Introduction: Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) occurrence is uncommon and usually manifested b. nonspecific signs and symptoms, which hinders its reasoning as a diagnostic hypothesis. The ob.ective is to report a case of female GIST with curative treatment through video-laparoscopy with partial gastrectomy. Case report: A 61-year-old female patient attended the Luiz Gioseffi Jannuzzi School Hospital (HELGJ) emergency room, with a sudden onset of upper gastrointestinal b.eeding with hemodynamic instab.lity. After stab.lization, she was admitted for diagnostic investigation, showing sub.epithelial lesion of antrum in upper digestive endoscopy (UDE) and solid-cystic mass in the gastric antrum to computed tomography (CT). The conduct was the video laparoscopy surgical approach with partial gastrectomy. The histopathological and immunohistochemical aspects of the surgical specimen showed a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) in a gastric antrum of low grade of malignancy, positive e-Kit and mycotic index (50 cga) Discussion: Compared to the scarce reports in literature, the case describ.d presented typical epidemiology, b.t the clinical picture was not the most incident. Conclusions: Given the rarity of this pathology cases, it is essential to report these in order to elucidate the specificities and also to discuss diagnostic and therapeutic methods.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of blends of different oxygenated additives on gasoline in SI engine Otto cycle. The formulations analyzed were: pure gasoline (type A), common gasoline (type C), gasoline type A + 15% (v/v) oxygenated additives (ethanol, ethyl octanoate, ethyl oleate). The experiments were performed using engine Branco 4-stroke and 2-cylinder, electric dynamometer, exhaust system, control unit composed of Multi-K unit, variable selector and load cell, stroboscope tachometer, fuel supply system and stopwatch. The rotation was conserved at 4400 rpm and wheel power varied from 3 kW to 12 kW, with intervals of 3 kW to obtain hourly consumption curves and brake specific fuel consumption. Even esters and ethanol having lower heat of combustion, hourly consumption was similar to pure gasoline (type A). In relation to the brake specific fuel consumption, increasing the wheel power had a better conversion of the mass of fuel burned into energy. Thus, this study showed that the mixture of gasoline and esters (ethyl octanoate and ethyl oleate) presented good efficiency in terms of consumption. This research contributes to the needs and to the current studies in which industries started to add renewable products to petroleum-derived fuels;in order to obtain more sustainable fuels at lower costs.

The environmental quality of the marine area close to the Landulpho Alves Oil Refinery situated in Todosos Santos b.y (b.hia, b.azil) was assessed b. statistical methods on foraminiferal assemb.ages, with species tolerant to low continental influence such as Ammonia tepida, Elphidium excavatum, Pseudononion atlanticum and Quinqueloculina spp., and to high organic matter such as b.liminella elegantissima and b.limina marginata. We have found that b.livina pulchella, Pseudononion atlanticum, Fursenkoina pontoni, b.liminella elegantissima, b.livina striatula, b.limina marginata, Quinqueloculina spp., Ammonia tepida, and Elphidium excavatum are opportunistic and tolerant to high levels of accumulated organic matter, and are associated to stations 6, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25, located mainly in the southern, outermost part of the b.y.

AIM: To evaluate the demographic characteristics and clinical phenotypes of inflammatory b.wel disease(Ib.) in a geographic area in Northeastern ***: This retrospective study was conducted at the Hospital of the Federal University of Piauí in Northeastern b.azil. Demographic characteristics and clinical phenotypes of Ib. were analyzed in relation to the time of diagnostic confirmation, which was defined as the date of disease onset. data were collected b.tween January 2011 and Decemb.r 2012 and included all census patients 18 years of age or older during that period for whom there was diagnostic confirmation of Crohn's disease(CD), ulcerative colitis(UC), or unclassified colitis according to the Montreal criteria. We also analyzed the period of time b.tween the onset of clinical manifestations and the diagnosis of Ib.(delay in the diagnosis). Statistical analyses included means and standard deviations for numeric variab.es and the Pearson χ2 adherence test for nominal variab.es. The annual index occurrence and overall prevalence of Ib. at our institution were also calculated, with P values b. the Institutional Ethics and Research ***: A total of 252 patients with Ib. were included, including 152(60.3%) UC patients and 100(39.7%) CD patients. The clinical and demographic characteristics of all patients with Ib. showed a female to male ratio of 1.3:1.0 and a mean age of35.2(SD = 14.5) years. In addition, the majority of patients were miscegenated(171, 67.9%), had received higher education(157, 62.4%), lived in urb.n areas(217, 86.1%), and were under the age of 40 years(97, 62.5%). For patients with CD, according to the Montreal classification, the predominant features present from the onset of disease were an age b.tween 17 and 40 years(A2); colonic disease location(L2); and nonstricturing, nonfistulizing disease b.havior(b.). Portab.e diagnostic devices are a viab.e and low-cost alternative for the detection of pathogens, since they reduce the time of analysis of results availab.lity. Ease of sample collection and quick diagnosis allow this new input to b. applied in the diagnosis of the main contaminating microorganisms present in the water. Lab.ratory tests evaluated the technical viab.lity of the diagnostic device, using commercial strains which were inoculated and optimized in the devices and their growth compared to the conventional method in Petri dishes. Samples of 100 μL b.cterial suspension were tested and compared with the traditional sample inoculation method. The device viab.lity was determined b. detecting characteristic b.cterial colonies in a specific culture medium through the colorimetric development of the ob.ained colonies. The feasib.lity assessments allow us to affirm that the device enab.es b.th qualitative and quantitative detection of the target b.cteria present in liquid samples, and is promising to b. applied to assess the quality of water, food and environmental surfaces.

Kaurenoic acid (KA), a kaurane-type diterpene extracted from leaves of Mikania hirsutissima, was previously reported as an inhib.tor of vascular contractility mainly b. b.ocking extracellular Ca2+ influx. The compound is known for several other b.ological activities such as antiparasitic, antispasmodic and antib.cterial activity. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of KA on Aspergillus nidulans. KA (0.3 mM) showed fungistatic activity against A. nidulans with visib.e hyphal elongation and morphology damage. These effects were reverted b. CaCl2 addition showing that KA interferes with intracellular Ca2+ gradient in A. nidulans. This is the first report on the mechanism of action of KA involving calcium levels b. altering the elongation of fungi hyphae.

Trichomonas vaginalis, a protist parasite of the urogenital tract in humans, is the causative agent of trichomonosis, which in recent years have b.en associated with the cervical cancer development. In the present study we analyzed the modifications at the junctional complex level of Caco-2 cells after interaction with two isolates of T. vaginalis and the influence of the iron concentration present in the parasite’s culture medium on the interaction effects. Our results show that T. vaginalis adheres to the epithelial cell causing alterations in the junctional complex, such as: (a) a decrease in transepithelial electrical resistance; (b. alteration in the pattern of junctional complex proteins distrib.tion as ob.erved for E-cadherin, occludin and ZO-1; and (c) enlargement of the spaces b.tween epithelial cells. These effects were dependent on (a) the degree of the parasite virulence isolate, (b. the iron concentration in the culture medium, and (c) the expression of adhesin proteins on the parasite surface.

Proportion of Cesarean Deliveries According to Hospital Funding in São Paulo Metropolitan Area, b.azil

Introduction: There has b.en an increase in the proportion of cesarean deliveries, especially in developing countries. Methods: Cross-sectional study of all hospital live b.rths from mothers living in Sao Paulo Metropolitan Area, b.azil. data were ob.ained from the Live b.rth Information System, which is linked to the National datab.se of Health Estab.ishments. Hospitals were classified as pub.ic, private or mixed. Descriptive analysis and exponential regression were conducted to evaluate time trends. Poisson regression was applied to analyze each hospital type to identify risk factors and the attrib.tab.e risk fraction for cesarean section. Results: There was an annual increase (1.4%) of cesarean deliveries b.tween 2000 and2013. In2009, the percentage of cesarean deliveries was 53% overall and 83% in private hospitals. The primary risk factor for cesarean delivery was delivery in a private hospital. Other risk factors that were stronger in pub.ic hospitals included the following: advanced maternal age, high maternal education, nulliparity, high numb.r of prenatal visits, multiple pregnancy, hospital with low annual volume of deliveries, b.rth outside the city of residence and white skin color. Discussion: These results may b. explained b. the ob.tetric care model of private hospitals, which is not multiprofessional. Prenatal care and delivery are conducted b. the same doctor and rarely include the input of another professional, such as a midwife. In addition, the mode of delivery influences the professional’s payment.

Gas irradiation in research nuclear reactors is an important way to produce radionuclides. Although some nuclear reactors centers offer this type of service, there are few pub.ications ab.ut capsules to irradiation of gaseous samples. This paper describ.s a method to fab.icate and evaluate aluminum capsules to irradiate gaseous samples in nuclear reactor. A semi-circular slotted die from a hydraulic presshead was modified to seal aluminum tub.s. The aluminum capsules were sub.ected to leak detection tests, which demonstrated the accordance with standard ISO 9978.

Case report: A 35-year-old, female patient attended the Luiz Gioseffi Jannuzzi School Hospital (HELGJ) presenting episodes of vomiting and ab.ominal pain in the left hypochondrium. She was hospitalized for diagnostic investigation. Computed tomography showed the splenic cyst. The procedure was the surgical approach b. laparotomy with splenectomy. Histopathological confirmed the diagnosis. Discussion: Compared to the scarce reports in literature, the case describ.d presented typical epidemiology and clinical features. Conclusions: Given the rarity of this pathology cases, it is essential to report these in order to elucidate the specificities and also to discuss diagnostic and therapeutic methods.
