Utilization of Fungi for the Biological Control of Insect Pests and Ganoderma Disease in the Indonesian Oil Palm Industry

Biological control is usually the first choice of control and prevention method for integrated pest management （IPM） strategies and has now been widely implemented by Indonesian oil palm plantations. Entomopathogenic fungus, i.e., Metarhizium anisopliae, Cordyceps militaris and Beauveria bassiana have been demonstrated to control renowned pests of oil palm. Metarhizium has been used to control Oryctes larvae and the mortality has ranged from 91.67% to 100% in laboratory and 7.4% to 88.75% in the field. Metarhizium has been applied in combination with a termite baiting system （TBS） to control termites in the field for preventive and curative action as well. In many oil palm plantations in Indonesia, Cordyceps has been used to reduce the field moth population ofSetothosea asigna. Application of Cordyceps within the oil palm circle was able to infect S. asigna pupae up to 80%. Meanwhile, Beauveria in an effervescent formulation was demonstrated to have better efficacy on Darna trima larvae. A significant finding on the biological control of basal stem rot disease （Ganoderma） was the isolation of Trichoderma sp. and Gliocladium sp.. The efficacy was conducted with promising result and techniques on the application of Triehoderma have been developed, i.e., hole-in-hole system, surgery and a mounding method. However, as the roots developed, Trichoderma was no longer able to protect the palm from Ganoderma. In spite of that, the use of Trichoderma still prolonged the life ofoil palms by up to 2-3 years. Another fungi belonging to vesicular arbuscular mychorrhiza （VAM） has been developed to control Ganoderma. The efficacy in the nursery showed promising results and the Ganoderma incidence remained low compared to the untreated control. Large scale field trials are ongoing. Objective:To examine sex reversal both by oral and by immersion using 17α-methyltestosterone on the methyltestosterone residual concentration and the organ histopathology of tilapia ***:This study used oral and immersion treatment methods for sex reversal of tilapia fish and used normal fish as the control and each treatment was repeated 4 times.17α-methyltestosterone at dosages of 60 mg/kg feed and 0.5 mg/L were used for oral and immersion methods,*** the first step,tilapia fry were reared at 100 L aquaria,with a density of 1 fish/L for 2 *** the next step,male tilapias were reared at happa(net cage)of(2×1×1)m3 size in the controlled pond,with a density of 30 fish/happa for 3 *** methyltestosterone residual concentrations were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and Duncan's multiple range tests,while organ histopathology was analyzed by descriptive ***:Residual concentrations in the serum of methyltestosterone-treated fish were significantly lower than that in normal fish,especially in 4-and 5-month-old tilapias with averages of less than 5μg/L,while in normal fish was more than 5μg/*** the flesh,methyltestosterone residual concentrations showed relatively no significant differences between the oral and immersion treatment groups and methyltestosterone-treated fish remained lower compared to normal fish,except in 5-month-old ***-treated tilapia exhibited histopathological changes on gill,liver,kidneys,and intestine ***:Sex reversal either by oral or by immersion has methyltestosterone residual concentration,but does not exceed the limits(5μg/L or 5μg/kg)of synthetic steroid on the fish body,although methyltestosterone causes histopathological changes on gill,liver,kidneys,and intestine.

The singlemode-multimode-singlemode(SMS)fiber structure for a heart rate monitoring is proposed and *** artificial electrocardiogram(ECG)signal is used to simulate the heart pulse at different rates ranging from 50 beats per minute(bpm)to 200 *** SMS fiber structure is placed at the center of a loudspeaker and it senses the vibration of the *** vibration of the pulse signal applied to the SMS fiber structure changes the intensity of the optical output *** proposed sensor shows a linear frequency of the heart rate sensing range that matches well with the relevant heart rate from the artificial *** work shows the capability of the SMS fiber structure monitoring the heart rate frequencies for a long term,high stability realization,and reproducibility,and being suitable for the observation in hospitals as well as in other environments.

Objective:To search an herbal material,capable of inhibiting plaque producing bacteria Streptococcus ***:Twenty materials comprising 10 flowers and 10 rhizomes were extracted with70% *** activity was then examined at a concentration of 10%(w/v) against Streptococcus mutans in vitro on Mueller–Hinton ***(Oxoid,20 mg disc) was used as a positive ***,to establish a fingerprint guide for authentication or quality control,the most potent material was further analyzed regarding its chemical constituents by means of reversed phase-high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) and thin-layer chromatography(TLC).Results:Of the tested samples,Sesbania grandiflora(***) flower and Costus speciosus rhizome extracts showed the most potent activity with inhibited zone diameters of 18.5 and 14.8 mm,*** the other hand,other extract plants showed a diameter zone in the range of 0.5–10.6 mm or being inactive(diameter=0 mm).The activity of *** was comparable to that of erythromycin(diameter=18.0 mm).The best separation was achieved on HPLC system with acetonitrile-water with a ratio of2:8,and a flow rate at 0.5 m L/***,meanwhile,was featured on chloroform–methanol(8.5:1.5) as a mobile ***:*** flower is a promising material to be developed as the active ingredient of anti-plaque toothpaste as well as mouthwash *** developed HPLC and TLC system can be used for a further standard in its material authentication as well as for a fingerprinting of quality control during the manufacturing process.

Hibridization is one of breeding strategy to increase productivity of crop including physic nut (Jatropha curcas Linn.). This study aimed to obtain information productivity per hectare and seed oil content of 11 numbers of physic nut hybrids and their parental in four dry lands. The research was conducted in four dry land: Kalipare-Malang, Oro-oro Pule-Kejayan Pasuruan, Kedung Pengaron-Pasuruan and Jorongan-Leces Probolinggo. The materials used in this research are the eleven result numbers of physic nut hybrids, they are SP38XHS49, SP8XHS49, SP8XSP16, SP8XSP38, SP33XHS49, SM35XHS49, SM35XSP38, IP1AXHS49, IP1AXSP38, IP1PXHS 49, IP1PXSP38, and their parental, they are HS49, SP16, SP38, SP8, SP33, SM35, IP1A, IP1P, IP3P. Observation was done during the plants’ generative phase, on the second harvest. The results showed that SP38XHS49 hybrid on Kedung Pengaron, produces the highest seeds dry weight per hectare (1170 kg/ha) with 62.33 gram of dry weight of 100 seeds and the oil content is 32.56%. The highest average of dry seed productions from all planting sites achieved on the crossing between SP38XHS49 (658.75 kg/hectare) and followed by SP8XHS49 (607.5 kg/hectare). If the comparison of the four locations, the highest average productivity of physic nut achieved on location Jorongan, Leces, Probolinggo. In general, the data proves that the hybrid result from the crossing shows the higher production level compare to their parental. The dry weight of 100 seeds produced ranged from 54.03 grams to 68.29 grams. Of all four planting sites, it shows that the highest 100 seeds dry weight achieved by the crossing between IP1P-XHS49 which is 64.63 grams. The seed oil content ranged from 27.04 to 35.24 percent. The highest average of seed oil content achieved by the crossing between SM35XSP38 (32.035%).

West Sumatera province has 19 cities and regencies where 6 of them often experience abrasion and accretion disaster,because it is a coastal area directly adjacent to the Indian *** study aims to examine the characteristics of abrasion and accretion disasters along the coast of West Sumatera Province from 2003 to *** knowing the characteristics of abrasion and accretion from 2003 and 2016,it will be known which beaches are experiencing abrasion or *** research is qualitative and quantitative descriptive research with GIS(Geographic Information System)analysis method to get characteristic of abrasion and accretion disaster in coastal area of West *** has been a disaster of abrasion and accretion in 32 points spread across 6 districts and cities,namely West Pasaman District,Agam Regency,Padang Pariaman District,Pariaman City,Padang City and Padang Pariaman District,an abrasion disaster in the coastal area of West Sumatera Province of 732.69 Ha and 55.4 Ha of *** proves that the abrasion debacle causes the decrease of land in West Sumatera Province which is big enough that is average 56.3 Ha/year,while the addition of land is only 4.26 Ha/*** farthest abrasion disasters are located in South Pesisir Regency,which is 45.70 m or 3.52 m/year on *** the farthest accretion is in the South Pesisir Regency,and is as far as 36.91 m or an average of 2.84 m/year.

This research was to assess the sustainability of fisheries in Pangandaran, West Java. This fishery is an important one in the region, but is threatened by increasing over-exploitation which has led to a steady decrease in the production. In addition to over-exploitation problem, a record of tsunami disaster makes this fishery a unique case. This research, based on a set of primary and secondary data was carried out using the Rapfish analytical approach. Primary data were collected using a stratified cluster random sampling technique, where as many as 186 outboard fishing operators were selected. Meanwhile, relevant complementary data were solicited purposively from five employees of Pangandaran Marine and Fisheries Service. Following from the Rapfish approach, it was found through this research that sustainability levels of fisheries in Pangandaran fall into poor category. For all types of fisheries that exist in the region, almost all sustainability dimensions namely ecological, social, technological and ethical dimensions were scored below 50 of the 100 maximum values. This paper concludes with a suggestion, pointing out attributes that should receive government attention in order that the sustainability of the fisheries in the future.

AIM:To evaluate the incidence of regurgitation and other symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux in Indonesian infants. METHODS:In a cross-sectional study at the University Outpatient Clinic for vaccination in Jakarta,138 mothers of healthy infants less than 12-mo old were prospectively asked to report the frequency of regurgitation. RESULTS:Whatever the age was,some infants did not regurgitate(from 10% during the first month of life to 67% in 1-year-old infants).Regurgitation of at least once a day was reported in 77% of infants younger than 3 *** regurgitation decreased to 12% in the 9-12 mo old group. Reported peak prevalence was 81%(26/32)during the first month of *** decreased sharply between the 4-6 and 7-9 mo old groups(from 44% to 9%).The longer the regurgitation persisted,the more frequently the mother perceived regurgitation as a *** and frequency of regurgitation,back arching,irritability,crying and refusal of feeding were the symptoms causing maternal *** longer the regurgitation persisted,the more frequently the mothers viewed it as a health problem. CONCLUSION:Regurgitation occurs frequently in Indonesian infants,and is a frequent cause of concern to mothers.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations is blessed with agricultural resources,and with the growing population,it will continue to prosper,which follows the abundance of agricultural *** biomass attracted researchers’interest in extracting bio-oil from these ***,the resulting bio-oil has low heating values and undesirable physical ***,co-pyrolysis with plastic or polymer wastes is adopted to improve the yield and quality of the ***,with the spread of the novel coronavirus,the surge of single-use plastic waste such as disposable medical face mask,can potentially set back the previous plastic waste reduction ***,studies of existing technologies and techniques are referred in exploring the potential of disposable medical face mask waste as a candidate for co-pyrolysis with *** parameters,utilisation of catalysts and technologies are key factors in improving and optimising the process to achieve commercial standard of liquid *** copyrolysis involves a series of complex mechanisms,which cannot be explained using simple iso-conversional ***,advanced conversional models are introduced,followed by the evolutionary models and predictive models,which can solve the non-linear catalytic copyrolysis reaction *** outlook and challenges for the topic are discussed in detail.
