that the concrete model should be regularized using a mesh-dependent characteristic length and material-dependent post-yield fracture and crushing energies to provide accurate mesh-size independent *** results were compared to the test results with regard to failure load and crack *** the test results and the numerical results were compared to the design predictions of ACI 440.1R-15 and CsA s806-12,where CsA s806-12 seems to overestimate the shear strength for two beams.

Fragility assessment of wood sheathing panels and roof-to-wall connections subjected to wind loading

The performance of the wood-frame buildings after tornadoes has shown that the majority of the wind damage resulted from building envelope failure most typically due to the loss of the *** assess the performance and the reliability of low-rise wood-frame residential buildings with a focus on the roofs,fragility analysis can be used to estimate the probability of failure of a roof when constructed with specified nails and sheathing ***,this paper examines the fragility of specific types of nails,roof-to-wall(RW)connection details,and sheathing sizes based on the damaged roofs that were previously assessed in the Dunrobin area in Ottawa(Ontario)that was hit with an Enhanced Fujita(EF3)tornado on september 21,*** presented fragility analysis considers four scenarios,including different sheathing and nail *** loads,wind loads,and resistance on the sheathing panels were compiled and analyzed to determine the failure of the examined *** eight fragility models suggest that the safest roof sheathing(Rs)is the 1.22 m×1.22 m sheathing panel with 8 d nails,and the safest RW connections is achieved by using H2.5 hurricane clips.

Compressive and cyclic flexural response of double-hooked-end steel fiber reinforced concrete

Recent developments on high-performance double-hooked-end steel fibers have enhanced the wide applications of steel fiber reinforced concrete(sFRC).This study presents the compressive properties and the cyclic flexural performance of the sFRC that were experimentally *** different double-hooked-end steel fibers at 0.25%,0.5%,0.75%,and 1%volume fractions were *** fiber types had similar length to diameter ratios,while the first two fiber types had similar anchorage mechanisms(4D)and tensile strength and the third type had different anchorage mechanism(5D)and a higher tensile *** increased volumetric ratio of the fibers increased the post-peak compressive strain(ductility),the tensile strength,and the cyclic flexural strength and cumulative energy dissipation characteristics of the *** the 4D fibers,the mixtures with the larger steel fibers showed higher flexural strength and more energy dissipation compared to the sFRCs with smaller size *** 1%steel fiber dosage,4D and 5D specimens showed similar cyclic flexural ***,a 3D finite element model that can predict the monotonic and cyclic flexural responses of the double-hooked-end sFRC was *** calibration process considered the results obtained from the inverse analysis to determine the tensile behavior of the sFRC.

Growth responses of seedlings produced by parent seeds from specifi caltitudes

Restoration activities in semi-arid Mediterranean areas like Greece face many obstacles,such as summer droughts that are becoming more intense with climate change,that pose limitations to transplanting *** for restoration must be of high quality;a vigorous root system is critical to enable seedlings to tolerate adverse *** we investigated the eff ects of altitude and source parent for seeds on the growth of subsequent seedlings to determine the best seed sources for obtaining highest-quality,most-tolerant seedlings for restoration eff *** of Quercus coccifera *** collected on an altitudinal gradient of 50 m(200,250 and 300 m a.s.l.)and from specifi c parents at each *** seedlings were grown for 3 months in a greenhouse with controlled *** results indicated a strong altitudinal and parental seed eff ect on seedling *** altitude decreased,biomass of the seedlings increased,and they developed more vigorous roots and more photosynthetic leaf ***,altitude and parent are critical factors to consider when producing seed-derived *** collecting seeds from a specifi c altitude and parent,more vigorous and stresstolerant seedlings can be obtained to enhance transplanting success.

Type 2 diabetes and quality of life

It is true that a primary goal of diabetes early diagnosis and treatment is quality of life(QoL). The term QoL is still confusing but it is agreed that it composes of four components:The physical component, mental, cogitative component, psychological and social component. Many articles have been written addressing those four components. During the last five years 15500 articles and reviews have been written addressing diabetes and coronary arterial disease, 16100 addressing diabetes and renal function, 28900 addressing diabetes and retinopathy, 16800 addressing diabetic foot ulcers and other 26300 addressing diabetic neuropathy. Moreover 17200 articles are dealing with diabetic sexual dysfunction, 24500 with the correlation of diabetes and depression 17500 about diabetes and dementia, only 1 about diabetes and family functioning and 1950000 about diabetes and QoL, indicating the worldwide interest. In order to confront this metabolic anomaly and its consequences, researchers developed numerous generic and disease specific psychometric tools. With the aid of those psychometric tools the scientific community has started to realize the gruesome effect of diabetes on patients' lives. Diabetic's QoL becomes worse when complications start to develop or comorbidities coexist. Dominant amongst complications, in health-related quality of life(HRQoL) lowering, but not related to risk factors(genetic, the weight of birth, or others) is coronary arterial disease followed by renal failure, blindness, and the combination of micro-and macrovascular complications and in some studies by sexual dysfunction. Moreover many are the comorbidities which deteriorate further the effect of diabetes in a patient life. Among them obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, depression, arthritis are the most common. Effect of even and odd-order aberrations on the accommodation response

AIM： To investigate the potential effect that odd and even-order monochromatic aberrations may have on the accommodation response of the human eye. METHODs： Eight healthy subjects with astigmatism below 1 D, best corrected visual acuity 20/20 or better and normal findings in an ophthalmic examination were enrolled. An adaptive optics system was used in order to measure the accommodation response of the subjects＇ eyes under different conditions： with the natural aber- rations being present, and with the odd and even-order aberrations being corrected. Three measurements of accommodation response were monocularly acquired at accommodation demands ranging from 0 to 4 D （0.5 D step）. REsuLTs： The accommodative lag was greater for the accommodate demands of 1.5, 3, 3.5 and 4 D for the condition in which the even-order aberrations were corrected, in comparison to that obtained for the natural aberrations and corrected odd-order aberrations for the same accommodation demands. No statistically significant differences were found between the accommodation responses under the three conditions. CONCLusION： The odd and even-order aberrations are not helping the visual system to accommodate, because their partial correction do not affect the accommodation performance.

BACKGROuND synovial sarcoma(ss) is a rare type of soft tissue sarcoma that is usually developed from areas where synovial tissue exists, especially at the ***, several cases of retroperitoneal ss(Rss) have been described. We herein report a case of Rss presented in our *** suMMARY A 69-year-old female patient was admitted with a large, palpable, firm mass in the right abdominal space ss. Computerized tomography scan depicted a concentric, sharply marinated retro-peritoneal lesion which was displacing the right kidney and the lower edge of the liver. subsequently, the patient underwent surgical excision of the mass with additional right nephrectomy and resection of the right adrenal gland and a part of the diaphragm. The final histological diagnosis of the tumour was grade II monophasic *** Rss is encountered in the biphasic type, the monophasic fibrous, and the monophasic epithelial category as well. Relevant clinical manifestations are not always documented at early stages. Therefore, the final diagnosis is posed after complete histological examination taking into consideration the results of immunochemistry and genetic analysis. Therapeutic approach happens often late when metastases at the lungs and the liver are apparent. Thus, 5-year survival rates remain low.
