The Incidence Rate of Complications among Patients of Benign Intracranial Hypertension after Lumbo-Peritoneal Shunt Procedure Operation

Background: Lumboperitoneal (LP) shunts have been used to manage benign intracranial hypertension (BIH) for an extended period. While they may swiftly and effectively alleviate symptoms, their application is accompanied by potential complications. Objectives: This research aimed to retrospectively analyze the difficulties and complications related to LP shunt implantation. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of the records of 47 patients who had LP shunt placement for the treatment of BIH at our hospital throughout the research period. A thorough history and physical examination were conducted in every case. All patients were asked about age, gender, body mass index, neurological history, and oral contraceptive usage. Post-operative complications, clinical and ophthalmological follow-up occurred at 1, 3, and 6 months post-op. Results: Patients were mostly women (93.6%). The mean age of the patients was 35, and 80.9 percent had BMIs exceeding 25. Many female patients (40.9%) used oral contraceptives. Nearly all patients (93.6%) reported decreased vision, and 87.2% suffered headaches. The most common issue was shunt obstruction (51%), followed by low tension headaches (63.8%). The peritoneal side (10.6%) had higher shunt slippage than the thecal (2.1%). Superficial infections and radiculopathy affected 10.6% of patients, whereas CNS infections, arachnoiditis, and shunt failure affected just 2.1%. Five patients (10.6%) had Chiari malformation, and 60% had syringomyelia. Conclusion: Using LP shunts to treat BIH seems to be a method devoid of major risks despite the high revision rates. At the same time, more severe complications such as CNS infections, arachnoiditis, and shunt failure were less common.

Supersymmetric hybrid inflation in light of CMB experiments and swampland conjectures

In this study,we revisit supersymmetric(SUSY)hybrid inflation within the context of considering the latest Cosmic Microwave Background(CMB)observations and swampland *** demonstrate that SUSY hybrid inflation remains consistent with Planck 2018 data when radiative,soft mass,and supergravity(SUGRA)corrections are applied to the scalar *** is commonly perceived that SUSY hybrid inflation with a minimal Kahler potential results in a gauge symmetry breaking scale M of O(10^(15))GeV,leading to issues with the proton decay *** our analysis,we introduce a novel parameter space that alleviates the proton decay issue by achieving M~10^(16) GeV with M_(S)^(2)*** scenario necessitates a soft SUSY breaking scale|M_(S)|■10^(6) ***,we find that the tensor-to-scalar ratio r spans from 10^(-16) to 10^(-6),indicating a very small *** small ratio allows the modified swampland criteria to hold,although satisfying the trans-Planckian censorship conjecture(TCC)remains *** address this,we also explo non-minimal Kahler *** fixing the spectral index at n_(S)=0.9665,consistent with the central value of Planck 2018 data,and setting M=2×10^(16)GeV,we present our *** show that the canonical measure of primordial gravitational waves,r,for M_(S)=1 TeV,m_(3/2)=1 TeV,and k_(S)<0 for N=1 and N=2,ranges from 10^(-5) to 0.01,rendering it detectable by Planck and upcoming experiments such as LiteBIRD,Simons Observatory,PRISM,PIXIE,CORE,CMB-S4,and ***,we outline the parametric space and provide benchmark points for the non-minimal case to ensure compatibility with both the modified swampland conjecture and TCC.

Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Traditional and Nano Materials Used in Consolidation of Sandstone Used in Ramesses III Temple, Karnak, Egypt

This experimental study assesses the effectiveness of traditional and nano-materials in enhancing the physical and mechanical properties of deteriorated sandstone from Ramesses III Temple, Karnak, Luxor, Egypt. Treatments included Nano Estel (5%), Paraloid B-72 (3%), Paraloid B-72/Nano Estel (3%/5%), and ethyl silicates. Treated samples underwent Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and physical/mechanical testing. Results show that Paraloid B-72/Nano Estel (3%/5%) yielded optimal consolidation, significantly improving sandstone’s physical and mechanical properties.

Generalized uncertainty principle from the regularized self-energy

We use the Schrödinger–Newton equation to calculate the regularized self-energy of a particle using a regular self-gravitational and electrostatic potential derived in string *** particle mass M is no longer concentrated into a point but is diluted and described by a quantum-corrected smeared energy density resulting in corrections to the energy of the particle,which is interpreted as a regularized *** extend our results and find corrections to the relativistic particles using the Klein–Gordon,Proca and Dirac *** important finding is that we extract a form of the generalized uncertainty principle(GUP)from the corrected *** form of the GUP is shown to depend on the nature of particles;namely,for bosons(spin 0 and spin 1)we obtain a quadratic form of the GUP,while for fermions(spin 1/2)we obtain a linear *** correlation we find between spin and GUP may offer insights for investigating quantum gravity.

We demonstrated a new type of MAX phase material,chromium titanium aluminum carbide(Cr_(2)TiAlC_(2)) polymer film,to generate a passively Q-switched erbium-doped fiber laser(EDFL).The film thickness was measured to be around 45 μm,which was fabricated using the embedding method with polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) polymer as *** saturable absorber(SA) film demonstrates a dual-wavelength passively Q-switched EDFL which operates at 1 531 nm and 1 560.19 nm,*** Q-switching pulse duration could be varied from 2.46 μs to 770 ns,while the repetition rate varied from 92.76 kHz to 106.6 kHz with an increasing input pumping range from 154 mW to 300 *** maximum output power and pulse energy of 15.05 mW and 141.18 nJ were obtained at the maximum input power of 300 mW,respectively.

Effect of nursing intervention on improving awareness of high-risk patients about stroke prevention

Objective: Stroke is perceived as a serious illness although it is preventable, and lifestyle alterations can be made to reduce its risk. Improvement of stroke care should be achieved through awareness of public, especially through high-risk group. Henceforth, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nursing intervention on improving awareness of high-risk people about stroke prevention. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was used to carry out this study, where a purposive sample of 80 adult patients at high risk for stroke were enrolled while they were attending the out-patient clinics of Zagazig University Hospitals for follow-up treatment;they were divided into two groups: case (40 patients) and control (40 patients). An interview questionnaire was used to assess patients’ knowledge regarding warning signs, risk factors, and immediate treatment;attitude;and their practice for prevention for stroke at pretest and posttest. Results: The study revealed the poor level of knowledge, bad level of preventive behavior, and negative attitude regarding stroke prevention at pre-intervention. However, after intervention, the high-risk people had fair level of knowledge with moderate practice for stroke prevention and positive attitude, with statistically significant difference between pre-post intervention and between the case and control groups. Conclusions: The study revealed that the nursing intervention seemed to change the knowledge, practice, and attitude of subjects regarding stroke prevention. This, in turn, implies that awareness of prevention of stroke and high-risk factor control could be important to reduce the burden of stroke in Egypt. Thus, further research on a larger scale is required to improve population knowledge and behavior for stroke prevention and control.

Developing cost-effective and high-performance catalyst systems for dry reforming of methane(DRM)is crucial for producing hydrogen(H_(2))***,we investigate using iron(Fe)as a promoter and major alumina support in Ni-based catalysts to improve their DRM *** addition of iron as a promotor was found to add reducible iron species along with reducible NiO species,enhance the basicity and induce the deposition of oxidizable *** incorporating 1 wt.%Fe into a 5Ni/10ZrAl catalyst,a higher CO_(2) interaction and formation of reducible"NiO-species having strong interaction with support"was observed,which led to an∼80%H_(2) yield in 420 min of Time on Stream(TOS).Further increasing the Fe content to 2 wt.%led to the formation of additional reducible iron oxide species and a noticeable rise in H_(2) yield up to 84%.Despite the severe weight loss on Fe-promoted catalysts,high H_(2) yield was maintained due to the proper balance between the rate of CH_(4) decomposition and the rate of carbon deposit ***,incorporating 3 wt.%Fe into the 5Ni/10ZrAl catalyst resulted in the highest CO_(2) interaction,wide presence of reducible NiO-species,minimumgraphitic deposit and an 87%H_(2) *** findings suggest that ironpromoted zirconia-alumina-supported Ni catalysts can be a cheap and excellent catalytic system for H_(2) production via DRM.

Effects of Avian Wings Color Patterns on Their Flight Performance:Experimental and Computational Studies

There are many theories behind the colors of a bird’s *** of these theories point to the color’s purpose to attract mates and hide from *** recent investigations concluded that the dark colors of birds help in reducing the drag force during flight.A new theory is presented in the current research,which states that a bird's dark color not only reduces the drag,but the color pattern also improves the overall flight performance,and each color pattern has a different type of flight performance *** difference in improvement is a result of variation in hot and cold surfaces on the bird skin as a result of the variation between light and dark feather *** prove this new theory,thermal images were captured of real bird wings under the effect of infrared ***,a novel wind tunnel wing with the ability to adjust the temperature in desired locations and patterns on the wing’s surface was manufactured and tested to evaluate the effect of aerodynamics forces as a function in the surface temperature and the hot–cold *** collected data from this wing showed potential flight efficiency improvements of 20%,comparing the lift-to-drag ratio for specific heating cases,which could increase the flight *** considering lift and drag,there were specific heating cases with corresponding angles of attack in which these parameters improved by up to 20%and 7%,*** heating cases could increase the lift at a low angle of attack,which is helpful in cruise flight performance,while some cases could increase the maximum lift coefficient by 6%.This is very helpful in lowering stall and the minimum flight ***,some cases could increase the lift-to-drag ratio,which led to an increase in the flight *** better understand the effect of the various patterns,computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulations were conducted on the *** new theory was proved based on the CFD results and verified through the success
