Carcinosarcoma(CS),also known as metaplastic breast carcinoma with mesenchymal differentiation,is one of the five distinct subtypes of metaplastic breast *** is considered as a mixed,biphasic neoplasm consisting of a carcinomatous component combined with a malignant nonepithelial element of mesenchymal origin without an intermediate transition *** cellular origin of this neoplasm remains controversial,most researchers declare that neoplastic cells derive from a cellular structure with potential biphasic *** recent research on the therapeutic strategies against CS neoplastic disorders,surgical resection appears the only potentially curative *** CS metastasize by the lymphatic route,axillary assessment with sentinel lymph node biopsy and/or axillary lymph node dissection is always ***,the tumor also presents a hematogenous metastatic pattern including pleural,pulmonary,liver,brain and less commonly bone ***,surgical removal of breast CS does not necessarily ensure patient’s long-term ***,alternative therapies,such as radio-and chemotherapy proved insufficient and 5-year survival rate is ***,there is evidence that following surgery,the combination of radio and chemotherapy is associated with a better prognosis than either treatment *** aim of this review is to evaluate the results of surgical treatment for breast CS with special reference to the extent of its histological *** features,histogenesis,morphological and immunochemical findings are discussed,while the role of current diagnostic and therapeutic management of this aggressive neoplasm is emphasized.

Fiber-reinforced polymer(FRP)bars are widely used as internal reinforcement replacing the conventional steel bars to prevent from *** the different types of FRP bars,basalt FRP(BFRP)bars have been used in different structural applications and,herein,three already tested concrete beams reinforced with BFRP bars are analyzed using three-dimensional(3-D)finite element analysis(FEA).The beams were tested in four-point *** the FEA the behavior of concrete is simulated using the^Concrete-Damaged Plasticity^^model offered in ABAQUS *** research presented here presents a calibrated model for nonlinear FEA of BFRP concrete beams to predict their response considering both the accuracy and the computational *** calibration process showed that the concrete model should be regularized using a mesh-dependent characteristic length and material-dependent post-yield fracture and crushing energies to provide accurate mesh-size independent *** results were compared to the test results with regard to failure load and crack *** the test results and the numerical results were compared to the design predictions of ACi 440.1R-15 and CSA S806-12,where CSA S806-12 seems to overestimate the shear strength for two beams.

Nowadays,the evaluation of coal deposits becomes crucial,due to many uncontrollable factors,which affect the energy sector.A comparative evaluation of coal deposits is essential for their hierarchical classification regarding their sustainable exploitation,when compared to other coal deposits or competitive fuels,which may be used as alternative solutions for electricity *** this paper,a method for spatial analysis and evaluation of a lignite deposit is proposed,by creating four spatial key indicators via GiS analysis,which are then aggregated by applying a weighted linear *** analytical hierarchy process is applied to estimate the relative weights of the indicators,in order to perform a weighted cartographic *** the synthesis of the indicators,an overall,total spatial quality indicator is *** weighted analysis was shown to be more effective compared to the unweighted one,because it can provide more reliable results regarding the exploitation of the examined lignite *** implementation of GiS-based analytical hierarchy process in spatial analysis and evaluation of lignite deposits,in terms of sustainable exploitation,demonstrates that this method can be extensively applied for evaluating the economic potential of mineral deposits.

The performance of the wood-frame buildings after tornadoes has shown that the majority of the wind damage resulted from building envelope failure most typically due to the loss of the *** assess the performance and the reliability of low-rise wood-frame residential buildings with a focus on the roofs,fragility analysis can be used to estimate the probability of failure of a roof when constructed with specified nails and sheathing ***,this paper examines the fragility of specific types of nails,roof-to-wall(RW)connection details,and sheathing sizes based on the damaged roofs that were previously assessed in the Dunrobin area in Ottawa(Ontario)that was hit with an Enhanced Fujita(EF3)tornado on September 21,*** presented fragility analysis considers four scenarios,including different sheathing and nail *** loads,wind loads,and resistance on the sheathing panels were compiled and analyzed to determine the failure of the examined *** eight fragility models suggest that the safest roof sheathing(RS)is the 1.22 m×1.22 m sheathing panel with 8 d nails,and the safest RW connections is achieved by using H2.5 hurricane clips.

The recently proposed nomenclature change from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease to metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)has resulted in the reappraisal of epidemiological trends and associations with other chronic *** this context,MAFLD appears to be tightly linked to incident chronic kidney disease(CKD).This association may be attributed to multiple shared risk factors including type 2 diabetes mellitus,arterial hypertension,obesity,dyslipidemia,and insulin ***,similarities in their molecular pathophysiologic mechanisms can be detected,since inflammation,oxidative stress,fibrosis,and gut dysbiosis are highly prevalent in these pathologic *** the same time,lines of evidence suggest a genetic predisposition to MAFLD due to gene polymorphisms,such as the PNPLA3 rs738409 G allele polymorphism,which may also propagate renal *** their management,available treatment considerations for obesity(bariatric surgery)and novel antidiabetic agents(glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists,sodiumglucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors)appear beneficial in preclinical and clinical studies of MAFLD and CKD ***,alternative approaches such as melatonin supplementation,farnesoid X receptor agonists,and gut microbiota modulation may represent attractive options in the *** a look to the future,additional adequately sized studies are required,focusing on preventing renal complications in patients with MAFLD and the appropriate management of individuals with concomitant MAFLD and CKD.

Restoration activities in semi-arid Mediterranean areas like Greece face many obstacles,such as summer droughts that are becoming more intense with climate change,that pose limitations to transplanting *** for restoration must be of high quality;a vigorous root system is critical to enable seedlings to tolerate adverse *** we investigated the eff ects of altitude and source parent for seeds on the growth of subsequent seedlings to determine the best seed sources for obtaining highest-quality,most-tolerant seedlings for restoration eff *** of Quercus coccifera *** collected on an altitudinal gradient of 50 m(200,250 and 300 m a.s.l.)and from specifi c parents at each *** seedlings were grown for 3 months in a greenhouse with controlled *** results indicated a strong altitudinal and parental seed eff ect on seedling *** altitude decreased,biomass of the seedlings increased,and they developed more vigorous roots and more photosynthetic leaf ***,altitude and parent are critical factors to consider when producing seed-derived *** collecting seeds from a specifi c altitude and parent,more vigorous and stresstolerant seedlings can be obtained to enhance transplanting success.

Esophageal cancer (EC) presents a high mortality rate, mainly due to its aggressive nature. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common histological type world-wide, though, a continuous increase in esophageal adenocarcinomas has been noted in the past decades. Common risk factors associated with EC include smoking, alcohol consumption, gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett's esophagus and obesity. in an effort to overcome chemotherapy resistance in oncology, it was discovered that histone acetylation/deacetylation equilibrium is altered in carcinogenesis, leading to changes in chromatin structure and altering expression of genes important in the cell cycle, differentiation and apoptosis. Based on this knowledge, histone acetylation was addressed as a potential novel chemotherapy drug target to repress cancer cell proliferation. There are four classes of histone deacetylases (HDACs) inhibitors with a variety of different mechanisms of actions that render them possible anticancer drugs. They arrest the cell cycle, inhibit differentiation and angiogenesis and induce apoptosis. They do not necessarily act on histone proteins, since they can also exert indirect anti-cancer effects, by modifying various cellular *** addition,HDACs have also been associated with increased chemotherapy *** on the literature,HDACs have been associated with EC,with surveys revealing that increased expression of certain HDACs correlates with advanced TNM stages,tumor grade,metastatic potential and decreased 5-year overall and disease-free *** aim of this survey is to elucidate the molecular identity and mechanism of action of HDAC inhibitors as well as verify their potential utility as anti-cancer agents in esophageal cancer.

Compressive and cyclic flexural response of double-hooked-end steel fiber reinforced concrete

Recent developments on high-performance double-hooked-end steel fibers have enhanced the wide applications of steel fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC).This study presents the compressive properties and the cyclic flexural performance of the SFRC that were experimentally *** different double-hooked-end steel fibers at 0.25%,0.5%,0.75%,and 1%volume fractions were *** fiber types had similar length to diameter ratios,while the first two fiber types had similar anchorage mechanisms(4D)and tensile strength and the third type had different anchorage mechanism(5D)and a higher tensile *** increased volumetric ratio of the fibers increased the post-peak compressive strain(ductility),the tensile strength,and the cyclic flexural strength and cumulative energy dissipation characteristics of the *** the 4D fibers,the mixtures with the larger steel fibers showed higher flexural strength and more energy dissipation compared to the SFRCs with smaller size *** 1%steel fiber dosage,4D and 5D specimens showed similar cyclic flexural ***,a 3D finite element model that can predict the monotonic and cyclic flexural responses of the double-hooked-end SFRC was *** calibration process considered the results obtained from the inverse analysis to determine the tensile behavior of the SFRC.

Understanding the neural underpinning of human gait and balance is one of the most pertinent challenges for 21st-century translational neuroscience due to the profound impact that falls and mobility disturbances have on our aging *** and gait control does not happen automatically,as previously believed,but rather requires continuous involvement of central nervous *** effectively exert control over the body,the brain must integrate multiple streams of sensory information,including visual,vestibular,and somatosensory *** mechanisms which underpin the integration of these multisensory signals are the principal topic of the present *** multisensory integration theories focus on how failure of cognitive processes thought to be involved in multisensory integration leads to falls in older *** emphasis,however,has been placed on specific contributions of individual sensory modalities to multisensory integration processes and cross-modal interactions that occur between the sensory modalities in relation to gait and *** the present work,we review the contributions of somatosensory,visual,and vestibular modalities,along with their multisensory intersections to gait and balance in older adults and patients with Parkinson’s *** also review evidence of vestibular contributions to multisensory temporal binding windows,previously shown to be highly pertinent to fall risk in older ***,we relate multisensory vestibular mechanisms to potential neural substrates,both at the level of neurobiology(concerning positron emission tomography imaging)and at the level of electrophysiology(concerning electroencephalography).We hope that this integrative review,drawing influence across multiple subdisciplines of neuroscience,paves the way for novel research directions and therapeutic neuromodulatory approaches,to improve the lives of older adults and patients with neurodegenerative diseases.
