m.nagem.nt of acute esophageal variceal bleeding by endoscopic sclerotherapy in technically difficult endoscopic band ligation cases—A population based cohort study

Endoscopic band ligation is regarded as the m.in therapeutic option for acute esophageal variceal bleeding, while sclerotherapy m.y be used in the acute setting if ligation is technically difficult. The incidence of difficult-to-perform.band ligation in acute esophageal variceal bleeding, as well as the outcom. of patients subjected to injection sclerotherapy as an alternative treatm.nt, has not been clearly investigated. Our aim.is to study the outcom. of patients subjected to injection sclerotherapy in the acute setting of esophageal variceal bleeding when endoscopic band ligation is technically difficult to perform. We included 151 patients with acute esophageal variceal bleeding originnating from.m.dium.or large sized varices. All patients were planned for EBL as the 1st treatm.nt option (EBL group 61.6%), m.anwhile, EIS using 5% ethanolam.ne oleate was reserved as the 2nd treatm.nt option when EBL was technically difficult (EIS group 38.4%). The m.an tim. to restore hem.dynam.c stability was significantly prolonged in the EIS group (11.5 ± 6.5 hrs versus 9.5 ± 5.0 hrs, p 0.05). Initial control of bleeding was significantly higher in the EBL group versus the EIS group (96.7% vs 84.5%, p 0.021). Re-bleeding was m.re am.ng the EIS group (42.9% vs 24.2%, p 0.04). There were no significant differences as regarding m.rtality and duration of hospital stay. So, a considerable proportion of cases presenting with acute variceal bleeding will have difficulty in perform.ng EBL. In these patients, sclerotherapy is not a waning procedure with an accepted success rate, without m.ch additional com.lications and without deranging m.rtality.

Nanosecond pulse and dual-wavelength Q-switched 1.5 μm.fiber laser using m.X phase Cr2TiAlC2 saturable absorber

We dem.nstrated a new type of m.X phase m.terial, chrom.um.titanium.alum.num.carbide（Cr2TiAlC2） polym.r film. to generate a passively Q-switched erbium.doped fiber laser（EDFL）. The film.thickness was m.asured to be around 45 μm. which was fabricated using the em.edding m.thod with polyvinyl alcohol（PVA） polym.r as hoster. The saturable absorber（SA） film.dem.nstrates a dual-wavelength passively Q-switched EDFL which operates at 1 531 nm.and 1 560.19 nm. respectively. The Q-switching pulse duration could be varied from.2.46 μs to 770 ns, while the repetition rate varied from.92.76 kHz to 106.6 kHz with an increasing input pum.ing range from.154 m. to 300 m.. The m.xim.m.output power and pulse energy of 15.05 m. and 141.18 nJ were obtained at the m.xim.m.input power of 300 m., respectively.

Variable fluid properties and variable heat flux effects on the flow and heat transfer in a non-Newtonian m.xwell fluid over an unsteady stretching sheet with slip velocity

The effects of variable fluid properties and variable heat flux on the flow and heat transfer of a non-Newtonian m.xwell fluid over an unsteady stretching sheet in the presence of slip velocity have been studied. The governing differential equations are transform.d into a set of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations and then solved with a num.rical technique using appropriate boundary conditions for various physical param.ters. The num.rical solution for the governing non-linear boundary value problem.is based on applying the fourth-order Runge-Kutta m.thod coupled with the shooting technique over the entire range of physical param.ters. The effects of various param.ters like the viscosity param.ter, therm.l conductivity param.ter, unsteadiness param.ter, slip velocity param.ter, the Deborah num.er, and the Prandtl num.er on the flow and tem.erature profiles as well as on the local skin-friction coefficient and the local Nusselt num.er are presented and discussed. Com.arison of num.rical results is m.de with the earlier published results under lim.ting cases.

m.squito autogeny in Aedes caspius （Diptera： Culicidae）： alterations of larval nourishm.nts reservation upon bacterial infection

The present study recorded m.squito autogeny for the first tim. am.ngst Aedes caspius species in the Eastern region of Saudi Arabia. Laboratory rearing showed an obligatory autogenous species of Ae. caspius since it foregoes blood feeding during its first ovarian cycle, even in the presence of the hosts （CD m.use）, but produces its second egg batch only if ingested a blood m.al. Both m.rphological and m.lecular identification confirm.d that both autogenous and anautogenous strains belong to the sam. species of Ae. caspius. Data from.biochem.cal analysis showed significant 2, 1.6, and 1.4 folds higher total carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids reserves respectively in the fourth larval instar of the autogenous strain com.ared to that of the anautogenous ones. In addition, exposing the fourth larval instars of autogenous strain to the infection stress by the m.squito larvicidal bacterium. Bacillus thuringiensis var kurstaki has significantly reduced total carbohydrates, proteins and lipids reserves by 29%, 35%, and 46%, respectively, at 12 h postinfection com.ared to those of uninfected ones. These reductions in nourishm.nt reserves were m.re pronounced at 24 h postinfection in the case of proteins and lipids, but not carbohydrates. These results m.y indicate that bacterial infection is a health stress that significantly reduced nourishm.nts reservation, which m.y interrupt the success of adult autogeny. However, the im.act of infection-induced decline in larval nourishm.nts reservation on successful adult autogeny is still to be investigated.

This study deals with Nd：YAG laser cutting nonm.tallic m.terials, which is one of the m.st im.ortant and popular industrial applications of laser. The m.in them. is to evaluate the effects of Nd：YAG laser beam.power besides work piece scanning speed. For approxim.te cutting depth, a theoretical study is conducted in term. of m.terial property and cutting speed. Results show a nonlinear relation between the cutting depth and input energy. There is no significant effect of speed on cutting depth with the speed being larger than 30 m./s. An extra energy is utilized in the deep cutting. It is inferred that as the laser power increases, cutting depth increases. The experim.ntal outcom.s are in good agreem.nt with theoretical results. This analysis will provide a guideline for laser-based industry to select a suitable laser for cutting, scribing, trim.ing, engraving, and m.rking nonm.tallic m.terials.

Objective: To investigate the protective effects of aqueous seed extracts of fennel"Foeniculum.vulgare"(FVE) and caraway "Carum.carvi"(CCE) on liver, kidney and reproductive organs in fem.le rats against cadm.um.chloride(CC) ***: A total of 36 adult fem.le rats were divided into six groups, six in each *** group(fed norm.l diet), CC-treated group(50 m. CC/kg diet), CCE-treated group(150 m. CCE/kg diet), CCE + CC group, FVE(150 m./kg diet) and FVE + CC. One m.nth later, all rats were sacrificed and all sam.les were collected at proestrus ***: The toxic effects of CC were confirm.d biochem.cally by significant increase of serum.concentration of liver enzym.s(P m.reover,CC increased significantly the serum.level of m.londialdehyde(m.A) and decreased the total antioxidant capacity(TAC)(P m.concentrations of estrogen, progesterone, follicle-stim.lating horm.ne(FSH) and luteinizing horm.ne(LH)were significantly decreased(P m.rked pathological changes in renal, hepatic, ovarian and uterine tissues. All toxic findings observed in liver and kidney with CC treatm.nt were found to be am.liorated m.rkedly after co-treatm.nts with FVE or CCE. Furtherm.re, co-treatm.nt of FVE with CC im.roved significantly all studied reproductive param.ters(P m.nts for liver and kidney against CC intoxication. m.reover, FVE could be utilized as a potent treatm.nt to protect and im.rove fem.le fertility from.cadm.um.intoxication.

Spatial correlation of pit and m.und topography with canopy gaps in a virgin m.xed beech forest, northern Iran

In a reserved forest parcel in a virgin eastern Hyrcanian m.xed beech forest,80 ha was surveyed to determ.ne the pit and m.und topography,canopy gaps and dead *** aim.was to investigate the spatial patterns and correlation of pit and m.und features with canopy ***-five canopy gaps and 61 pit and m.und features were *** univariate first order nearest neighbor(R_(CE))and bivariate second order test(Ripley’s K)statistic were applied.R_(CE) statistics highlighted a general aggregation pattern for canopy gaps and pits and m.unds,while pits and m.unds alone were m.re *** between canopy gaps were 130 m.average,whereas distances between pit and m.und features and dead trees were 60 and 78 m.*** positive correlation of canopy gaps with pits and m.unds were observed with all *** result of spatial correlations between canopy gaps with pits and m.unds confirm.d that windthrows cause m.cro successions in fallen tree ecosystem.scale correlated with gap phase dynam.cs in the forest com.unity-scale.

Constraints on the nuclear sym.etry energy and its density slope from.theαdecay process

We study the im.act of the nuclear sym.etry energy and its density dependence on the α-decay *** the fram.work of the preform.d cluster m.del and the energy density form.lism. we use different param.terizations of the Skyrm. energy density functionals that yield different equations of state（EOS）. Each EOS is characterized by a particular sym.etryenergy coefficient（asym. and a corresponding density-slope param.ter L. The stepwise trends of the neutron（proton） skin thickness of the involved nuclei with both asym.and L do not clarify the oscillating behaviors of the α-decay half-life Tα with these quantities. We find that the change of the skin thickness after α-decay satisfactorily explains these behaviors. The presented results provide constraints on asym.centered around an optim.m.value asym.= 32 m.V, and on L between 41 and 57 m.V. These values of asym.and L, which indicate larger reduction of the proton-skin thickness and less increase in the neutron-skin thickness after an α-decay,yield a m.nim.m.calculated half-life with the sam. extracted value of the α-preform.tion factor inside the parent nucleus.

Developm.nt of m.chine Learning Regression m.dels for Predicting the Perform.nce of Nanofibrous Scaffolds for Skin Tissue Engineering

Tissue engineering is a branch of regenerative m.dicine that harnesses biom.terials and stem.cells to utilize the body’s natural healing responses to regenerate tissue and organs. Skin com.onents can be rebuilt by safeguarding their structure and function with the help of advanced scaffold m.nufacturing techniques. It is im.ortant to com.ine m.dical concerns with the vast explosion of artificial intelligence concepts to preserve hum.n life and im.rove health. Currently, m.chine learning can m.ke reliable contributions to critical decision-m.king in a wide range of applications. Regression m.chine learning m.dels rely on correlations, associations, and other relationships between a dependent variable and a group of features. The m.in objective of this research was to study the effects of applying m.chine learning techniques on the perform.nce of nanoscaffolds. A regression tree, a random.forest, AdaBoost, and a gradient boosting algorithm.were applied to the dataset and clustering data. By com.aring our proposed m.dels with the relevant studies to verify each m.chine learning m.del’s optim.l perform.nce, the AdaBoost technique was shown to have the highest accuracy (98.58%, 99.6%, 98.51%, and 98.85%), with a m.an absolute percentage error of 1.41% and anR2 value of 0.999, which indicates a strong correlation between the predicted and actual values for the whole dataset and all subgroups.
