Assessment of the Hydrochemical Characteristics of the Suez Gulf Coastal Waters during 2011-2013

The coastal region of the Suez Gulf, is one of the most densely industrialized zones in Egypt. In order to assess the quality of Suez Gulf coastal waters for the sustainable use and development, and consequently for the national income, 12 field campaigns were carried out in 3 years (2011-2013). The results of beach litter cleared out that the shoreline of the Suez Gulf, especially Ras Gharib area was subjected to many factors which undoubtedly affected the rate of man-made litter accumulation. The most abundant visible items were general litter as they represented 30.64% of the total items encountered. Oil, seaweeds as well as old and new tar constituted 15.41%, 14.85% and 11.84%, respectively. The increase on the levels of water temperature, Chl-a, TSM, DO, BOD, DOM, COD, ammonium ion, nitrite, nitrate, total phosphorus, silicate and total nitrogen developed a eutrophic region. In general, dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) species were almost 9 times higher in the northern parts compared to the south-ern ones revealing that the northern parts of the Gulf were more affected by human impacts compared to the southern area. Moreover, concentrations of most studied metals such as Zn, Mn, Ni, Cu, Cr, Cd, Pb, and Hg were higher in Northern parts com-pared to southern parts of the Gulf. The concentrations of dissolved metals in the northern and southern Suez Gulf followed the following order: Fe ≥ Zn ≥ Cu > Pb > Mn > Ni > Cr > Cd ≥ Hg. Except for Hg, concentrations of metals were in the accepta-ble ranges recommended internationally. Hg concentrations especially in the northern Suez Gulf were slightly higher than the permissible levels. As the northern parts of the Gulf were more suffered from oil pollution, total petroleum hydrocarbons revealed higher concentrations in the northern parts compared to the southern parts of the Gulf. Anomaly Detection Framework in Fog-to-Things Communication for Industrial Internet of Things

The rapid development of the Internet of Things(IoT)in the industrial domain has led to the new term the Industrial Internet of Things(IIoT).The IIoT includes several devices,applications,and services that connect the physical and virtual space in order to provide smart,cost-effective,and scalable *** the IIoT has been deployed and integrated into a wide range of industrial control systems,preserving security and privacy of such a technology remains a big *** anomaly-based Intrusion Detection System(IDS)can be an effective security solution for maintaining the confidentiality,integrity,and availability of data transmitted in IIoT *** this paper,we propose an intelligent anomalybased IDS framework in the context of fog-to-things communications to decentralize the cloud-based security solution into a distributed architecture(fog nodes)near the edge of the data *** anomaly detection system utilizes minimum redundancy maximum relevance and principal component analysis as the featured engineering methods to select the most important features,reduce the data dimensionality,and improve detection *** the classification stage,anomaly-based ensemble learning techniques such as bagging,LPBoost,RUSBoost,and Adaboost models are implemented to determine whether a given flow of traffic is normal or *** validate the effectiveness and robustness of our proposed model,we evaluate our anomaly detection approach on a new driven IIoT dataset called XIIoTID,which includes new IIoT protocols,various cyberattack scenarios,and different attack *** experimental results demonstrated that our proposed anomaly detection method achieved a higher accuracy rate of 99.91%and a reduced false alarm rate of 0.1%compared to other recently proposed techniques.

The Internet of Things(IoT)has been deployed in diverse critical sectors with the aim of improving quality of service and facilitating human *** IoT revolution has redefined digital services in different domains by improving efficiency,productivity,and *** service providers have adapted IoT systems or plan to integrate them as integral parts of their systems’operation;however,IoT security issues remain a significant *** minimize the risk of cyberattacks on IoT networks,anomaly detection based on machine learning can be an effective security solution to overcome a wide range of IoT *** various detection techniques have been proposed in the literature,existing detection methods address limited cyberattacks and utilize outdated datasets for *** this paper,we propose an intelligent,effective,and lightweight detection approach to detect several IoT *** proposed model includes a collaborative feature selection method that selects the best distinctive features and eliminates unnecessary features to build an effective and efficient detection *** the detection phase,we also proposed an ensemble of learning techniques to improve classification for predicting several different types of IoT *** experimental results show that our proposed method can effectively and efficiently predict several IoT attacks with a higher accuracy rate of 99.984%,a precision rate of 99.982%,a recall rate of 99.984%,and an F1-score of 99.983%.

Coordinated transcriptional control employing synthetic promoters and transcription factors （TFs） can be used to achieve customized regulation of gene expression in planta. Synthetic promoter technology has yielded a series of promoters with modified cis-regulatory elements that provide useful tools for efficient modulation of gene expression. In addition, the use of zinc fingers （ZFs）, transcription activator-like effectors （TALEs）, and catalytically inactive clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats （CRISPR）-associated protein 9 （dCas9） has made it feasible to engineer TFs that can produce targeted gene expression regulation; these approaches are particularly effective when artificial TFs are coupled with transcriptional activators or repressors. This review focuses on strategies used to engineer both promoters and TFs in the context of targeted transcriptional regulation. We also discuss the creation of synthetic inducible platforms, which can be used to impart stress tolerance to plants. We propose that combinatorial ＂cis-trans engineering＂ using a CRISPR-dCas9-based bipartite module could be used to regulate the expression of multiple target genes. This approach provides an attractive tool for introduction of specific qualitative traits into plants, thus enhancing their overall environmental adaptability.

Anomaly Detection for Industrial Internet of Things Cyberattacks

The evolution of the Internet of Things(IoT)has empowered modern industries with the capability to implement large-scale IoT ecosystems,such as the Industrial Internet of Things(IIoT).The IIoT is vulnerable to a diverse range of cyberattacks that can be exploited by intruders and cause substantial reputational andfinancial harm to *** preserve the confidentiality,integrity,and availability of IIoT networks,an anomaly-based intrusion detection system(IDS)can be used to provide secure,reliable,and efficient IIoT *** this paper,we propose an anomaly-based IDS for IIoT networks as an effective security solution to efficiently and effectively overcome several IIoT *** proposed anomaly-based IDS is divided into three phases:pre-processing,feature selection,and *** the pre-processing phase,data cleaning and nor-malization are *** the feature selection phase,the candidates’feature vectors are computed using two feature reduction techniques,minimum redun-dancy maximum relevance and neighborhood components *** thefinal step,the modeling phase,the following classifiers are used to perform the classi-fication:support vector machine,decision tree,k-nearest neighbors,and linear discriminant *** proposed work uses a new data-driven IIoT data set called *** experimental evaluation demonstrates our proposed model achieved a high accuracy rate of 99.58%,a sensitivity rate of 99.59%,a specificity rate of 99.58%,and a low false positive rate of 0.4%.

Intelligent Intrusion Detection for Industrial Internet of Things Using Clustering Techniques

The rapid growth of the Internet of Things(IoT)in the industrial sector has given rise to a new term:the Industrial Internet of Things(IIoT).The IIoT is a collection of devices,apps,and services that connect physical and virtual worlds to create smart,cost-effective,and scalable *** the IIoT has been implemented and incorporated into a wide range of industrial control systems,maintaining its security and privacy remains a significant *** the IIoT contexts,an intrusion detection system(IDS)can be an effective security solution for ensuring data confidentiality,integrity,and *** this paper,we propose an intelligent intrusion detection technique that uses principal components analysis(PCA)as a feature engineering method to choose the most significant features,minimize data dimensionality,and enhance detection *** the classification phase,we use clustering algorithms such as K-medoids and K-means to determine whether a given flow of IIoT traffic is normal or attack for binary classification and identify the group of cyberattacks according to its specific type for multi-class *** validate the effectiveness and robustness of our proposed model,we validate the detection method on a new driven IIoT dataset called *** performance results showed our proposed detection model obtained a higher accuracy rate of 99.79%and reduced error rate of 0.21%when compared to existing techniques.

SMS Encryption and Decryption Using Modified Vigenere Cipher Algorithm

Despite many online messaging services,short message service(SMS)is still used because of its ***,such services can be easily cracked,making SMS more vulnerable to send confidential ***,appropriate cryptographic algorithms must be applied to ensure *** of the most common cryptographic techniques used for encrypting and decrypting messages is the Vigenere ***,Vigenere cipher can be cracked easily because the previous approach involved 26×10 matrixes,and the key comprised of *** the key length is small,then it becomes easier to crack the plain text by *** here in this work,we have proposed a modified Vigenere cipher technique to enhance its security *** Vigenere cipher attack is not more secured,and thus we developed a method that improves the security in Vigenere cipher using Rivest-Shamir-Adleman(RSA).RSA is an asymmetric algorithm that has public and private *** advantage of using this algorithm is that finding factors for the large composite numbers is *** method is secured but time *** this proposed method,we combined RSA with Vigenere cipher so that the proposed algorithm is secured and consumes less time than RSA *** approach is widely used to encrypt SMS.

Secured Data Storage Using Deduplication in Cloud Computing Based on Elliptic Curve Cryptography

The tremendous development of cloud computing with related technol-ogies is an unexpected ***,centralized cloud storage faces few chal-lenges such as latency,storage,and packet drop in the *** storage gets more attention due to its huge data storage and ensures the security of secret *** of the developments in cloud storage have been positive except better cost model and effectiveness,but still data leakage in security are billion-dollar questions to *** data security techniques are usually based on cryptographic methods,but these approaches may not be able to with-stand an attack from the cloud server's ***,we suggest a model called multi-layer storage(MLS)based on security using elliptical curve cryptography(ECC).The suggested model focuses on the signiﬁcance of cloud storage along with data protection and removing duplicates at the initial *** on divide and combine methodologies,the data are divided into three ***,theﬁrst two portions of data are stored in the local system and fog nodes to secure the data using the encoding and decoding *** other part of the encrypted data is saved in the *** viability of our model has been tested by research in terms of safety measures and test evaluation,and it is truly a powerful comple-ment to existing methods in cloud storage.

Energy transfer in solid-state dye lasers based on methyl methacrylate co-doped with sulforhodamine B and crystal violet

Laser action in methyl methacrylate （MMA） co-doped with sulforhodamine B and crystal violet dyes was investi- gated. The dye mixture was incorporated into a solid polymeric matrix and was pumped by a 532-nm Nd：YAG laser. Distributed feedback dye laser （DFDL） action was induced in the dye mixture using a prism arrangement both in the donor and acceptor regions by an energy transfer mechanism. Theoretically, the characteristics of acceptor and donor DFDLs, and the dependence of their pulse widths and output powers on acceptor-donor concentrations and pump power, were studied. Experimentally, the output energy of DFDL was measured at the emission peaks of donor and acceptor dyes for different pump powers and different acceptor-donor concentrations. Tuning of the output wavelength was achieved by varying the period of the gain modulation of the laser medium. The laser wavelength showed continuous tunability from 563 nm to 648 nm.
