The blend of nickel phthalocyanine （NiPc）（2 wt. %） poly-N-epoxypropylcarbazole （PEPC）, （1 wt. %） and carbon nano-tube （CNT） powder （2 wt. %） in benzole is deposited by drop-casting on glass substrates with pre-deposited metallic electrodes to fabricate Ag/CNT/NiPc/PEPC/A1 surface type cell. It is assumed that the high nonlinearity of the I — V characteristics is related to deep traps in the nano-scale depletion region in NiPc that is observed experimentally. The values of ideality factor and barrier height are determined from the I — V curve and they are found to be 8.4 and 1.05eV, respectively. The values of mobility and conductivity are calculated to be 7.94 × 10？8 cm/Vs and 3.5 × 10？6 Ω？1 cm？1. The values of ideality factor and series resistance are also calculated by using Cheung＇s functions, which are in good agreement with the values calculated from the I — V curve.

Gafchromic external beam therapy 3(EBT3)film has widely been used in medical field ***,the EBT3 film’s color gradually changes from light green to darker color under incremental exposures by ionizing or even non-ionizing ultraviolet(UV)*** absorbance of the EBT3 film can be used to predict absorbed doses by the ***,until today,related researches still rely on spectrometers for color analysis of EBT3 ***,this paper presents a comparative analysis between results produced by the spectrometer and a much simpler light-emitting diode-photodiode based system in profiling the color changes of EBT3 films after exposure by solar UV *** work has been conducted on a set of 50 EBT3 samples with incremental solar UV exposure(doses).The wavelength in the red region has the best sensitivity in profiling the color changes of EBT3 films for low solar UV exposure *** study foresees the ability of blue wavelength to profile films with a large range of solar UV *** LED(light emitting diode)-based optical system has produced comparable measurement accuracies to the spectrometer and thus,with a potential for replacing the need for a multipurpose spectroscopy system for simple measurement of light attenuation.

Hybrid locomotive concepts have been considered as a step towards converting the railway industry into a green transport *** of the challenges in integrating a hybrid locomotive in the train consist is that the battery pack in the locomotive needs to be recharged during a long-haul trip which requires stopping of the train.A typical battery pack requires about 1 h to recharge which is *** the improvement in the charging system,it is now possible that the same capacity battery pack could be recharged in 10–12 min which can be a competitive option for the railway *** paper proposes a method based on simulation to evaluate the positioning of charging stations on a train network.A typical example of a heavy haul train operation hauled by diesel-electric and hybrid locomotives is used to demonstrate the method by using simulation *** result of the simulation study show that the method developed in this paper can be used to evaluate the state of charge(SoC)status of a hybrid locomotive along the *** is also shown that the SoC status obtained by the simulation method can be further used to assess the positions of charging stations along the track at the design stage.

Pancreaticoduodenectomy: a comparison of superior approach with classical Whipple's technique

BACKGROUND: Pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is the standard procedure for resecting tumors arising from the periampullary area and the pancreatic head. Nevertheless this procedure is inherently difficult and associated with high morbidity and mortality. Besides, the technique applied for exposing the portal and superior mesenteric veins is time-consuming, difficult and associated with the risk of major venous injury. Recently we have introduced a modified approach for making this part of the procedure quick, safe and bloodless, which constitutes the subject of this study. METHODS: Patients who underwent pylorus preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (PPPD) either by superior approach technique (group 1) or by classical Whipple’s technique (group 2) were retrospectively identified. Age-sex composition, body mass index (BMI), total operative time, operative blood loss, intraoperative blood transfusion requirement, morbidity, mortality and length of hospital stay were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Between January 1997 and December 2011, 72 patients underwent PPPD by the superior approach technique (group 1) and 38 underwent PPPD by the classical Whipple’s technique (group 2) at our institution. Statistically significant differences were observed in operative time (208.1±46.3 minutes in group 1 vs 322.0±33.8 minutes in group 2), operative blood loss (601.0±250.3 mL in group 1 vs 1371.5±471.8 mL in group 2), and intraoperative blood transfusion requirement [10 (13.9%) patients in group 1 and 24 (63.2%) in group 2]. Among 18 (16.4%) obese patients, significant differences in operativetime, operative blood loss and intraoperative blood transfusion requirement were observed between groups 1 and 2. There was no significant inter-group difference in complication rate among obese patients, but comparing obese patients with normal weight patients revealed higher rates of complications like pancreatic fistula (27.8% vs 6.5%), delayed gastric emptying (16.7% vs 5.4%), and in
