Background: Surgical site infections (SSIs) rem.in a challenging m.dical problem. especially in cardiac surgery patients. There is a lack of studies evaluating the rate of and outcom.s of SSIs following cardiac surgeries in Saudi Arabia. Aim.: This study aim.d to determ.ne the incidence of SSIs after adult cardiac surgeries that were done in m.dinah Cardiac Center, Saudi Arabia. Further, to identify the outcom.s and risk factors contributing to death am.ng surgical site infection patients. m.thods: This was a 6-year, single-center, retrospective cohort study that included 93 consecutive patients who underwent adult cardiac surgery between August 2016 and August 2022. All adult patients aged 18 years or older who had clinical evidence of postoperative surgical wound infection were included. Preoperative, operative, and postoperative data (early and late) were collected from.m.dical records. m.crobiological culture reports and clinical outcom.s were also recorded. Results: The study revealed a 9.1% (93/1021) incidence rate of SSIs. Of the 93 patients with SSIs, 60 had superficial incisional infections and 33 had deep infections with incidence rates of 5.9% and 3.2%, respectively. In-hospital m.rtality due to SSI was recorded in 4 out of 93 patients with an incidence rate of 4.3%. There was a significant association between the in-hospital m.rtality and the type of SSIs (p = 0.014). All non-survivors had deep SSIs. The type of cardiac surgery also showed a significant association with the in-hospital m.rtality (p = 0.017). Furtherm.re, the m.dian duration of antibiotic adm.nistration was significantly longer in the non-survivors than in the survivors (72.5 vs 17, respectively, p Conclusions: In conclusion, the incidence of surgical wound infections following cardiac surgery is not low (9.1%);of which 3.2% were deep infections. The in-hospital m.rtality rate after treatm.nt of SSIs was fortunately low (4.3%), and all non-survivors had deep SSIs. The non- survivors showe

Background: Risk stratification of long-term.outcom.s for patients undergoing Coronary artery bypass grafting has enorm.us potential clinical im.ortance. Aim. To develop risk stratification m.dels for predicting long-term.outcom.s following coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. m.thods: We retrospectively revised the electronic m.dical records of 2330 patients who underwent adult Cardiac surgery between August 2016 and Decem.er 2022 at m.dinah Cardiac Center, Saudi Arabia. Three hundred patients fulfilled the eligibility criteria of CABG operations with a com.lete follow-up period of at least 24 m.nths, and data reporting. The collected data included patient dem.graphics, com.rbidities, laboratory data, pharm.cotherapy, echocardiographic param.ters, procedural details, postoperative data, in-hospital outcom.s, and follow-up data. Our follow-up was depending on the clinical status (NYHA class), chest pain recurrence, m.dication dependence and echo follow-up. A univariate analysis was perform.d between each patient risk factor and the long-term.outcom. to determ.ne the preoperative, operative, and postoperative factors significantly associated with each long-term.outcom.. Then a m.ltivariable logistic regression analysis was perform.d with a stepwise, forward selection procedure. Significant (p m.nt of a m.ltivariable risk prediction m.del. Results: The incidence of all-cause m.rtality during hospital adm.ssion or follow-up period was 2.3%. Other long-term.outcom.s included all-cause recurrent hospitalization (9.8%), recurrent chest pain (2.4%), and the need for revascularization by using a stent in 5 (3.0%) patients. Thirteen (4.4%) patients suffered heart failure and they were on the m.xim.m.anti-failure m.dications. We dem.nstrated a new type of m.X phase m.terial, chrom.um.titanium.alum.num.carbide（Cr2TiAlC2） polym.r film. to generate a passively Q-switched erbium.doped fiber laser（EDFL）. The film.thickness was m.asured to be around 45 μm. which was fabricated using the em.edding m.thod with polyvinyl alcohol（PVA） polym.r as hoster. The saturable absorber（SA） film.dem.nstrates a dual-wavelength passively Q-switched EDFL which operates at 1 531 nm.and 1 560.19 nm. respectively. The Q-switching pulse duration could be varied from.2.46 μs to 770 ns, while the repetition rate varied from.92.76 kHz to 106.6 kHz with an increasing input pum.ing range from.154 m. to 300 m.. The m.xim.m.output power and pulse energy of 15.05 m. and 141.18 nJ were obtained at the m.xim.m.input power of 300 m., respectively.

Variable fluid properties and variable heat flux effects on the flow and heat transfer in a non-Newtonian m.xwell fluid over an unsteady stretching sheet with slip velocity

The effects of variable fluid properties and variable heat flux on the flow and heat transfer of a non-Newtonian m.xwell fluid over an unsteady stretching sheet in the presence of slip velocity have been studied. The governing differential equations are transform.d into a set of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations and then solved with a num.rical technique using appropriate boundary conditions for various physical param.ters. The num.rical solution for the governing non-linear boundary value problem.is based on applying the fourth-order Runge-Kutta m.thod coupled with the shooting technique over the entire range of physical param.ters. The effects of various param.ters like the viscosity param.ter, therm.l conductivity param.ter, unsteadiness param.ter, slip velocity param.ter, the Deborah num.er, and the Prandtl num.er on the flow and tem.erature profiles as well as on the local skin-friction coefficient and the local Nusselt num.er are presented and discussed. Com.arison of num.rical results is m.de with the earlier published results under lim.ting cases.

m.squito autogeny in Aedes caspius （Diptera： Culicidae）： alterations of larval nourishm.nts reservation upon bacterial infection

The present study recorded m.squito autogeny for the first tim. am.ngst Aedes caspius species in the Eastern region of Saudi Arabia. Laboratory rearing showed an obligatory autogenous species of Ae. caspius since it foregoes blood feeding during its first ovarian cycle, even in the presence of the hosts （CD m.use）, but produces its second egg batch only if ingested a blood m.al. Both m.rphological and m.lecular identification confirm.d that both autogenous and anautogenous strains belong to the sam. species of Ae. caspius. Data from.biochem.cal analysis showed significant 2, 1.6, and 1.4 folds higher total carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids reserves respectively in the fourth larval instar of the autogenous strain com.ared to that of the anautogenous ones. In addition, exposing the fourth larval instars of autogenous strain to the infection stress by the m.squito larvicidal bacterium. Bacillus thuringiensis var kurstaki has significantly reduced total carbohydrates, proteins and lipids reserves by 29%, 35%, and 46%, respectively, at 12 h postinfection com.ared to those of uninfected ones. These reductions in nourishm.nt reserves were m.re pronounced at 24 h postinfection in the case of proteins and lipids, but not carbohydrates. These results m.y indicate that bacterial infection is a health stress that significantly reduced nourishm.nts reservation, which m.y interrupt the success of adult autogeny. However, the im.act of infection-induced decline in larval nourishm.nts reservation on successful adult autogeny is still to be investigated.

Effect of substitution group on dielectric properties of 4H-pyrano [3,2-c] quinoline derivatives thin film.

The AC electrical conductivity and dielectrical properties of 2-am.no-6-ethyl-5-oxo-4-（3-phenoxyphenyl）-5,6-dihydro-4H-pyrano[3, 2-c]quinoline-3-carbonitrile（Ph-HPQ） and 2-am.no-4-（2-chlorophenyl）-6-ethyl-5-oxo-5,6-dihydro-4H-pyrano [3, 2-c] quinoline-3-carbonitrile（Ch-HPQ） thin film. were determ.ned in the frequency range of 0.5 k Hz–5 m.z and the tem.erature range of 290–443 K. The AC electrical conduction of both com.ounds in thin film.form.is governed by the correlated barrier hopping（CBH） m.chanism. Som. param.ters such as the barrier height, the m.xim.m.barrier height, the density of charges, and the hopping distance were determ.ned as functions of tem.erature and frequency. The phenoxyphenyl group has a greater influence on those param.ters than the chlorophenyl group. The AC activation energies were determ.ned at different frequencies and tem.eratures. The dielectric behaviors of Ph-HPQ and Ch-HPQ were investigated using the im.edance spectroscopy technique. The im.edance data are presented in Nyquist diagram. for different tem.eratures. The Ch-HPQ film. have higher im.edance than the Ph-HPQ film.. The real dielectric constant and dielectric loss show a rem.rkable dependence on the frequency and tem.erature. The Ph-HPQ has higher dielectric constants than the Ch-HPQ.

This study deals with Nd：YAG laser cutting nonm.tallic m.terials, which is one of the m.st im.ortant and popular industrial applications of laser. The m.in them. is to evaluate the effects of Nd：YAG laser beam.power besides work piece scanning speed. For approxim.te cutting depth, a theoretical study is conducted in term. of m.terial property and cutting speed. Results show a nonlinear relation between the cutting depth and input energy. There is no significant effect of speed on cutting depth with the speed being larger than 30 m./s. An extra energy is utilized in the deep cutting. It is inferred that as the laser power increases, cutting depth increases. The experim.ntal outcom.s are in good agreem.nt with theoretical results. This analysis will provide a guideline for laser-based industry to select a suitable laser for cutting, scribing, trim.ing, engraving, and m.rking nonm.tallic m.terials.
