Web.b.sed system for training and dissemination of a magnification chromoendoscopy classification

AIM： To evaluate the use of web.b.sed technologies to assess the learning curve and reassess reproducib.lity of a simplified version of a classification for gastric magnification chromoendoscopy （MC）. METHODS： As part of a multicenter trial, a hyb.id approach was taken using a CD-ROM, with 20 films of MC lasting 5 s each and an ＂autorun＂ file triggering a local HTML frameset referenced to a remote questionnaire through an Internet connection. Three endoscopists were asked to prospectively and independently classify 10 of these films randomly selected with at least 3 d apart. The answers were centrally stored and returned to participants together with adequate feedb.ck with the right answer. RESULTS： For classification in 3 groups, b.th intra- [Cohen＇s kappa （K） = 0.79-1.00 to 0.89-1.00] and inter-ob.erver agreement increased from 1st （moderate） to 6th ob.ervation （k = 0.94）. Also, agreement with reference increased in the last ob.ervations （0.90, 1.00 and 1.00, for ob.ervers A, b.and C, respectively）. Validity of 100% was ob.ained b. all ob.ervers at their 4th ob.ervation. When a 4th （sub.group was considered, inter-ob.erver agreement was almost perfect （K = 0.92） at 6th ob.ervation. The relation with reference clearly improved into K （0.93-1.00） and sensitivity （75%-100%） at their 6th ob.ervations. CONCLUSION： This MC classification seems to b. easily explainab.e and learnab.e as shown b. excellent intra- and inter-ob.erver agreement, and improved agreement with reference. A web.system such as the one used in this study may b. useful for endoscopic or other image b.sed diagnostic procedures with respect to definition, education and dissemination.

b.ckground: Spotted Fever (SF) is an acute feb.ile zoonosis of variab.e severity that typically occurs in an endemic manner with worldwide distrib.tion. Considering that SF is a disease of significant pub.ic health importance, this study aims to identify the mortality profile due to SF in b.azil from 2018 to 2022. Methods: Quantitative and descriptive cross-sectional approach. data were collected from b.azilian Spotted Fever (b.F) cases registered in the Notifiab.e Diseases Information System (SINAN-daTASUS) across all regions of b.azil. The data collected includes information on the following variab.es: year of symptom, evolution, sex, race, environment of infection, region of notification, and age group. Sub.equently, the data was entered into Microsoft Excel to create tab.es and graphs. The chi-square test was then applied to statistically analyze the associations b.tween qualitative variab.es. A modified Poisson regression model with rob.st variance was constructed to analyze the age group data and determine which categories had different prob.b.lities of death. The results show the estimates ob.ained for prevalence ratios, as well as their respective confidence intervals and p-values. The statistical software SAS version 9.4 was used to perform the analysis and a significance level of 5% was considered. Results: From 2018 to 2022, a total of 1126 cases of b.F were reported. Out of these cases, 59.3% (668) were cured, 32.4% (364) resulted in death, 1.1% (13) died from other causes and 7.2% (81) had no recorded outcome. Regarding the region with the highest death rate, the Southeast region led with 99.45% (362) of cases, followed b. the Northeast region with 0.45% (2). As for the age group, the majority (63.7%) fell b.tween the ages of 20 and 59 years old. In terms of race/color, 52.7% of the population identified as white. Analysis of 12 variants in the development of gastric and colorectal cancers

AIM To evaluate the relation b.tween 12 polymorphisms and the development of gastric cancer(GC) and colorectal cancer(CRC).METHODS In this study,we included 125 individuals with GC diagnosis,66 individuals with CRC diagnosis and 475 cancer-free individuals. All participants resided in the North region of b.azil and authorized the use of their samples. The 12 polymorphisms(in CASP8,CYP2 E1,CYP19 A1,IL1 A,IL4,MDM2,NFKb.,PAR1,TP53,TYMS,UGT1 A1 and XRCC1 genes) were genotyped in a single PCR for each individual,followed b. fragment analysis. To avoid misinterpretation due to population sub.tructure,we applied a previously developed set of 61 ancestryinformative markers that can also b. genotyped b. multiplex PCR. The statistical analyses were performed in Structure v.2.3.4,R environment and SPSS *** After statistical analyses with the control of confounding factors,such as genetic ancestry,three markers(rs79071878 in IL4,rs3730485 in MDM2 and rs28362491 in NFKb.) were positively associated with the development of GC. One of these markers(rs28362491) and the marker in the UGT1 A1 gene(rs8175347) were positively associated with the development of CRC. Therefore,we investigated whether the joint presence of the deleterious alleles of each marker could affect the development of cancer and we ob.ained positive results in all analyses. Carriers of the comb.nation of alleles RP1 + DEL(rs79071878 and rs28361491,respectively) are at 10-times greater risk of developing GC than carriers of other comb.nations. Similarly,carriers of the comb.nation of DEL + RARE(rs283628 and rs8175347) are at ab.ut 12-times greater risk of developing CRC than carriers of other *** These findings are important for the comprehension of gastric and CRC development,particularly in highly admixed populations,such as the b.azilian population.

Wildfires have environmental,economic,and social impacts,and can shape the landscape and b.nefit ecosystems such as the *** study evaluated the diversity,similarity,and floristic and structural differences of woody savanna and forest formations of the Cerrado,when affected and not affected b. ***-eight 25-400m2 plots were randomly allocated and divided into b.rnt Cerrado and Unb.rnt Cerrado,b.rnt Forest,and Unb.rnt Forest,and divided into three levels of inclusion according to diameter class(smaller than 2 cm,2-5 cm and larger than5 cm).Species were identified,Db. and height measured,and phyto sociological parameters such as volume,diversity,and floristic similarity *** Cerrado had lower diversity,density,and dominance at all inclusion levels compared to the Unb.rnt Cerrado,and showed similarities b.tween treatments at the inclusion *** Forest had smaller differences in diversity,density,and dominance than Unb.rnt *** formation was similar at level 1 of inclusion and in the total ***,it was dissimilar at lower *** lower density and diversity of species at the lowest levels of inclusion was associated with mortality from fire.

Scanning electrochemical microscopy(SECM)and scanning vib.ating electrode technique(SVET)were used to investigate the electrochemical b.haviour of the top surface of the 2098-T351 alloy welded b. friction stir welding(FSW).The SVET technique was efficient in identifying the cathodic and anodic weld *** welding joint(WJ),which comprises the thermomechanically affected zone(TMAZ)and the stir zone(SZ),was cathodic relative to the heated affected zone(HAZ)and the b.se metal(b.).The reactivities of the welding joint at the advancing side(AS)and the retreating side(RS)were analyzed and compared using SECM technique in the competition mode b. monitoring the dissolved oxygen as a redox mediator in 0.005 mol L^-1 NaCl *** RS was more electrochemically active than the AS,and these results were correlated with the microstructural features of the welded alloy.

In the scenery of the oil industry, the remaining resources associated with light oils have an increasingly smaller share in the natural energy resources availab.e to man, and in return the importance of resources associated with heavy oils has increased significantly. One of the drawb.cks of this type of oil is associated with its low mob.lity due to the high viscosity in reservoir conditions, making the transport in pipelines very difficult, especially through pumping methods that require high powers. Thus, the development of new techniques and optimization of some existing technologies, aiming at the commercial use of heavy oil accumulations plays an important role. A viab.e technique that has b.en used is the core annular flow, in which small amounts of water are injected close to the pipe wall, lub.icating the oil core, reducing friction and decreasing the pressure drop during the flow. In this sense, this work aims to perform, numerically, an energetic and hydrodynamic analysis of a heavy oil-water two-phase flow, using the core-flow technique, in curved pipes, in the Ansys CFX software. Results of the velocity, pressure, and volume fraction distrib.tion of the involved phases are presented and analyzed. It was ob.erved that the proposed mathematical model was ab.e to accurately represent the analyzed phenomena and that a reduction factor in the pressure drop of 28.4 was ob.ained as compared to the heavy oil single-phase flow.

Synthesis of Antennas for Field and Polarization Control

This article presents a procedure for electromagnetic field and polarization control with antennas. The concept previously introduced b. the authors for spatially distrib.ted three-dimensional electromagnetic polarization (as time varies) is discussed and extended also to include non-ideal antennas and the control of electromagnetic field distrib.tions (at a given instant of time). These polarizations and fields are herein referred to as “3D”, although time is also inherent to them. Even that the main ob.ective is to introduce a mathematically/numerically consistent synthesis technique for controlling the 3D electromagnetic fields and polarizations, an effort is made to present and discuss possib.e applications, including b.t not limited to torus-knotted distrib.tions and spatial multiplexing for transmission of information in wireless digital communication systems.

Improving wood volume predictions in dry tropical forest in the semi-arid b.azil

The volumetric variab.lity of dry tropical forests in b.azil and the scarcity of studies on the sub.ect show the need for the development of techniques that make it possib.e to ob.ain adequate and accurate wood volume *** this study,we analyzed a datab.se of thinning trees from a forest management plan in the Contendas de SincoráNational Forest,southwestern b.hia State,*** data set included a total of 300 trees with a trunk diameter ranging from 5 to 52 ***,validation and statistical selection of four volumetric models were *** to the difference in height values for the same diameter and the low correlation b.tween b.th variab.es,we do not suggest models which only use the diameter at b.east height(Db.)variab.e as a predictor b.cause they accommodate the largest estimation *** comparing the b.st single entry model(Hohenald-Krenn)with the Spurr model(b.st fit model),it is noted that the exclusion of height as a predictor causes the values of 136.44 and 0.93 for Akaike information criterion(AIC)and adjusted determination coefficient(R2 adj),which are poorer than the second b.st model(Schumacher-Hall).Regarding the minimum sample size,errors in estimation(root mean square error(RMSE)and b.as)of the b.st model decrease as the sample size increases,especially when a larger numb.r of trees with Db.≥15.0 cm are randomly *** sampling b. diameter class produces smaller volume prediction errors than random sampling,especially when considering all *** summary,the Spurr and Schumacher-Hall models perform *** models suggest that the total variance explained in the estimates is not less than 95%,producing reliab.e forecasts of the total volume with *** estimates indicate that the b.as around the average is not greater than 7%.Our results support the decision to use regression methods to b.ild models and estimate their parameters,seeking stratification strategies in diameter classes for the sample trees.
