AIM:To assess the efficacy and safety of non-penetrating deep sclerectomy(nPDs)with uveoscleral implant plus subconjunctival and intrascleral collagen matrix overcoming the superficial scleral flap lips(modified deep sclerectomy technique,Ds)and minimal use of mitomycin C in glaucoma ***:A retrospective review of 47 consecutive glaucoma patients who underwent nPDs with Ds between January 2017 and May ***-corrected visual acuity,intraocular pressure(IOP),post-operative need for glaucoma medications,visual field mean deviation(MD),re-interventions,needling revisions and laser goniopuncture were *** success was defined as IOP≤18 mm Hg without topical *** success was defined as the same criteria but with the addition of any antihypertensive *** over 18 mm Hg on two consecutive followup visits was considered as a ***:Fifty-two eyes of 47 patients were *** preoperative IOP was 25.37±6.47 mm Hg,and decreased to 15.04±4.73 at 12mo and 12.21±4.1 at 24mo(all Pnt for topical medications dropped from a mean of 3.06±0.25 per patient to 0.51±0.99 and 1.11±1.23 respectively after 12 and 24mo(all Pno medications were required in 45.5%of patients after *** and absolute success rate at 24mo were 85.5%±5%and 48.5%±7.4%,***:Ds is a safe and effective nonpenetrating glaucoma surgery *** aims to retain the patency of all pathways created for aqueous humor drainage:the intrascleral bleb,the supraciliary space and the open communication between intrascleral and subconjunctival compartments.

Investigating stability Properties for Transition Metal Carbonate Precursors Using Universal Cluster Expansion Technique(UnCLE)as Cathodes for Li-Ion Batteries

The universal cluster expansion technique was used in this study to determine the binary phase diagrams for the transition metal carbonate precursors MCO3(M:Mn,ni,Co).The use of mixed cathode materials in lithium-ion batteries such as nMC(ni,Mn and Co)formulations,is a strategic approach to optimize performance,enhance safety and address cost and environmental considerations in the rapidly evolving field of energy *** study focuses on the cost issue related to lithium ion batteries by investigating the manganese rich nMC since manganese is more abundant and *** doped MnCO3 with nickel and doped MnCO3 with cobalt then ran cluster expansion calculations to generate binary *** binary phase diagrams generated indicated that doping MnCO3 with nickel favours the Mn-rich side,while doping MnCO3 with cobalt favours 50%Mn-rich and 50%*** further extracted the most stable structures from both binary diagrams and determined their electronic,mechanical and vibrational stabilities using DFT(density functional theory)calculations within the LDA(local gradient approximation)with Hubbard parameter(U).The electronic properties revealed that both materials are semiconductors due to their narrow energy band gap obtained while the mechanical properties showed that structures are mechanically stable since their necessary conditions for trigonal and triclinic systems were satisfied.

Risk associated with toxic blooms of marine phytoplankton functional groups on Artemia franciscana

Objective:To study mortality of copepod Artemia franciscana against the occurrence of harmful marine algae and possible toxicological changes exhibited by binary and tertiary combinations of these harmful algae ***:Tweenty four hours acute toxicity assays were performed with selected concentrations of Alexandrium minutum,Prorocentrum lima and nitzschia n1c1 living ***,the results were analyzed using the median-effect/combination index(CI)-isobologram equation to assess possible changes in the toxic effect induced by phytoplankton functional ***:Biotoxin equivalent values obtained by immunodetection were(2.12±0.10),(8.60±1.30)and(4.32±1.67)pg/cell for saxitoxin,okadaic acid and domoic acid,*** 24-h LC_(50) values estimated to saxitoxin and okadaic acid equivalents were 4.06 and 6.27μg/L,significantly below the value obtained for nitzschia n1c1,which was established at 467.33μg/*** analysis applied on phytoplankton assemblages showed that both ternary mixture as the binary combinations exhibited antagonic action on toxic effects in Artemia nauplii,which were significantly lower than the toxic effect exhibited by each species ***:These results show that,although these harmful algae represent a serious risk to estuarine zooplankton community,the presence of phytoplankton functional groups within the same bloom can reduce the potential risk compared to the expected risk when each of the phytoplankton groups are evaluated individually.

The effect of electric vehicle energy storage on the transition to renewable energy

The most viable path to alleviate the Global Climate Change is the substitution of fossil fuel power plants for electricity generation with renewable energy *** substitution requires the development of very large energy storage capacity,with the inherent thermodynamic irreversibility of the storage-recovery ***,the world experiences a significant growth in the numbers of electric vehicles with large batteries.A fleet of electric vehicles is equivalent to an efficient storage capacity system to supplement the energy storage system of the electricity *** based on the hourly demand-supply data of ERCOT,a very large electricity grid,show that a fleet of electric vehicles cannot provide all the needed capacity and the remaining capacity must be met by *** though the storage capacity of the batteries is close to 1–2%of the needed storage capacity of the grid,the superior round-trip storage efficiency of batteries reduces the energy dissipation associated with the storage and recovery processes by up to 38%and the total hydrogen storage capacity by up to 50%.The study also shows that anticipated improvements in the round-trip efficiencies of batteries are almost three times more effective than improvements in hydrogen storage systems.

"synthetic"allopolyploids recreated by interspecific hybridization play an important role in providing novel genomic variation for crop *** synthetic allopolyploids often undergo rapid genomic structural variation(sV).However,how such sV arises,is inherited and fixed,and how it affects important traits,has rarely been comprehensively and quantitively studied in advanced generation synthetic lines.A better understanding of these processes will aid breeders in knowing how to best utilize synthetic allopolyploids in breeding ***,we analyzed three genetic mapping populations(735 DH lines)derived from crosses between advanced synthetic and conventional Brassica napus(rapeseed)lines,using whole-genome sequencing to determine genome *** observed high tolerance of large structural variants,particularly toward the telomeres,and preferential selection for balanced homoeologous exchanges(duplication/deletion events between the A and C genomes resulting in retention of gene/chromosome dosage between homoeologous chromosome pairs),including stable events involving whole chromosomes("pseudoeuploidy").Given the experimental design(all three populations shared a common parent),we were able to observe that parental sV was regularly inherited,showed genetic hitchhiking effects on segregation,and was one of the major factors inducing adjacent novel and larger ***,novel sV occurred at low frequencies with no significant impacts on observed fertility and yield-related traits in the advanced generation synthetic ***,incorporating genome-wide sV in linkage mapping explained significantly more genetic variance for *** results provide a framework for detecting and understanding the occurrence and inheritance of genomic sV in breeding programs,and support the use of synthetic parents as an important source of novel trait variation.
