BACKGROUND Sudden death is unanticipated,non-violent death taking place within the first 24 h after the onset of *** is a major public health problem ***,the effects of living at moderate altitude on mortality are poorly *** To retrospectively report the frequency and the main causes of sudden deaths in relation to total deaths at Asir Central Hospital,2255 m above sea level,in the southern region of Saudi Arabia over a period of 4 years from 2013 to *** The medical records of 1821 deaths were examined and showed 353 cases(19.4%)of sudden *** The highest incidence of sudden death was among the elderly(51%),whereas,the lowest was among children and adolescents(6.5%).With regard to gender,the incidence of sudden death was higher in males(54.4%)compared to 45.6% in *** this study,we found that the most common direct causes of sudden death were cardiovascular diseases(29.2%),respiratory disease(22.7%),infectious disease(12.2%),cancer(9.4%)and hematological diseases(6.2%).With respect to seasonal variation,the highest incidence was during winter(31.32%)followed by summer(25.8%).CONCLUSION The results of this study will help emergency physicians and health care providers to exercise due care to reduce the incidence of sudden death and raise public awareness about the impact of sudden death.

The Luconia Province-offshore Sarawak-is a key geological unit for understanding the distribution of hydrocarbon resources in Malaysia. Nevertheless, little effort has been made to address the palaeoenvironmental characteristics of the Tertiary carbonates in the key sector of Central *** study the sedimentology and petrography of core samples from a well in Central Luconia, for which thirteen microfacies have been identified reflecting different depositional settings. This is the first microfacies scheme elaborated for Luconian carbonates. Lithofacies and microfacies distribution are compatible with deposition in a reef complex, originating around a framework reef, within the euphotic zone. Sediments were deposited in environments of backreef, reef crest, and forereef. The fair weather wave base is marked by the presence of coralline red algae, foraminifera, decreasing degree of bioclast fragmentation and other microfacies features. As a result, a depositional-environmental model is constructed, depicting a reef complex built around a framework reef developed on the margin of an isolated platform. In addition, an innovative, preliminary time series analysis of facies, microfacies and depositional environment data reveal the existence of seasonal cycles in the stacking patterns of facies and microfacies.

Background: Several treatment options have been proposed to treat lateral epicondylitis. Both Platelet rich plasma (PRP) and Extra-corporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) are new treatment modalities for tendinopathy. Patients and Methods: Thirty seven patients suffering from chronic lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) for at least six months were treated in this study. The patients were divided into two treatment groups, the first group including 20 patients treated by ESWT and the second group including 17 patients treated by local injection of platelet-rich plasma. The results were evaluated using the visual analogue scale and the DASH score. Results: In the first group (treated by ESWT), the average follow-up period was 21.55 months. The average VAS improved from 8.2 to 1.95 and the average DASH score improved from 72.25 to 51.7. Moreover, 11 cases were satisfied (55%), 3 cases (15%) were satisfied with reservation and 6 cases (30%) were not satisfied. In the second group (treated by PRP), the average follow-up period was 18.47 months. The average VAS improved from 8.52 to 1.47, the DASH score improved from 72 to 48.23. Concerning patient satisfaction, 13 cases were satisfied (83.33%), 3 cases (10.52%) were satisfied with reservation and 1 case (5.55%) was not satisfied. Conclusion: Platelet rich plasma was proved to achieve superior results when compared to ESWT as regards pain relief, improvement of elbow function and patient satisfaction at follow-up.

Open versus Arthroscopic Treatment of Post-Traumatic Stiff Elbow

Thirty three patients with post-traumatic stiff elbow were divided into two groups. The first group included 18 patients with an average age of 31.05 years treated by open arthrolysis. The second included 15 patients with an average age of 31.66 years treated by arthroscopic method. The results were evaluated using the Mayo clinic score and DASH score for elbow function. In the open group, after an average period of follow-up 19.33 months, the average range of flexion-extension movement improved from 51.11° to 103.94°. The average Mayo clinic score improved from 63.38 to 92.83 and the average DASH score improved from 68.1 to 40.23. There were 13 cases (72.22%) excellent, 4 cases (22.22%) good and 1 case (5.55%) with the poor result. In the arthroscopic group, after an average period of follow-up 17.73 months, the average range of flexion-extension movement improved from 59.46° to 101.53°. The average Mayo clinic score improved from 62.93 to 92.73 and the average DASH score improved from 69.25 to 46.4. There were 10 cases (66.66%) excellent, 3 cases (20%) good and 2 cases (13.33%) with the poor result. Both open and arthro-scopic treatment can be effective in treatment of post-traumatic stiff elbow. Arthroscopic treatment is associated with less post-operative pain and morbidity. However, open treatment provides better range of motion and marked improvement of elbow function.

Studies in recent years have shown that aquatic pollution by microplastics(MPs)can be considered to pose additional stress to amphibian ***,our knowledge of how MPs affect amphibians is very rudimentary,and even more limited is our understanding of their effects in combination with other emerging ***,we aimed to evaluate the possible toxicity of polyethylene MPs(PE-MPs)(alone or in combination with a mix of pollutants)on the health of Physalaemus cuvieri *** 30 days of exposure,multiple biomarkers were measured,including morphological,biometric,and developmental indices,behavioral parameters,mutagenicity,cytotoxicity,antioxidant and cholinesterase responses,as well as the uptake and accumulation of PE-MPs in *** on the results,there was no significant change in any of the parameters measured in tadpoles exposed to treatments,but induced stress was observed in tadpoles exposed to PE-MPs combined with themixture of pollutants,reflecting significant changes in physiological and biochemical *** principal component analysis(PCA)and integrated biomarker response(IBR)assessment,effects induced by pollutants in each test group were distinguished,confirming that the exposure of *** tadpoles to the PE-MPs in combination with a mix of emerging pollutants induces an enhanced stress response,although the uptake and accumulation of PE-MPs in these animalswas ***,our study provides newinsight into the danger to amphibians of MPs coexisting with other pollutants in aquatic environments.

The temperature dependences of the thermoelectric power, TEP, (S) and magnetoresistance (MR) effect of La1-xLixMnOy (x = 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2 & 0.25 at %) fixed valence doped compounds were studied between 80K and 320K. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) showed that the samples are single phase. We found the correlation of structures to the mag-netoresistance (MR) and the thermoelectric power (S) which we assigned to change the specific branches of the magnon /phonon spectra with x. We also observed a splitting of the Curie and the metal insulating temperature TC > Tms.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare two different surgical techniques for treating mild to moderate cases of hallux valgus. Methods: Forty-one patients (58 feet) with mild to moderate hallux valgus were treated by either percutaneous technique (n = 24) patients (33 feet) or by distal chevron osteotomy (n = 17) (25 feet). Results: In the percutaneous group, after a mean follow up of 49.36 months, the mean correction of hallux valgus angle (HV) was 26.69°in the intermetatarsal angle, average correction was 9.45°. The mean improvement of American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Score (AOFAS) was 46.45 points. In the chevron osteotomy group, the mean follow up of 51.56 months, the mean correction of hallux valgus angle was 26.78°in the intermetatarsal angle, average correction was 9°. The mean improvement of AOFAS was 44.76 points. Conclusion: Both techniques gave satisfactory results. However, the percutaneous technique is safer than the distal chevron osteotomy.

The Gulf of Aqaba (GOA) is unique as it contains significant percentage of the world’s natural marine biodiversity. This unique environment is potentially vulnerable to pollution particularly at its northern tip. One of the major activities affecting the environment of the gulf is the man-made desalination plants that abstract sea water and dispose desalinated brine. In this context, the paper discusses the impact of the abstract and disposal activities on the GOA environment. A 3D hydrodynamic model was developed to cover the GOA. Relevant data were collected for 3D hydrodynamic modeling construction. Delft-3D model developed by Deltares was applied in this study. The 3D model reliability was confirmed since the model results have revealed the existence of a structure of primary eddies along the axis of the Gulf which was previously reported by different researchers. Further numerical simulations were carried out by incorporating various alternatives of seawater abstraction and desalinated brine disposal off the north and north east coast of the GOA. The developed GOA hydrodynamic model, at the present stage, is preliminary where the results provide qualitative assessment on the potential impacts on the water circulation. Accordingly, this study is considered a pace ahead for a better model development and validation in the future studies.

口译是一个跨文化的过程,口译员不仅在语言层面转化字词,更需要把意义传达到目标语中。为了确保传译过程成功,口译员必须保持流畅、准确易懂。然而,有时由于一些语言表达过程的问题(如冗余),实现这样的目标变得具有挑战性。口译过程中的冗余现象是常见的口译问题,但背后的原因却不尽相同。本论文研究了B-To-B传译中冗余的发生。据研究人员所知,这个问题没有被任何语言学家或翻译理论家详细提及并作为研究对象,因为口译员大多数情况下从事B语言到A语言的翻译,也有时从A语言翻译成B语言。从B语言翻译到B语言的情况较为少见。但在全球化快速发展的世界中,市场对多语言者的需求也在增长。笔者认为现在阐明并研究非母语者在口译过程中面临的让口译过程不流利的挑战有一定实践意义。本文试图探讨其中挑战之一“冗余”。以笔者的口译案例为研究对象,分析B语言译入B语言中冗余现象出现的具体表现,分析其原因,并提出相应对策。
