Retained backfill response to wall movement depends on factors that range from boundary conditions to the geometrical characteristic of individual ***,mechanical understanding of the problem warrants multi-scale analyses that investigate reciprocal relationships between macro and micro ***,this study attempts a multi-scale examination of failure evolution in cohesionless ***,the transition of retained backfills from at-rest condition to the active state is modeled using the discrete element method(DEM).DEM allows conducting virtual experiments,with which the variation of particle and boundary properties is ***,various modes of wall movement(translation and rotation)toward the active state are modeled using two different backfills with distinct particle shapes(spherical and nonspherical)under varying *** each model,cumulative rotations of single particles are tracked,and the results are used to analyze the evolution of shear bands and their geometric ***,dependencies of lateral pressure coefficients and coordination numbers,as respective macro and micro behavior indicators,on particle shape,boundary conditions,and surcharge levels are ***,contact force networks are visually determined,and their influences on pressure distribution and deformation mechanisms are discussed with reference to the associated modes of wall movement and particle shapes.

A retrogression process was applied to AA7075alloy at180,240and320°C for1,30,50,70,*** the retrogression,aging treatment was reapplied with T6conditions(120°C,24h).The mechanical properties of aged samples were determined by V-Charpy and hardness tests and also,physical properties of samples were determined by electrical conductivity ***,microstructural properties were characterized by light microscope and transmission electron *** results show that the effects of the temperature and the duration of the retrogression and reagent on the impact toughness and hardness are related to the precipitates at the grain boundary.

Hepatitis C virus （HCV）-related liver disease is asignificant cause of morbidity and mortality in patientswith end-stage renal disease （ESRD） who is treated withdialysis or kidney transplantation （KT）. Cooling slope casting has been applied to aluminium casting alloys for producing ingots with non-dendritic ***-solid forming of the AA7075 was studied via cooling slope casting,reheating and thixoforging processes in order to determine the effect of semi-solid casting on the microstructure of the ***7075 ingots with non-dendritic microstructure were produced with cooling slope *** were characterized by light microscopy,image analysis,scanning electron microscopy and EDS *** resulting structures are promising in terms of grain size and *** was realized that grain coarsening may occur very suddenly in the reheating *** slope castings were obtained with 30°and 60°inclination angles,and in comparison,60°castings showed better ***,by using short reheating periods,semi-solid forging causes trace formation in the solid grains.

Rosa canina is a member of the genus Rosa that has long been used for medical objectives. Several studies have reported cytotoxic effects of different Rosa species, but there has been only limited investigation of the cytotoxic effect of R. canina. The purpose of the current study was to examine the potential effect of *** extract on cell viability, the cell cycle, apoptosis, and the expression of telomerase in human colon cancer(WiDr) cells. The cytotoxic effect of the extract was determined using MTT assay. The mechanism involved in the cytotoxic effect of the extract was then evaluated in terms of apoptosis and the cell cycle using flow cytometry. Mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP) was investigated using the fluorometric method, and expression levels of telomerase were studied using RT-PCR. R. canina extract exhibited a selective cytotoxic effect on WiDr cells compared with normal colon cells. The extract induced cell cycle arrest at the S phase and apoptosis via reduced MMP in WiDr cells. R. canina extract significantly repressed telomerase expressions at treatment times of 48 and 72 h in WiDr cells. Our results suggest that R. canina may have considerable potential for development as a novel natural product-based anticancer agent.

Acute appendicitis presenting with abdominal wall and right groin abscess:A case report

We report a case of right lower abdominal wall and groin abscess resulting from acute appendicitis. The patient was an 27-year-old man who had no apparent abdominal signs and was brought to the hospital due to progressive painful swelling of right lower abdomen and the groin for 10 d. Significant inflammatory changes of soft tissue involving the right lower trunk were noted without any apparent signs of peritonitis. Laboratory results revealed leukocytosis. Abdominal ultrasonography described the presence of abscess at right inguinal site also communicating with the intraabdominal region. Right inguinal exploration and laparotomy were performed and about 250 mL of pus was drained from the subcutaneous tissue and preperitoneal space. No collection of pus was found intraabdominally and subserous acute appendicitis was the cause of the abscess. The patient fully recovered at the end of the second post-operation week. This case reminds us that acute appendicitis may have an atypical clinical presentation and should be treated carefully on an emergency basis to avoid serious complications.
