The effects of the interaction between a gallery lining and surrounding ground are evaluated. The gallery is circular with constant thickness and surrounding ground as geotechnical characteristics is soft one. Two types of ground are successively considered with bulk modulus K = 9,260 kPa and K = 4,630 kPa. The analysis is carried out for a gallery with 3.80 m inner diameter and 25 cm thickness. This under construction is part of the irrigation system of the ＂Los Rios＂ county （Ecuador）. Comprehensive computations in various hypotheses pointed out the significant effects of the interaction. The sectional stresses （M, N） in the gallery lining embedded in soft ground depend mainly of the gallery depth versus ground surface. Contrary, the mechanical characteristics of the surrounding ground resulted to have little influence.

A new Gum-type alloy(Ti–Nb–Zr–Fe–O) in which Fe is used instead of Ta was subjected to a particular thermomechanical processing scheme to assess whether its mechanical characteristics(fine ?-grains with high strength and low modulus) render it suitable as a biomedical implant material. After a homogenization treatment followed by cold-rolling with 50% reduction, the specimens were subjected to one of three different recrystallization treatments at 1073, 1173, and 1273 K. The structural and mechanical properties of all of the treated specimens were analyzed. The mechanical characterization included tensile tests, microhardness determinations, and fractography by scanning electron microscopy. The possible deformation mechanisms were discussed using the Bo – Md diagram. By correlating all of the experimental results, we concluded that the most promising processing variant corresponds to recrystallization at 1073 K, which can provide suitable mechanical characteristics for this type of alloys: high yield and ultimate tensile strengths(1038 and 1083 MPa, respectively), a low modulus of elasticity(62 GPa), and fine crystalline grain size(approximately 50 ?m).

The critically ill polytrauma patient presents with a series of associated pathophysiologies secondary to the traumatic injuries. The most important include systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), sepsis, oxidative stress (OS), metabolic disorders, and finally multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) and death. The poor outcome of these patients is related to the association of the aforementioned pathologies. The nutrition of the critically ill polytrauma patient is a distinct challenge because of the rapid changes in terms of energetic needs associated with hypermetabolism, sepsis, SIRS, and OS. Moreover, it has been proven that inadequate nutrition can prolong the time spent on a mechanical ventilator and the length of stay in an intensive care unit (ICU). A series of mathematical equations can predict the energy expenditure (EE), but they have disadvantages, such as the fact that they cannot predict the EE accurately in the case of patients with hypermetabolism. Indirect calorimetry (IC) is another method used for evaluating and monitoring the energy status of critically ill patients. In this update paper, we present a series of pathophysiological aspects associated with the metabolic disaster affecting the critically ill polytrauma patient. Furthermore, we present different non-invasive monitoring methods that could help the intensive care physician in the adequate management of this type of patient.

The application-specific multiprocessor system-on-chip(MPSoC) architecture is becoming an attractive solution to deal with increasingly complex embedded applications,which require both high performance and flexible programmability. As an effective method for MPSoC development,we present a gradual refinement flow starting from a high-level Simulink model to a synthesizable and executable hardware and software specification. The proposed methodology consists of five different abstract levels:Simulink combined algorithm and architecture model(CAAM),virtual architecture(VA),transactional accurate architecture(TA),virtual prototype(VP) and field-programmable gate array(FPGA) emulation. Experimental results of Motion-JPEG and H.264 show that the proposed gradual refinement flow can generate various MPSoC architectures from an original Simulink model,allowing processor,communication and tasks design space exploration.

The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the use of some antioxidants-α-tocopherol, n-octyl gallate, L-ascorbic acid 6-palmitate and matcha extract (green tea) as inhibitors of grape seeds, walnuts and corn germ oils oxidation. The oxidation was studied in a forced regime during 700 h, by the addition of hydrogen peroxide and Cu2+ ions. The optimal conditions of the accelerated oxidation process in the analysed systems were established. The progress of lipid oxidation was evaluated by measuring the peroxide value (PV) and conjugated dienes and trienes (CD, CT). A series of secondary products of the lipid oxidation were identified: hexanal, octanal and hydroxy-nonadienal. The intensity of the formation of these compounds during oxidation was monitored. The results of this study showed that the oil samples with the addition of antioxidants showed considerably lower oxidation values compared to the control sample. More effective was the action of L-ascorbic acid 6-palmitate and n-octyl gallate, the optimum concentration was 0.1%. An inhibitory effect of the oxidation process was noted for α-tocopherol and matcha extract, the optimal addition concentration was 1%.

The paper describes some properties of new quaternized polysulfones obtained by quaternization of chloromethylated polysulfone with different tertiary amines - N,N-dimethylethylamine and N,N-dimethyloctylamine. Hydrophilic/hydrophobic properties, morphological aspects and compatibility with red blood cells and platelets are affected by the alkyl radicals and by history of the formed films. The results obtained are useful in biomedical applications, including evaluation of bacterial adhesion to the surfaces, or utilization of modified polysulfones as semipermeable membranes.

目的进一步确证胚胎植入过程中,在绒毛膜滋养细胞作用前后,IL-15基因在子宫内膜基质细胞中的表达的变化。方法建立早期妊娠期绒毛膜滋养细胞与子宫内膜基质细胞的共培养模式,24 h后分离这两种细胞,获得IL-15基因,运用PCR技术扩增后电泳凝胶经激光扫描显影和数字分析,定量地体现子宫内膜基质细胞在胚胎种植前后IL-15基因表达的差别,并进行统计学分析。结果绒毛膜滋养细胞作用前后,IL-15在子宫内膜基质细胞中的PCR显影差异有统计学意义（P〈0.05）。结论胚胎种植期,在绒毛膜滋养细胞的作用下,子宫内膜基质细胞中IL-15的基因表达显著增强,为研究不孕等生殖疾病发生机制提供依据。
