BACKGROUND: The frequency of isolated biliary candidiasis is increasing in cancer patients. The clinical signiifcance of isolated biliary candidiasis remains unclear. We analyzed the risk factors of biliary candidiasis and outcomes of the patients with unresectable cholangiocarcinoma after percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD). METHODs: Among 430 patients who underwent PTBD between January 2012 and March 2015, 121 patients had unresectable cholangiocarcinoma. Bile and blood samples were collected for consecutive fungal culture. REsULTs: The study cohort included 49 women and 72 men with a median age of 71 years. Multivariate analysis showed that cancer progression (P=0.013), concurrent presence of another microorganism (P=0.010), and previous long-term (>7 days) antibiotic use (P=0.011) were potential risk factors of biliary candidiasis. Chemotherapy was not associated with overall biliary candidiasis (P=0.196), but was signiifcantly related to repeated biliary candidiasis (P=0.011). Patients with isolated biliary candidiasis showed remarkably reduced survival compared with those without (median overall sur-vival (Os): 32 vs 62 days,P=0.011)subgroup analysis was also performed. Patients with repeated candidiasis had markedly decreased survival compared with those with transient candi-diasis (median Os: 30 vs 49 days,P=0.046). Biliary candidiasis was identiifed as a poor prognostic factor by univariate and multivariate analyses (P=0.033). Four cases of repeated can-didiasis (4/19, 21%) showedCandida species in consecutive blood culture until the end of the study, but others showed no candidemia. CONCLUsIONs: Isolated biliary candidiasis may be associ-ated with poor prognosis in patients with unresectable chol-angiocarcinoma. Especially, repeated biliary candidiasis may have the possibility of progression to candidemia. We suggest that biliary dilatation treatment or antifungal agents might be helpful for patients with biliary candidiasis.

Frothers facilitate the reduction of bubbles size by preventing bubbles coalescence and produce more stable *** collision probability of the bubbles and particles substantially increases by decreasing bubble *** the same volume system,fewer bubbles result from a distribution of large-sized bubbles,and more bubbles result from a distribution of small-sized *** this research,fundamental two-phase frother characterization parameters were aimed to link with three-phase coal and talc flotation *** this purpose,the effect of single and dual frother systems on inhibiting bubble coalescence was investigated with methyl isobutyl carbinol(MIBC),isooctanol(2 ethyl hexanol),pine oil,and Dowfroth *** on the results of single frothers,isooctanol at the lowest critical coalescence concentration(CCC)value of 6×10^(−6) achieved the smallest bubbles with sauter mean diameter of 0.80 *** blending Dowfroth 250 and pine oil,the bubbles size decreased significantly,reaching 0.45 *** the highest recoveries in coal flotation were obtained in single and frother blends where the bubbles size was measured as the smallest in two-phase system,and such a relationship was not found for talc flotation.

The kinetics of the Fischer-Tropsch reaction over a Co/Nb2O5 catalyst in a fixed bed reactor was investigated experimentally. Experiments were carried out under isothermal and isobaric conditions （T=543 K, P=2.1 MPa） and under different conditions of several H2/CO feed molar ratio （0.49-4.79）, space velocities （0.2-3.8 h^-1）, mass of catalyst （0.3-1.5 g）, and CO conversion （10%-29%）. synthesis gas conversion was measured and data were reduced to estimate the kinetic parameters for different Langmuir-Hinshelwood rate expressions. Differential and integral reactor models were used for the nonlinear regression of kinetics parameters. One of the rate equations could well explain the data. The hydrocarbon product distributions that were experimentally determined exhibited an unusual behavior, and a possible explanation was discussed.

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of cetuxim-ab plus irinotecan in irinotecan-refractory metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients from south-East Asia and Australia. METHODs:In this open-label,phase Ⅱ study,the main eligibility criteria were epidermal growth factor receptor-positive mCRC with progressive disease within 3 mo of an irinotecan-based regimen as the most recent chemotherapy. Patients received cetuximab 400 mg/m2 initially,then 250 mg/m2 every week,with the same regimen of irinotecan on which the patients had progressed (4 pre-defined regim-ens allowed). The prim-ary objective was evaluation of progression-free survival (PFs) at 12 wk. secondary objectives included a further investigation of PFs,and an assessment of the overall response rate (ORR),duration of response,time to treatment failure (TTF),overall survival and the safety profile. REsULTs:One hundred and twenty nine patients were enrolled from-25 centers in the Asia-Pacific region and of these 123 received cetuximab plus irinotecan. The most common recent irinotecan regimen used was 180 mg/m2 every 2 wk which had been used in 93 patients (75.6%). The PFs rate at 12 wk was 50% (95% confidence interval (CI,41-59) and m-edian PFs tim-e was 12.1 wk (95% CI:9.7-17.7). The ORR was 13.8% (95% CI:8.3-21.2) and disease control rate was 49.6% (95% CI:40.5-58.8). Median duration of response was 31.1 wk (95% CI:18.0-42.6) and median overall survival was 9.5 mo (95% CI,7.5-11.7). The median TTF was 11.7 wk (95% CI:9.1-17.4). Treatment was generally well tolerated. The most common grade 3/4 adverse events were diarrhea (13.8%),neutropenia (8.9%),rash (5.7%) and vomiting (5.7%).CONCLUsION:In patients from Asia and Australia,this study confirm-s the activity and safety of cetuxim-ab plus irinotecan observed in previous studies in Europe and south America.

Objective:To evaluate inhibitoy potential of seven Korean thistles against the advanced glyeatinn endproducts(AGE) formation as well as to identify responsible compounds from the most active ***:We used an in vitro AGE inhibition assay to evaluate the antidiabetic complication potential of the methanol extracts of the selected Korean ***:Among the seven Korean thistles,the leaves of Cirsium maackii(***) exhibited the most significant inhibitory activity against AGE *** means of bioassay-directed fractionation,a *** acid and 14 flavonoids were isolated from the active ethyl acetate soluble fraction of a methanol extract from *** *** and its 5-O-glueoside have been previously isolated:however,a lignan and 13 known compounds were isolated for the first lime from C maackii leaves in this *** of the isolated compounds exhibited inhibitory activities against potential AGE *** them,cernuoside was shown to be the most potent AGE inhibitor with an IC_(50) value of 21.21 μ mol/*** importantly,two major flavonoids,luteolin and ils 5-O-glucoside,also significantly inhibited AGE formation,with IC_(50) values of36.33 and 37.47 μmol/L,*** activity relationship revealed that the presence of free 3'and 4' dihydroxyl group in flavonoids skeleton played an important role in AGE ***:These results indicate that *** and C maackii-derived flavonoids might be explored further to develop therapeutic agents for the prevention of diabetic eoniplicalions due to their significant inhibitory activity against AGE formation.

Identification of genes with differential transcript abundance(GDTA)in seedless mutants may enhance understanding of seedless citrus *** analysis was conducted at three time points during early fruit development(Phase 1)of three seedy citrus genotypes:Fallglo(Bower citrus hybrid(Citrus reticulata×***×***)×Temple(***×***)),grapefruit(***),Pineapple sweet orange(***),and their seedless *** abortion in seedless mutants was observed at 26 days post anthesis(Time point 2).Affymetrix transcriptomic analysis revealed 359 to 1077 probe sets with differential transcript abundance in the comparison of seedless versus seedy fruits for each citrus genotypes and time *** GDTA identified by 18 microarray probe sets were validated by *** clustering analysis revealed a range of GDTA associated with development,hormone and protein metabolism,all of which may reflect genes associated with seedless fruit *** were 14,9 and 12 genes found exhibiting similar abundance ratios in all three seedless versus seedy genotype comparisons at time point 1,2 and 3,*** those genes were genes coding for an aspartic protease and a cysteine protease,which may play important roles in seedless fruit *** insights into seedless citrus fruit development may contribute to biotech approaches to create seedless cultivars.
