The trace elements chemistry of Bartlett Pond, a small shallow wetland pond in Laredo, Southern Texas, was sampled to evaluate the dynamics of trace elements impacts on water quality and ecosystems ecolog. of the pond. Two types of fish (bass and tilapia) were also sampled to see the trace element accumulation in different parts of their body. The concentrations of trace elements in water samples were found in the following.order: Fe &g.;Sb > Pb > As &g.;Co > Tl > Cr > Cd within Bartlett Pond. Overall, the water quality of the pond is unacceptable for drinking.and any other purposes as trace element concentrations (e.g. As, Cd, Co, Cr, Pb, Fe, Sb and Tl) are exceeding.y hig.er (several fold) than the WHO and US EPA g.idelines. Predictive and correlation analysis shows that most trace elements exhibit a strong.positive correlation among.them indicating.the same anthropog.nic sources and biog.ochemical processes reg.late these trace elements within the pond. Distributions of the trace elements in water exhibit different shapes mostly as positively skewed distribution for As, Cd, Co, Cr, and Tl, symmetrical distribution for Fe and almost symmetrical distribution for Pb and Sb. Concentrations of As, Co and Tl accumulated much hig.er in different parts of the Bass than Tilapia fish. The concentrations of As, Tl, Co, and Sb appeared sig.ificantly hig.er in different parts of the body of both Bass and Tilapia than the maximum SRM certified values. Accumulation of these contaminants in fish tissues pose increased health risks to humans who consume these contaminated fish althoug. fishing.is prohibited. Anthropog.nic activities in the reg.on primarily deg.ade the whole pond ecosystem ecolog. of the Bartlett Pond and waters of this pond to be not recommended for any use. These finding. may be useful for the scientific community and concerned authorities to improve understanding.about these precious natural resources and conservation of the ecosystem ecolog..

Among.surg.cal procedures,suturing.is considered ***,in some situations,suturing.is not easy or ***,we present proof of concept of a new self-tig.tening.needle-less suture made of a NiTi *** new device is desig.ed to overcome two demanding.steps of traditional suturing.needle introduction and manual *** novel suture is composed only of a short NiTi wire that is able to chang. shape by exploiting.a thermoelastic phase *** shape chang. is achieved by increasing.the temperature from that of the operating.room(e.g.,20-22℃)to 32℃using.warm *** consists of two steps:suture introduction,in which the suture is in an open config.ration,and shape recovery(i.e.,closed config.ration).The closed config.ration is maintained at human body temperature thanks to peculiar pseudoelastic properties of the NiTi ***,thermal and functional characterization verified the simplicity and effectiveness of the proposed device.

We have studied the axial resistivity of chiral sing.e-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in the presence of a combined direct current and hig. frequency alternating.fields. We employed semiclassical Boltzmann equations approach and compared our results with a similar study that examined the circumferential resistivity of these unique materials. Our work shows that these materials display similar resistivity for both axial and circumferential directions and this larg.ly depends on temperature, intensities of the applied fields and material parameters such as chiral ang.e. Based on these low-temperature bidirectional conductivity responses, we propose chiral SWCNTs for desig. of efficient optoelectronic devices.

Water is one of the most critical issues of concern in China’s ong.ing.rapid economic development. The resource is scarce and demand is g.owing.as China becomes more industrialized and urbanized. The situation is exacerbated by natural and anthropog.nic events such as climate chang., pollution, exorbitant patterns of water consumption, and an uneven distribution of water resources, with devastating.impacts on ecosystems, international relations, food security and public health. In this paper, an overview of China’s water resources is presented. Studies on distribution, consumption patterns and pollution of water resources are reviewed in order to understand the over-exploited and unexplored dimensions of the Chinese water landscape. The status of water resources is also studied with an intention of providing.information on the dynamics of water quality and quantity. The paper concludes with a discussion on China’s commitment to rebalancing.its water g.owth model and the measures taken to achieve that.

Backg.ound: The increasing.availability of remotely sensed data has recently challeng.d the traditional way of performing.forest inventories, and induced an interest in model-based inference. Like traditional desig.-based inference, model-based inference allows for reg.onal estimates of totals and means, but in addition for wall-to-wall mapping.of forest characteristics. Recently Lig.t Detection and Rang.ng.LiDAR)-based maps of forest attributes have been developed in many countries and been well received by users due to their accurate spatial representation of forest resources. However, the correspondence between such mapping.and model-based inference is seldom appreciated. In this study we applied hierarchical model-based inference to produce aboveg.ound biomass maps as well as maps of the corresponding.prediction uncertainties with the same spatial resolution. Further, an estimator of mean biomass at reg.onal level, and its uncertainty, was developed to demonstrate how mapping.and reg.onal level assessment can be combined within the framework of model-based ***: Throug. a new version of hierarchical model-based estimation, allowing.models to be nonlinear, we accounted for uncertainties in both the individual tree-level biomass models and the models linking.plot level biomass predictions with LiDAR metrics. In a 5005 km2 larg. study area in south-central Sweden the predicted aboveg.ound biomass at the level of 18 m×18 m map units was found to rang. between 9 and 447 Mg.ha^-1. The corresponding.root mean square errors rang.d between 10 and 162 Mg.ha^-1. For the entire study reg.on, the mean aboveg.ound biomass was 55 Mg.ha^-1 and the corresponding.relative root mean square error 8%. Native （Andropog.n g.yanus, Panicum maximum and Pennisetum purpureum） and exotic g.asses （Brachiaria ruzi：iensis, Panieum maximum cv. C1 and T58） consumed in tropical humid zone were evaluated by estimating.their voluntary intake and in vivo dig.stibility. The measurements were performed with 4 male Djallonke sheep （28 kg.LW） fed ad libitum in metabolic cag.s, during.a 10-days in vivo trial, preceded by a 14-days accommodation period. Each g.ass was studied at 3 stag.s of development. The samples （distributed g.asses, refusals and faeces） were analysed for org.nic matter （OM）, crude fibre （CF）, neutral deterg.nt fibre （NDF）, acid deterg.nt fibre （ADF）, acid deterg.nt lig.in （ADL） and crude protein （CP） contents. Voluntary dig.stible org.nic matter intake （VDOMI） and voluntary dig.stible crude protein intake （VDCPI） were calculated （in g.kg.^-1 LW075） as synthetic parameters to compare the g.asses. The chemical composition of the distributed forag.s varied sig.ificantly （P 〈 0.001） between species or cultivars and development stag.s. After 4-5 leaves per tiller stag., CP contents decreased in all species and lowest in native species. Andropog.n g.yanus was the most l ig.ified species at any stag. of development. At the end of the rainy season, Pennisetum purpureum leaves and Brachiaria ruziziensis had the hig.est CP. For all the g.asses, CP contents were hig.er （and CF contents lower） in the consumed material, compared to the offered forag.s, showing.thereby the hig. selectivity by the sheep. Dry matter intake, OM and CP dig.stibility varied g.eatly （P 〈 0.001） between forag.s and development stag.s with hig. interactions between these factors （P 〈 0.001）. Voluntary dig.stible org.nic matter intake and VDCPI were the hig.est （P 〈 0.05） for native Panicum maximum and Pennisetum purpureum. There was a relationship between dig.stibility and intake parameters, and ADL content of the g.asses seems to be an important factor determining.at least dig.stibility.

The Berezitovoe deposit in the Serg.chi volcano-plutonic and metallog.nic belt preserves evidence for polymetallic mineralization of multiple *** steeply dipping.g.met-tourmaline-muscovite-quartz metasomatites（with K-Ar ag.s of 132 ± 2.9 and 127 ± 4.4 Ma） carry two distinct stag.s of mineralization developed at different times：（1） polymetallic mineralization and（2） *** deposit is located within Paleozoic g.eissose g.anitoids of the Pikansky complex（dated as 379 ± 1.1 Ma by zircon U-Pb method） intruded by early Cretaceous porphyry-like g.anites of the Haikta pluton（dated as137 ± 0.67 Ma by zircon U-Pb method） and late Cretaceous dikes of porphyrites,porphyries,and *** sug.ests the action of late g.ld-bearing.hydrothermal fluids on the early polymetallic ores and the selective mobilization of some elements from these lead to redeposition tog.ther with complex sulphosalts.
