Wind power prediction interval(WPPI)models in the literature have predominantly been developed for and tested on specific case studies.However,wind behavior and characteristics can vary significantly across regions.Thus,a prediction model that performs well in one case might underperform in another.To address this shortcoming,this paper proposes an ensemble WPPI framework that integrates multiple WPPI models with distinct characteristics to improve robustness.Another important and often overlooked factor is the role of probabilistic wind power prediction(WPP)in quantifying wind power uncertainty,which should be handled by operating reserve.Operating reserve in WPPI frameworks enhances the efficacy of WPP.In this regard,the proposed framework employs a novel bi-layer optimization approach that takes both WPPI quality and reserve requirements into account.Comprehensive analysis with different real-world datasets and various benchmark models validates the quality of the obtained WPPIs while resulting in more optimal reserve requirements.

A compressible lattice Boltzmann-finite difference method is extended by the phase-field approach into a monolithic scheme to study fluid flow and heat transfer through regular arrangements of solid bodies of circular,elliptical and irregular shapes.The advantage of using the phase-field method is demon-strated both in its simplicity of accounting for flow and thermal boundary conditions at solid surfaces with irregular shapes and in the capability of generating such complex-shaped objects.For an array of discs,numerical results for the overall solid-to-gas heat transfer rate are validated via experiments on flow through arrays of hot cylinders.The thus validated compressible LB-FD-PF hybrid scheme is used to study the dependence of heat transfer on flow and thermal boundary conditions(Reynolds number,temperature difference between the hot solid bodies and the inlet gas),porosity as well as on the shape of solid objects.Results are rationalized in terms of the residence time of the gas close to the solid body and downstream variations of gas velocity and temperature.Perspective for further applications of the proposed methodology are also discussed.

Piezoelectric materials have been vastly used in ultrasonic transducers for medical imaging.In this paper,firstly,the most promising lead-free compositions with perovskite structure for medical imaging applications have been reviewed.The electromechanical properties of various lead-free ceramics,composites,and single crystals based on barium titanate,bismuth sodium titanate,potassium sodium niobate,and lithium niobate are presented.Then,fundamental principles and design considerations of ultrasonic transducers are briefly described.Finally,recent developments in lead-free ultrasonic probes are discussed and their acoustic performance is compared to lead-based transducers.Focused transducers with different beam focusing methods such as lens focusing and mechanical shaping are explained.Additionally,acoustic characteristics of lead-free probes including the pulse-echo results as well as their imaging capabilities for various applications such as phantom imaging,in vitro intravascular ultrasound imaging of swine aorta,and in vivo or ex vivo imaging of human eyes and skin are reviewed.

Implications of Dynamic Interactions between Meteorological Patterns and Surface Water Quality on Environmental Health—A Case Study of the Nairobi River

Urban areas face significant challenges in maintaining water quality amidst increasing urbanization and changing climatic patterns. This study investigates the complex interplay between meteorological variables and water quality parameters in Nairobi City, focusing on the impacts of rainfall and temperature on surface water quality. Data from multiple sources, including the Water Resources Authority, Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company, and the World Bank’s Climate Change Knowledge Portal, were analyzed to assess the relationships between meteorological variables (rainfall and temperature) and water quality parameters (such as electroconductivity, biochemical oxygen demand, chloride, and pH). The analysis reveals varying impacts of rainfall and temperature on different water quality parameters. While parameters like iron and pH show strong relationships with both rainfall and temperature, others such as ammonia and nitrate exhibit moderate relationships. Additionally, the study highlights the influence of runoff, urbanization, and industrial activities on water quality, emphasizing the need for holistic management approaches. Recommendations encompass the establishment of annual publications on Nairobi River water quality, online accessibility of water quality data, development of hydrological models, spatial analysis, and fostering cross-disciplinary research collaborations. Implementing these recommendations can enhance water quality management practices, mitigate risks, and safeguard environmental integrity in Nairobi City.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate anticancer efficacy of green tea extract(GTE) on PC3 prostate cancer cells. METHODS: By using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR) and Western blot methods, the expression of miR-195 and the epithelial to mesenchymal transition(EMT) markers such as E-cadherin and vimentin was analyzed. RESULTS: Based on the results of 2D and 3D cell culture models, the inhibition of EMT and up regulation of miR-195 expression were detected. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings will be helpful to design anti-tumor regimens with natural product original, and more studies will be required to identify the related mechanisms involving anticancer activities of green tea via miRNAs.

Stochastic models play an important role in achieving high accuracy in positioning,the ideal estimator in the least-squares(LS)can be obtained only by using the suitable stochastic model.This study investigates the role of variance component estimation(VCE)in the LS method for Precise Point Positioning(PPP).This estimation is performed by considering the ionospheric-free(IF)functional model for code and the phase observation of Global Positioning System(GPS).The strategy for estimating the accuracy of these observations was evaluated to check the effect of the stochastic model in four modes:a)antenna type,b)receiver type,c)the tropospheric effect,and d)the ionosphere effect.The results show that using empirical variance for code and phase observations in some cases caused erroneous estimation of unknown components in the PPP model.This is because a constant empirical variance may not be suitable for various receivers and antennas under different conditions.Coordinates were compared in two cases using the stochastic model of nominal weight and weight estimated by LS-VCE.The position error difference for the east-west,north-south,and height components was 1.5 cm,4 mm,and 1.8 cm,respectively.Therefore,weight estimation with LS-VCE can provide more appropriate results.Eventually,the convergence time based on four elevation-dependent models was evaluated using nominal weight and LS-VCE weight.According to the results,the LS-VCE has a higher convergence rate than the nominal weight.The weight estimation using LS-VCE improves the convergence time in four elevation-dependent models by 11,13,12,and 9 min,respectively.

This study employs the kinetics framework of Marcus-Hush-Chidsey(MHC)to investigate the charge transfer at the interface of lithium electrode and electrolyte in lithium(ion)-batteries.The chargetransfer rate constant is evaluated for different facets of lithium,namely(100),(110),(101),and(111)as a function of surface charge density with the aid of density functional theory(DFT)calculations.The results highlight and quantify the sensitivity of the rate of lithium plating and stripping to the surface orientation,surface charge density,and charge-transfer over-potential.An intrinsic kinetics competition among the different surface orientations is identified together with an asymmetry between the lithium plating and stripping and showcased to influence the deposit morphology and surface protrusions and indentations.

The existing incipient sediment motion models typically apply conventional regression methods considering either velocity or shear stress.In the current study,incipient sediment motion is analyzed through a simultaneous and joint analysis of velocity and shear stress using the robust low-rank learning(RLRL) multi-output regression technique.Moreover,the experimental data compiled from five different channels are utilized to develop a generic incipient sediment motion model valid for a channel of any cross-sectional shape.The efficiency of the developed method is examined and compared against the available conventional regression models.The experimental results indicate that the RLRL model yields better results than its counterparts.In particular,while cross-section specific models fail to provide accurate estimates for shear stress or velocity for other cross sections,the proposed model provides satisfactory results for all channel shapes.The better performance of the recommended approach can be attributed to the joint modeling of the shear stress and the velocity which is realized by capturing the correlation between these parameters in terms of a low rank output mixing matrix which enhances the prediction performance of the approach.

Shallow carbonate deposits(Tarbur Formation)were formed in the Zagros foreland basin with dynamic tectonics during the Maastrichtian age.From the viewpoint of reconstruction of depositional conditions in these deposits,studies of biostratigraphy,microfacies,microtaphofacies,and sequence stratigraphy were performed in a single area at Tang-e Shabi Khoon,northwest of Zagros.Based on the identification of two assemblage zones consisting of benthic foraminifera in these strata,the formation was deposited during the middle to late Maastrichtian.The number of cycles in test size and type of coiling in Loftusia decreased from the study area toward the northwest of the Neotethys basin.The input of clastic sediments affected the distribution of Loftusia and rudists in the study area.Nine microfacies,six microtaphofacies,and one terrigenous facies(shale)were identified based on the sedimentary features.These deposits of the middle-late Maastrichtian were deposited on a homoclinal carbonate ramp.The platform can be divided into restricted and semi-restricted lagoon,shoal,and open marine environments.In the study area,the deposits of the Tarbur Formation were deposited during four third-order depositional sequences.Local fault activities affected the formation of depositional sequences in the study area.
