As human populations become concentrated in larger,more intensely urbanized areas connected through glob-alization,the relationships of cities to their surrounding landscapes are open to social,ecological,and economic *** particular,the value of access to nature in the form of nearby undeveloped wildland to ur-ban populations implies a relatively novel type of synergistic city-region *** develop a robust and replicable metric-the urban-wildland j.xtaposition(UWj.-that quantifies critical dimensions of the j.xtapo-sition of the urbanicity of cities with the quantity of nearby unbuilt wildlands,based on the spatial proximity and relative intensities of these two contrasting system *** a distance-decay gravity model,this analysis provides documentation on the calculation of the UWj.and its component metrics,urbanicity(U)and wildland(W)and then presents U,W,and UWj.metrics for 36 urbanized areas representing all regions of the U.S.,pro-viding the basis for comparisons and *** explore the potential of the metric by testing correlations with“creative class”employment and public health *** UWj.has implications and potential applications for demographic,economic,social,and quality-of-life trends across the *** internationally.

A study was conducted in the forest-steppe region of the Loess Plateau to provide insight into the factors affecting the process of vegetation establishment,and to provide recommendations for the selection of indigenous species in order to speed up the succession process and to allow the establishment of vegetation more resistant to soil *** distinctive vegetation types were identified,and their distribution was affected not only by the time since abandonment but also by other environmental factors,mainly soil water and total P in the upper soil *** of the vegetation types,dominated by Artemisia scoparia,formed the early successional stage after abandonment while the other three types formed later successional stages with their distribution determined by the soil water content and total *** can be concluded that the selection of appropriate species for introduction to accelerate succession should be determined by the local conditions and especially the total P concentration and soil water content.

Aquatic fungi play an important role in litter decomposition in aquatic *** in view the importance of aquatic fungi,diversity of these organisms was studied in two freshwater ecosystems of Gaur River and Khurj. Nala j.balpur Madhya Pradesh *** the present study,34 fungal species and 6 chromista species have been recorded on decomposing *** number of fungal genera were recorded in submerged litter samples of Tectona grandis followed by Dendroclamus *** maximum percentage frequencies of various fungal species which colonize litter of different tree species were also *** cluster analysis revealed that different fungal communities on various plant hosts vary significantly.

AIM: To investigate nasolacrimal duct(NLD) volume in Korean patients and to examine the correlation between NLD volume and obstruction. METHODS: Of patients who underwent orbital computed tomography from March 2013 to j.nuary 2016, patients diagnosed with NLD obstruction were classified into the patient group and patients without obstruction were classified into the control group. The NLD volume was measured using the Image j.program, which showed the NLD in axial,coronal, and sagittal images on computed tomography. RESULTS: The average value of men's NLD volume,265.33±90.57 mm3, was significantly larger than women's,211.87±68.61 mm3(P=0.009). In the patient group, the NLD volume of the obstructed eyes, 242.49±82.93 mm3,and the non-obstructed eyes, 225.20±73.20 mm3, were significantly higher than the control group, 217.61±82.04 mm3(Pj.dged that inflammatory reaction caused a chronic change in the bone around the NLD and affect the measurement of NLD volume.

Three-dimensional Prussian blue (PB) nanostructures was obtained via a one-step hydrothermal method. Subsequently, two-dimensional tin disulfide (SnS2) nanosheets were grown onto PB through a facile hydrothermal synthesis. The as prepared SnS2/PB is further employed as the anode of sodium ion batteries (SIBs). S11S2/PB nanoarchitecture delivers a specific capacity of 725.7 mah·g-1 at 50 mA·g-1. When put through more than 200 cycles, it achieved a stable cycling capacity of 400 m ah·g^-1 at 200 m A·g^i. The stable Na^+ storage properties of SnS2/PB was attributed to the synergistic effect among the conductive PB carbon, used as the template in this work. These results obtained potentially paves the way for the development of excellent electrochemical performance with stable performance of SIBs.

Obj.ctive:SC-E3 is a polyherbal formula that contains five medicinal herbs used frequently in traditional herbal *** our previous study,we demonstrated the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of *** present study examined the effects of SC-E3 in a mouse model of type-II collagen-induced arthritis(CIA).Methods:In vivo,male DBA/1 j.mice were immunized by intradermal inj.ction of bovine type-II collagen and complete or incomplete Freund’s adj.vant,to induce ***-E3 was orally administered daily for 23 *** vitro,bone marrow-derived macrophages(BMMs)were treated with macrophage colony-stimulating factor(M-CSF)and receptor activator of nuclear factor-j.B ligand(RANKL)in the absence or presence of ***:Administrations of SC-E3 were found to have anti-arthritic effects in the j.ints of CIA mice,as evidenced by reduced paw swelling,bone erosion and deformation,inflammatory cell infiltration,and inflammation in synovial ***-E3 also reduced serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-a,interleukin-1 b,aspartate aminotransferase and alanine ***,tartrateresistant acid phosphatase-positive osteoclast numbers in the j.ints were significantly lower in SC-E3-treated CIA mice than in CIA *** addition,the differentiations of BMMs to multinucleated osteoclasts induced by M-CSF and RANKL stimulation were dose-dependently reduced by ***:These results suggest that SC-E3 possesses substantial anti-arthritic activity because it inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokines and osteoclastogenesis,and that SC-E3 has potential therapeutic use for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.

在以可靠性为中心的维修（ＲＣＭ）分析中，通常对由机械磨损引起的故障模式采用功能检测策略加以预防，而制定此类问题的功能检测策略时需确定下列参数：①潜在故障状态（用磨损量表示），检测时如果发现产品磨损量达到或超过该状态，应当予以更换；②检测的间隔期，分首次检测间隔期与重复间隔期。借助于维修延迟时间的概念并假设磨损过程服从Ｗｉｅｎｅｒ过程，建立基于风险、可用度与费用的功能检测模型，用于确定上述检测参数。

Inter-observer Reliability of Indicators and Decision of Pattern Identification Using Diagnostic Flowchart with Traditional Korean Medicine

Obj.ctive： To evaluate the consistency of patterns and pattern identification（PI）, and the improvement in the diagnosis of blood stasis after the standard operating procedures（SOPs） were enhanced by using a diagnostic flowchart. Methods： A total of 358 subj.cts who were admitted by the j.seng Hospital of Korean Medicine between j.ne 2013 and December 2014 were included in the study. Each patient was independently diagnosed by two experts from the same department. In 2014, the SOPs included the use of a diagnostic flowchart for each indicator. Inter-observer consistency was assessed by simple percent agreement and by the kappa and AC1 statistics. Results： The improvements in inter-observer agreement for the indicators（for al patients） and PI were greater in 2014 than in 2013. In 2013, the j.value measure of agreement between the two experts ranged from ＂poor＂（κ=–0.051） to ＂good＂（κ=0.968）. The AC1 measure of agreement between the experts was generally high for the indicators and ranged from –0.010 to 0.978. In most cases, agreement was considerably lower when it was assessed by the j.values compared with the AC1 values. In 2014, the j.value measure of agreement on the indicators（for the subj.cts） general y ranged from poor to good, with the values ranging from –0.007 to 0.994. Moreover, the AC1 measure of agreement between the experts was general y high for al of the indicators and ranged from ＂moderate＂（AC1=0.408） to ＂excel ent＂（AC1=0.996）. Conclusions： In four examinations, there was moderate agreement between the clinicians on the PI indicators of blood stasis. To improve clinician consistency（e.g., in the diagnostic criteria used）, it is necessary to analyse the reasons for inconsistency and to improve clinician training.（Trial registration No. KCT0000916）

Derivation of a Formula for Mountain Height as a Function of Rank in Height

The relationship between mountain height and rank in height for a mountainous region is examined. A stochastic differential equation model is derived for the evolution of mountain elevations. The derivation is based on simple assumptions about tectonic and erosion processes in mountain elevation dynamics. At any given time, the model yields a CIR-type probability density for mountain heights. As data are often available for mountains of greatest elevation in a region, the tail of the CIR density is studied and compared with mountain height data for the highest mountains in the region. The tail density is proportional to the product of a power of height and an exponential function of height, i.e., hb-1exp(-ah) where h is mountain height and a and b are constants. The inverse distribution function of the tail probability density leads to a formula that relates rank in height to the corresponding mountain height. The formula provides, for example, a decreasing sequence of theoretical mountain heights for the region. The derived formula is tested against mountain height data sets for several mountainous regions in the British Isles, Continental Europe, Northern africa, and North America. The derived formula provides an excellent fit to the mountain height data ranked by height.
