Background:The public knowledge and adherence to the established coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)precautionary measures are crucial to Nigeria’s war against the *** health education on its preventive practices at the grassroots level was initially crucial to achieving a lower COVID-19 incidence in Kwara State,***:We assessed the knowledge of,and adherence to COVID-19 precautionary measures at the community level among 795 respondents from the three senatorial zones of Kwara ***:54.5%(433/795)of the respondents were aged between 21 and 40 years,and 45.9%(365/795)of the respondents had a bachelor’s degree or *** participants had a good knowledge of COVID-19,its symptoms,and its mode of transmission.91.8%of the respondents(730/795)had a positive perception of the COVID19 preventive measures while 96.1%(763/795)of the respondents agreed that maintaining social distance was important in curbing the COVID-19 ***,only 38%(302/795)of them used face masks and only 25.7%(204/795)of the respondents used hand *** addition,only 31.9%(253/795)of the respondents isolated themselves when they were ***-variable logistic regression analysis revealed that education,occupation,gender,and ethnicity were significantly associated with positive COVID-19 preventive practices among residents of Kwara *** servants were more likely(AOR:3.14;95%confidence interval[CI]:0.67 to 14.82;P=0.034)to have positive preventive attitudes than other *** participants with tertiary education and those that were Yoruba(ethnicity)were 14.81 times more likely(95%CI:4.29 to 51.05;P=0.001)and 5.19 times more likely(95%CI:1.82 to 14.84;P=0.007)to have positive attitudes towards the laid-down COVID-19 preventive measures ***:The poor community adherence to the COVID-19 preventive practices could pre-dispose Kwara to more COVID-19 *** community engagement activities are needed to fully curb the

Profiling neuroprotective potential of trehalose in animal models of neurodegenerative diseases:a systematic review

Trehalose,a unique nonreducing crystalline disaccharide,is a potential disease-modifying treatment for neurodegenerative diseases associated with protein misfolding and aggregation due to aging,intrinsic mutations,or autophagy *** systematic review summarizes the effects of trehalose on its underlying mechanisms in animal models of selected neurodegenerative disorders(tau pathology,synucleinopathy,polyglutamine tract,and motor neuron diseases).all animal studies on neurodegenerative diseases treated with trehalose published in Medline(accessed via EBSCOhost)and Scopus were *** the 2259 studies screened,29 met the eligibility *** to the SYstematic Review Center for Laboratory Animal Experiment(SYRCLE)risk of bias tool,we reported 22 out of 29 studies with a high risk of *** present findings support the purported role of trehalose in autophagic flux and protein *** review identified several other lesser-known pathways,including modifying amyloid precursor protein processing,inhibition of reactive gliosis,the integrity of the blood-brain barrier,activation of growth factors,upregulation of the downstream antioxidant signaling pathway,and protection against mitochondrial *** absence of adverse events and improvements in the outcome parameters were observed in some studies,which supports the transition to human clinical *** is possible to conclude that trehalose exerts its neuroprotective effects through both direct and indirect ***,heterogeneous methodologies and outcome measures across the studies rendered it impossible to derive a definitive *** studies on trehalose would need to clarify three important questions:1)bioavailability with oral administration,2)optimal time window to confer neuroprotective benefits,and 3)optimal dosage to confer neuroprotection.

Risk modification of colorectal cancer susceptibility by interleukin-8-251T>A polymorphism in Malaysians

AIM: To investigate the allele and genotype frequencies and associated risk of interleukin (IL)-8-251T>A polymorphism on colorectal cancer (CRC) susceptibility risk. METHODS: Peripheral blood samples of 255 normal controls and 255 clinically and histopathologically confirmed CRC patients were genotyped for IL-8-251T>A polymorphism employing allele-specific polymerase chain reaction. The relative association of variant allele and genotypes with CRC susceptibility risk was determined by calculating the odds ratios (ORs). Corresponding χ 2 tests on the CRC patients and controls were carried out and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were determined using Fisher's exact test. The allele frequencies and its risk association were calculated using FAMHAP, haplotype association analysis software. RESULTS: On comparing the frequencies of genotypesof patients and controls, the homozygous variant AA was significantly higher in CRC patients (P = 0.002) compared to controls. Investigation on the association of the polymorphic genotypes with CRC susceptibility risk, showed that the homozygous variant IL-8 -251AA had a significantly increased risk with OR 3.600 (95% CI: 1.550-8.481, P = 0.001). In the case of allele frequencies, variant allele A of IL-8 -251 showed a significantly increased risk of CRC predisposition with OR 1.32 (95% CI: 1.03-1.69,P = 0.003). CONCLUSION: Variant allele and genotype of IL-8 (-251 T>A) was significantly associated with CRC susceptibility risk and could be considered as a high-risk variant for CRC predisposition.

Purpose–The purpose of this paper is to propose a layered adjustable autonomy(LAA)as a dynamically adjustable autonomy model for a multi-agent *** is mainly used to efficiently manage humans’and agents’shared control of autonomous systems and maintain humans’global control over the ***/methodology/approach–The authors apply the LAA model in an agent-based autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)*** UAV system implementation consists of two parts:software and *** software part represents the controller and the cognitive,and the hardware represents the computing machinery and the actuator of the UAV *** UAV system performs three experimental scenarios of dance,surveillance and search *** selected scenarios demonstrate different behaviors in order to create a suitable test plan and ensure significant ***–The results of the UAV system tests prove that segregating the autonomy of a system as multidimensional and adjustable layers enables humans and/or agents to perform actions at convenient autonomy ***,reducing the adjustable autonomy drawbacks of constraining the autonomy of the agents,increasing humans’workload and exposing the system to ***/value–The application of the LAA model in a UAV manifests the significance of implementing dynamic adjustable *** the autonomy within three phases of agents run cycle(taskselection,actions-selection and actions-execution)is an original idea that aims to direct agents’autonomy toward performance *** agents’abilities are well exploited when an incompetent agent switches with a more competent one.

Energy generation and consumption are the main aspects of social life due to the fact that modern people’s necessity for energy is a crucial ingredient for existence. Therefore, energy efficiency is regarded as the best economical approach to provide safer and affordable energy for both utilities and consumers, through the enhancement of energy security and reduction of energy emissions. One of the problems of cloud computing service providers is the high rise in the cost of energy, efficiency together with carbon emission with regards to the running of their internet data centres (IDCs). In order to mitigate these issues, smart micro-grid was found to be suitable in increasing the energy efficiency, sustainability together with the reliability of electrical services for the IDCs. Therefore, this paper presents idea on how smart micro-grids can bring down the disturbing cost of energy, carbon emission by the IDCs with some level of energy efficiency all in an effort to attain green cloud computing services from the service providers. In specific term, we aim at achieving green information and communication technology (ICT) in the field of cloud computing in relations to energy efficiency, cost-effectiveness and carbon emission reduction from cloud data center’s perspective.

The antibacterial activities,cytotoxicity,and wound healing of amine(3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES))-functionalised zeolite Y against normal human fibroblast cells were *** characterisation of unmodified and amine-functionalised zeolites Y (Z,ZA 0.04,ZA 0.4,and ZA 0.6) by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray powder diffraction,and energy dispersive X-ray analysis proved that the APTES molecules were grafted onto the zeolite Y surface without distorting its framework *** amine-functionalised zeolite Y samples possessed antibacterial activities against several ATCC bacteria that were correlated with the increased amount of APTES on the zeolite Y ***,when a higher concentration of APTES was grafted on the zeolite Y,higher cytotoxicity was observed against the fibroblast *** the ZA 0.6 sample (zeolite Y functionalised with 0.6 M of APTES) had higher antibacterial activity,it was cytotoxic to the ***,the selection of an antibacterial agent for human treatment purposes must also consider its cytotoxicity effect against human cells to ensure it is biocompatible.

XPC Lys939Gln polymorphism, smoking and risk of sporadic colorectal cancer among Malaysians

AIM: To investigate the risk association of xeroderma pigmentosum group C (XPC ) Lys939Gln polymorphism alone and in combination with cigarette smoking on colorectal cancer (CRC) predisposition. METHODS: Peripheral blood samples of 510 study subjects (255 CRC patients, 255 controls)were collected. DNA was extracted and genotyping was performed using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. The association between polymorphic genotype and CRC predisposition was determined using the OR and 95%CI. RESULTS: The frequency of the homozygous variant (Gln/Gln) genotype was significantly higher in cases compared with controls (16.0% vs 10.2%, P = 0.049). The Gln/Gln genotype of XPC showed a significantly higher association with the risk of CRC (OR = 1.884; 95%CI: 1.082-3.277; P = 0.025). In the case of allele frequencies, variant allele C was associated with a significantly increased risk of CRC (OR = 1.375; 95%CI: 1.050-1.802; P = 0.020). Moreover, the risk was markedly higher for those who were carriers of the Gln/Gln variant genotype and were also cigarette smokers (OR = 3.409; 95%CI: 1.061-10.949; P = 0.032). CONCLUSION: The XPC Gln/Gln genotype alone and in combination with smoking increases the risk of CRC among Malaysians.

Cerebral small vessel disease(CSVD)is a leading cause of age-related microvascular cognitive decline,resulting in significant morbidity and decreased quality of *** a progress on its key pathophysiological bases and general acceptance of key terms from neuroimaging findings as observed on the magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),key questions on CSVD remain *** relationships and reliable lesion studies,such as white matter tractography using diffusion-based MRI(dMRI)are necessary in order to improve the assessment of white matter architecture and connectivity in *** tensor imaging(DTI)and tractography is an application of dMRI that provides data that can be used to non-invasively appraise the brain white matter connections via fiber tracking and enable visualization of individual patient-specific white matter fiber tracts to reflect the extent of CSVD-associated white matter ***,due to a lack of standardization on various sets of software or image pipeline processing utilized in this technique that driven mostly from research setting,interpreting the findings remain contentious,especially to inform an improved diagnosis and/or prognosis of CSVD for routine clinical *** this minireview,we highlight the advances in DTI pipeline processing and the prospect of this DTI metrics as potential imaging biomarker for CSVD,even for subclinical CSVD in at-risk individuals.

The a-amino acid derivatives constitute a class of compounds of particular medicinal and synthetic attention and considerable interest has been devoted to their synthesis in recent *** the present work,we develop the computational study of the synthesis reaction of new pyrazolyl a-amino esters derivatives using the Gaussian 09based on the DET/B3LYP density functional theorv method,with the base 6-31G(d.p)to ensure the possibility of carrying out these reactions within the laboratory of ***,this research has encouraged us to establish an economical synthesis strategy of these products in overall vields of 73.5%to 87%to have access to new active biomolecule through the O-alkvlation reaction between methyl a-azidoglycinate N-benzoylated and primary pyrazole alcohols(3,5-dimethyl-1 H-pyrazol-1-yl)methanol,(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)methanol and(3-ethoxy-5-methyl-1H-pyrazol-1yl)methanoll under different operating *** structure of the prepared heterocyclic systems was characterized by conventional spectroscopic techniques,like H NMR.I3℃NMR,and *** results revealed that the experimental study is in good correlation with the computational one.
